While I don't know a lot of the specifics about Cadillacs of that era there
is a pretty good chance that 1962's did not have seat belts in the back seat,
or maybe only 2 sets. I learned to drive in the mid 1980's on my Dad's 1967
Lincoln Continental convertible and it did have three sets of seatbelts in the
back seat. The middle set of belts had a narrower space between them but the
webbing was the same length as the other sets so the person seated in the middle,
if they were slim enough, could be belted in and still lean forward as Natalie is.
Oh, and I suppose it should be said that cars that era had lap belts only.
Shoulder restraints came into existence years later. There is also a different
mentality driving and riding in a car like that. For one thing they are very
bottom heavy, and with all due respect to the TV stuntmen of the world, it is
very hard to tip or flip a car like that. The biggest threat would be getting
ejected but with Nick's super fast reflexes and ability to fly he could probably
catch her mid air before she slammed into anything.

Hi All,
The Caddy Nick drove in the show was called the Hero Car. It was a 1961
Series 62 Conv. At the time seat belts were an option in all cars. When I
purchased the Caddy, the first thing my husband did was install seat belts.
And we put in the 92 inch belts as they get fasten to the floor behind the
driver's seat. We also put belts in the back seat. I also have a 1962 Olds
Starfire which did not come with seat belts. I also put 4 in this car.
FYI.........there were 4 cars used in the show. 1. The Hero CAddy, 1961.
2. the stun car a 1962. You see this car in 'fast' mode in the show.
3. the wreck car, a 1961 which was used in Dark Knight were Schanke ran it
into the fire pump.
4. A studio car, a 1962 in which you see Nick, Nat, and Schanke riding in.
You'll know this car as you can not see thru the plastic back window and is
always seen with her top up.

future and would like a ride in THE CADDY, just email me when you'll
be down and I'll do my best to accommodate you.

American cars in 1962 did not have seat belts. I remember then well.
Not being old enough to drive, I was a frequent passenger in the back
seats of cars of that vintage. It's possible that belts were
available as an option but I never knew anyone who had them until at
least 5 years later. My father was in the auto insurance business
and had us wearing seat belts long before most people were aware of
them so if they'd existed in 1962, I'd have been wearing one. :)
