The way Nick handled these tings, no one would ever
know that the funding came from him. It's possible
that the de Brabant Foundation picked up the cost
and nobody ever told us. ;-)

Apparently GWD recently guest starred in an episode of Murdoch Mysteries which
has been described as a 19th century C.S.I. It's the story of a detective that
uses then radical forensic techniques to solve some of Toronto's most gruesome
 murders.

Imdb has him credited as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle of all crazy things. I do
believe Nick briefly crossed paths with Doyle in season 3's 'Blind Faith'. Now
that's he's played Nick and Doyle does that mean that he saves himself from possible
death? As I'm sure most of you will recall Nick warns Doyle not pursue the
 newly vampiric Raleigh?

Plus how great is it that GWD is back in period clothes, even if it is for a
guest stint. He really did carry himself beautifully in all the FK flashback
 sequences.

It was obviouslly meant to show that Raleigh was the inspiration
fot the Hound of the Baskervilles.

1) I like how they pick this situation up in the middle. Nick is
already undercover in the cult and the story is underway.

2) exactly how effective would a vampire be (IE, Thomas...but it could
be Nick) on an archeological dig in the middle of the desert???

3) interesting to see that Natalie is worried about Nick. She may be
the only person in Toronoto that won't really worry about Nick's
body...but would worry deeply about his mind.

4)scene between Schanke and Natalie in the morgue.
"Nick Knight Of the living dead."

"He was like a zombie or something"
"Close"

5) Nice scene between Natalie and Janette.
"He is the wolf, they are... poodles"...now that is an interesting image
for you.

6)LaCroix in the garb of a Bedouin...I had a flash of LaCroix as a
Freman from the Dune books. He'd make a formidable Naib. And when you
think of the subterranean-by-day life described for the desert
tribes....you could see a vampire sietch being at least feasible for the
purposes of fan fiction.

It is a definite change over the normal formula of "mysterious murder
occurs, roll opening credits, open on crime scene". I wish they could
have shaken things up more often like this. The in media res approach
works really well for this story.

Brings up the interesting question of if the spice could be
transferred to a vampire if they drank from someone who had ingested
it, and how much saturation would be required for a vampire to notice.
I know it's a common trope in fanfic for vampires to pick up things
like alcohol or drugs by drinking the blood of someone with that in
their body, but is there any canonical basis for that? I can't recall
if we've ever seen that happen.

For some reason the opening struck me funny: all these
people sitting around this big glowing white beach ball,
while the leader pontificates on whatever. I suppose if
you were a cult member that this would be meaningful,
but I keep thinking that these actors are who were hired
to sit there and watch a big glowing beach ball. I'm not
sure I could keep a straight face, although a mantra of
"I'm getting paid for this, I'm getting paid for this" would
probably help.

I also thought it rather interesting to see the blank sort
of expression on GWD's face as he walked around
inside the headquarters. If I didn't know he was in a
TV set, I think I would have believed that he'd been
taken in, and all this from a blank look in his eyes.

He also walked differently. It added to whatever it
was that characterized him as "under the spell" of
the cult.

Also: Weird, that's b-a-u, business as usual, for him.

Sometimes Janette's outfits are too effective.
She looked gorgeous in this one. I forget, did
Natalie say anything first half of the scene?
Thank goodness for the rewind button.

The closinng sequence in the loft:

Schanke has found out that Nick has over a milion
in his bank account and asks Nick to explain that.
Nick's assertion that the bank arranged to fit his cover
story is o.k., but the business about the bank just
witching something from his savings account to his
checking account is absurd, and Schanke buys this?
It's not o.k. to have a milion in his checking account
but it is o.k. for it to be in his savings?

No wonder Natalie wants to knnow how Nick would
explain to Schanke about "non-registering" on the blood
pressure guage. I'll bet it would have been a doozy
-- or maybe he'd just have wammied Schank.

In any case, what's a Toronto cop doing with over
a million in either account?

Isn't Nick being a bit indiscreet here?

Possible spoilers:

Towards the end of the show when Nick is
talking to the guilty party. Is he whammying
the person or sincerely talking the perp down.

Usually an echo effect is added to the voice
if whammying is taking place. That didn't
seem to be the case here. Even so, Nick's
negotiation prowess impressed even the
cult's leader.

The Cult's headquarters. Makes you think
that Toronto only has one high rise building.
It's always the same picture of this building
for the establishing shot. How many episodes
was it used?

- - - - -

The costuming department is amazing.

Janette's outfit is one of her best.

Captainn Cohen always looks so nice and yet
so professional at the same time.

LaCroix's Bedoin outfit looks very similar to
that which he wore in "Near Death"

- - - - -

LaCroix's bet with Thomas. That's just cruel.
If I were Nick, Thomas would be permanently
of my Christmas list.

The impression I got from that was that Schanke didn't buy it at all,
and assumed Nick was pulling his leg. His expression at that point
smacked of a lot of 'yeah right' to me.

> Isn't Nick being a bit indiscreet here?

Hence Natalie chiding him about it. Nick obviously knew Schanke
wouldn't believe him, so he teased him about it. He underestimates
Schanke as a detective, I think, which comes back to bite him in the
butt during Close Call.

I *finally* got Comcast CBC up and running and
managed to catch Nigel's character speaking...that man
barely looks like he has aged in the last 12 years!!!
I also caught a glimpse of Catherine Disher, she had
that look on her face that Natalie got when she was
trying to cover something up from the mortal world
regarding vampires. :)

It was a treat to be able to see them. (I might also
add that it's a good show!)
