YOu can get a warm day in April where the temperature goes up into the
seventies. However it doesn't last very long and by night the temperature
will definitely drop again. So even if they had started off without coats
they're going to want them by nightfall.

Also you can't go swimming in April no matter what the air temperature is.
-the water's just too cold. I should also point out that the temperature
would probably be colder by about 10 degrees by the lake.

Here 'tis, step by exhaustive step:

"Only the Lonely" opens with Nat's birthday. She has her party at
work, then goes home to Sidney and announces that she's out of cat
food. At the grocery store, she (literally) runs into Roger Jamison.
This is all on a Tuesday, as we later learn.

The sun comes up. Back at work, Nat gets a call from Roger, who
describes himself as "the guy you decked last night." He invites her
for a "late lunch." Even though it's a "late" lunch, the sun is still
relatively high in the sky (short shadows, not long ones.) Nat &
Roger eat at a park with a beach visible in the background, and
people are wearing swimsuits and playing volleyball on the beach. You
can see an occupied lifeguard stand. (Now, people may wear shorts in
April in Toronto, but I'll bet the rent
very few of them go swimming in Lake Ontario until at least late
May.) Natalie talks about enjoying the day, and Roger tells her,
"That's what summer's for." Nat and Roger come home to find a jealous
Nick in her apartment.

Now it's Thursday. Nick meets Nat at work and apologizes for messing
up her date with Roger. She tells him she "accepted your apology last
night." Nick leaves. Nat, in a snit, calls Roger, even though it's
"very late." They arrange a get-together; Nat says, "Tomorrow night
sounds perfect."

It's daylight again. Nat and Roger are driving to the greenhouse. It
gets dark. Nick shows up at the morgue, where a distressed Grace
tells him Roger matched the murderer's DNA. Nick goes to Nat's
apartment and finds her date book, which he opens. At the bottom of
the page is preprinted the word,
"Saturday"; next to that, in a box probably intended for the date,
someone has handwritten "28." (Among the handwritten tasks slated for
Saturday is "LAUNDRY!") There is a dividing line immediately above
the word "Saturday," and above that line, in bold print, are the
words: "2 p. Roger--picnic?"

During the ep, both Nick and Natalie flash back to her 28th birthday
(described as such by one of the morgue employees), when Nick is
brought into the morgue in a very messy body bag. Nat opens the bag,
then she turns away to answer the phone. Nick wakes up and climbs off
the table, causing Nat to start and drop the phone. As she does this,
she steps to the side, allowing a very brief view of the calendar on
the wall behind her. The word "June" is clearly visible just over her
left shoulder.

So from this, we can conclude, for purposes of canon: Natalie goes on
the picnic with Roger on Friday, June 27; Nick and Nat quarrel in the
morgue on Thursday, June 26; Nat and Roger have lunch on
Wednesday, June 25, and.....

TA DA! Natalie's birthday is Tuesday, June 24.

Color me impressed! :-) Truly! And the fact that this discussion is about
one of my most favorite episodes - N&NPacker here! - makes it even better.
