Garrett" <susanmgarrett@e.......> Subject: Fan fiction links added to Fanhistory.com I've created all of the articles from the fan fiction awards list on Fanhistory.com and placed each story in it's own article. http://www.fanhistory.com/index.php/Category:Forever_Knight_fan_fiction Authors, if you'd like to go up there and add links to your stories as to where they're archived and maybe a one-line summary, that would be great. And anyone else who wants to add their own fan fiction, please feel free. Greer Watson is doing a faboo job adding her stuff and Bless Abby! for taking on the episodes. Someone need to add the VS4 episodes. It's turning into a tremendous site. We really do need more convention articles (list the convention and where and when it was held) and events. And Fk stories, of course. Regards, Susan M. Garrett susanmgarrett@e....... "Friends help you move. I'll have to see if > I can figure out where my old Canadian tapes have gotten to. :-)<< That would be a great favor to the fandom! I would follow your progress eagerly. But I'm afraid it might even take three TVs this time: US cut, Canadian cut and the DVDs. Four if we can circulate the first-run German cut. (Is it lucky or unlucky that only first season comes in quite so many flavors?) When the first-season DVDs came out, I checked "Last Act" to reassure myself that no footage was missing, even though the run-times clearly indicated the first-run Canadian cuts. I picked "Last Act" because it's peculiar in having some footage that aired only in the US as well as some that aired only in Canada (and, besides, it's so good! ~g~). At a friend's home in '97 -- traveling far for a con -- I saw a fan-vid that used footage of Erica's ghost in the Caddie, footage I had never before seen. When I got home, almost the first thing I did was post to the list in all excited curiosity. In a few days of back and forth, we established that I wasn't the only one who hadn't seen that footage, but many people had seen it, and apparently it had aired in the US but not in most Canadian broadcasts. That thread wandered into other notorious missing bits, like the scene in "False Witness" present-day in which Janette learns Nick killed Lacroix (not broadcast in the US), but Erica's ghost in the Caddie stayed the ultimate benchmark for me, personally. I should have checked more episodes, obviously. :-) Why, why, why would anyone cut Nick and Lacroix's exchange about souls from the flashbacks of "False Witness"? Madness! Golly, but I love first season. :-) I rewatched "Fatal Mistake" recently, and kept thinking that while it was perhaps the least admired episode of first season, and surely suffers two painful script burbles as well as arguably one of the worst necks-of-the-week ever, it is nevertheless smart, well-constructed and satisfying. I'm first and foremost an UFfer, but I also adore Immortal Beloved and N&N stories. I like Tracy and Vachon stories, I adore Schanke, and I also get off on some Vachon/Nick....Really, I just love a good story, soooo...could you guys suggest some of your favorite FK fic? Nick's my hero, so while I love to see him get bashed in some respects, I don't really like a story that character bashs him. What I'd really like are some stories that explore the relationship dynamics, not so much romance (N&N has a tendency to get cloying if not in good hands) but how the characters interact and how they rely on or influence each other. I'd also like to read a good story (doesn't have to be slash) where LaCroix has to really help or take care of Nick WITHOUT Nick being reduced to childish or infantile behaviour. I think Nancy Kaminski's stories are the top, along with Dorothy Elggren -- these are the 1st that come to mind as Greats. I also think there was a really good author who's name started with an "O" -- does anyone have any idea who this might be?? Ophelia?? I can't remember! And I'm sure I'm doing a diservice to other great authors I used to love by not naming them, but it's been a while since I read FK fic and that's why I'm asking for your help! :o) Portia PS. Are there any FK Storyfinder groups like there are for other fandoms? ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 30 Jun 2008 16:24:21 -0400 From: Lisa McDavid <mclisa@m.......> Subject: Re: Canadian Cuts Mel asks: > You mean you don't like Alexandra the Dingbat Barmaid? :)= I've always > wondered, while Alexandra is a common name now in Europe, America, Canada, > Australia, etc., In those days wasn't it strictly a Slavic or Greek name? > But I could be wrong. I hated Alexabdra from the first, and in fact I'm the one who nicknamed her the Vampire Dingbat. :) Alexandra was in use as a name, in that form, in Roman times. There are several early Roman martyr saints of that name. It was very rare in English until Princess Alexandra of Denmark married the future King Edward the VII in 1861. I'm at work and my copy of the Oxford Dctionary of English Chistian Names, still the standard source, is at home. At the time I thought this was an unlikely name for a barmaid in that century.
