That's a plot possibility I wish FK had explored a bit more. Not just with the baroness and others like her who wanted to be brought across in order to become immortal, but the twist of a greedy mortal who'd want to exploit the "vampire gene" scientifically, possibly to isolate it, study it and figure out how to live forever without all the annoying vampire side effects. (!) Nick might actually have gone along with that, as it might have provided him with a cure. Anyone else here ancient enough to remember a 1970 tv series called "The Immortal" that used this premise? (The hero had a super-rare blood type that made him immortal, and the series bad guy was a billionaire who pursued him all over the globe 'cause he wanted to make him into the aforementioned lab rat.) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 10 Mar 2008 23:29:54 EDT From: KnghtWtch@a....... I sooo wish it had aired somewhere other than Lifetime; it might have had a chance aired on a different network. I loved the characters and plots, the relationships, the other-worldliness, and the interesting take on vampires. I think I also loved it b/c of its reflections of FK: Toronto, Cops, Vampires, and Christina Cox, who was excellent both as Victoria Nelson and the unforgettable Joan D'Arc in the FK ep "For I Have Sinned." Most TV, anymore, I end up waiting to watch when/if it comes out on DVD at NetFlix, but Blood Ties, New Amsterdam, and SGA are the few shows I actually bother(ed) to catch as aired on TV. Sigh; seems like if it's not tawdry, terrible, or a Reality Show (which is all that and more), television is no longer willing to invest in the type of shows that earn my devotion. I really doubt FK, QL, Highlander, or many of the others that have kept my affection years after they've gone off the air would have made it through even half a season in today's television climate. Most definitely! And there's still a chance it could be back. The producers are "cautiously optimistic." > Toronto, Cops, Vampires, and Christina Cox, who > was excellent both as Victoria Nelson and the > unforgettable Joan D'Arc in the FK ep "For I > Have Sinned." That Joan of Arc flashback was indeed memorable. And, IIRC, Christina Cox also showed up in a second episode as the traffic cop in Close Call. > I really doubt FK, QL, Highlander, or many of the > others that have kept my affection years after > they've gone off the air would have made it through > even half a season in today's television climate. I have to agree with that observation. In retrospect, it seems that FK may have been a little ahead of its time, given the resurgent interest in vampires and the supernatural that seems to be occurring; on the other hand, networks these days are giving new shows precious little time to catch on, thus condemning many good shows that need a little more time to find their audience. There have been quite a few successful shows that took most of a season to catch on, something that doesn't seem to happen today. The reality shows you lamented are fast and cheap to produce, so, from a purely financial standpoint, the networks love them. The recent writer's strike also insured that we'll likely see even more of them in the near future -- Ugh! I really HATE reality shows! Makes me appreciate FK all the more! (back to lurking) :) Boomer ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Mar 2008 14:34:22 -0400 From: "Phillips, Tim" <Tim.Phillips@s.......> Subject: Episode Discussion: Undue Process 1) talk about an opening that hooks you...right in the stomach. Very nicely done. Dramatic and emotional without going too far with it. 2)it was nice that they gave Schanke the line about complaining that the mayor's office could have called and told Natalie that she was off the case before she went to the murder scene of her god-daughter...but I do find it "unrealistic" (it disturbs my belief in the reality of this show about Canadian vampires you see) that Cohen wouldn't have arranged herself to have Natalie removed from a case she so obviously couldn't perform her offical duties for due to conflict of interest. 3) Schanke keeps seeing Nick do things like beat a car traveling 4 blocks..and doesn't really question what his own eyes are showing him. To think that some folks call Nick "the brick". I'm just glad that they finally let Schanke put the pieces together for real that one time in an upcoming episode. 4)when Natalie is burning Gault's wanted fliers, it is pretty obvious they are at her apartment (it sure ain't the Loft). There is an abstract painting on the wall behind Nick/Nat. It looks sorta like something Nick might have painted. Nice to think that it is one of his works that he gave Natalie as a gift. 5) just me. I would have omitted the final image of the tombstone once they had decided to make Cynthia's character Natalie's goddaughter instead of her niece. The scene of Natalie and Nick in the car was strong enough. It didn't need the now mis-engraved stone. She would know that she was too close to the situation to deal with it; and that such removal would have been the usual procedures for the department anyway. A question: who does Natalie report to? Is the Captain her 'boss'? Sometimes it seems that way, but I would think there would be a separate chain of command for the Coroner's office. On the other hand, Natalie never seems to have some other person to report to.
