I responded to this earlier but it doesn't seem to have gone through so... I believe Natalie laughs in 'Only the Lonely' when she and Roger return from their afternoon together with the "poor kite." She also does this cute little squeak in 'Dead Issue--the one with the Fiores and Illse--when she tells Nick that she almost forgot his "veggie drink". In regards to key sounds of the series I think the sounds of the precincts are important, like background noise, phones ringing, people talking. Also, perhaps the sound of the cable car that runs in front of the 96th Precinct but for the life of me I can't figure out if it actually comes out in the show's soundtrack. And the sound of Nick's phone/answering machine along with his various recorded greetings should be considered important. It's probably more a generation thing for people who aren't using it on a regular basis. Toronto Airport for older people and Pearson for the younger. I can't remember off hand when the Federal Government changed the name from Toronto to Pearson. However I'm pretty sure it was after the FK series ended). What I do know is that when they did it, it felt very strange and artificial to hear the airport suddenly referred to as the Pearson Airport. Now it's second nature. OK, the comment is a little catty given Don's receding hairline...but he was being annoying in this episode. 1) the level of political support that Natalie and Schanke show seems a little much for the characters. They get so wound up they start doing dumb things in their jobs. 2) Schanke calling Myra to ask if he is registered to vote makes me laugh. It is the sort of thing my dad and brother would have to do. 3) everyone notice the framed front page from the National Intruder on the wall behind the editor in his office? The story about the deceased rockstar who is really a 400 year old vampire? Someone doing set-dressing was having fun with that. 4) if your car is sideswipped...so you crash into 2 other cars, get launched into the air, fly sidewise for a couple of hundred feet like the General Lee - the General Lee if the gastank spontaneously exploded - and land on the roof....it is nice to have a vampire handy to kick the door open and pull you to safety before the knick-knacks in your trunk explode like a Chinese New Years. 5) the only people keeping a clear head in this show are Nick and Stonetree. 6) I like the touch that Schanke notices the difference in spelling the word "from" between two documents and uses that to deduce that they were probably written by two different people. It is the sort of small detail that I've read about police detectives following in real life. 7) after Schanke crashes into the side of a parked police car (with its lights on) at city hall, it makes you wonder if the Caddy could have been saved in the first episode if someone aside Schanke was driving it. Geez louise. Three parked cruisers with their lights on in a well-lit intersection...and Schanke drives a taxicab into one of them. I know the writer needed a distraction so Nick could save the day without being noticed...but why couldn't they have just had some rubber-necking civilian drive hit the cruiser, instead of Schanke. That his driving is that bad in an emergency situation is just too much.
