I just had what should be a "does not compute" image
pop into my head. Vampire croquet. But for some
reason, I can actually picture it. LaCroix, Nick and
Janette, sometime in the late 19th century, having a
lovely civilized game of croquet on the dark grounds
of an English manor house. It's bizarre. It's
positively surreal. But I can see it.

Wait - that's not canon. That's fanfic. ;)

Check out Nancy Kaminski's "Sticky Wickets". Okay, so it's not 19th century -
but it has our trio of vampires and croquet.

Oh that's fun! I'd never read that before! Thanks
for pointing that out. And great job, Nancy!

Hee hee!

1) this is an interesting analogy they've evolved to parallel
Nick/LaCroix with a crime-boss and his great-grand-son.

2) anyone else notice that Don Constantine's inner circle includes a
woman?

3) interesting way to travel - packed in a shipping crate. Kind of makes
hash of the image of vampires being members of the jet-set.
Hard to think of LaCroix or Janette traveling like this, I must admit.

4)"be careful, I do tend to take things literally." Got to love
LaCroix's sense of humor.

Civilized? Not the way my great grandfather played. From what I've heard, he
spent as much if not more time knocking other players' balls into the next
neighborhood than he did sending his ball through the hoops. I see LC
playing that way, although more accidenly-seeming. (Did I just knock your
ball into that muddy stream? *So* sorry, Nicholas.) Oh, and internally
snickering as Nick gets more and more frustrated.

Part two of Civilized? is how I set up courses. Not only do I put hoops
parallel to each other, but I'll put hoop #3 in front of hoop #2, set one
hoop sideways on the edge of a hill...

Croquet can be *nasty*.
