Realistically...it was because the show was "Forever Knight" not "The Darkness of Ducharme". Someone said to me once that it was Nick's inherent goodness that attracked LaCroix. From his evil side, maybe he hoped to corrupt it, for his good side, maybe he envied it. Leaving reality aside and stepping into the world of the show....would it make sense (given LaCroix's cultural history) that he would favor any son over a daughter simply on the basis of gender?? Other than it was Nick's show not Janette's. I wish LC's relationship with Janette had been explored further though. Being a Roman General, he was the head of his family, the Pater Familias. Sons counted, daughters by and large didn't. It's the old patrilineal thing. I have always found it "odd" that LaCroix has only two "acknowledged" children . . . . Yes, there have been others, but they are darn near vampire equivalents of the "neck 'o the week". You never hear or see them again after the particular episode that they are part of. There are lots of reasons why we don't hear of others: they didn't make the transition successfully, they died young, the show's budget couldn't afford any other regulars . . . . They didn't have to show others, but they could have mentioned them. Clearly no one would write a series of novels without some justification for these enormous spans of time that LaCroix spent alone...or the complete indifference he seems to have toward his "children" aside Nick and Janette. It could have been a fun episode where several of LaCroix's other children get together to take Nick out because of their jealosy. --WD Phoenix ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Jun 2008 22:57:24 -0500 From: eowyn23@j....... I'm not sure I've heard of that > faction before > Thanks The MadNatters were a group of folks who were devoted Natalie fans but not part of the NatPack; the majority of us claimed another faction as our "first loyalty," as it were. We got our start as a email loop, though quite a few of us also met on IRC almost every night, especially when episodes were being broadcast, just to yammer. (This was, of course, WAY before the days when AIM--at the time the only IM client of note--was available to anyone other than AOL users.) Anyone was welcome to join the loop or the chats. The MadNat mailing list has long since gone into a deep and probably irrevocable sleep, but since I'm still a staunch Natalie fan (she and Vachon pretty much tie for my favorite character, depending on my mood), I keep the designation in my .sig file. -- -------------- Stephanie Babbitt (sbabbitt@b.......), Atlanta, GA Vaquera (Because I Can), MadNatter, N&NPacker Nobody Dies.
