Yesterday I was having a conversation with someone - about Post-It Notes. Here's a little background for you: I bought a lovely pad shaped like a daisy - there was a layer of yellow, topped with a layer of pink, topped with a layer of orange. I took the pad to work and was happily using the orange ones on top, patiently, yet eagerly, anticipating the day I would eventually reach the hot pink layer. Then, one morning I come into work and my pad has been torn apart!! Assaulted! Someone violated the most holy of all office supplies! I could not fathom why or even who would do such a cruel and thoughtless thing. And on top of it all, I could not even get the pad to stick back together again - it had been permanently separated into uneven thirds. Turns out it was this woman in another department - she saw them, thought they were her friend's post-its (she didn't know that her friend and I had recently switched desks), so she tore them apart in order to use some of each color to decorate the computer monitor of someone at work who was having a birthday. When she found out they were MY post-its (ones that I bought with my own money) and not her friend's, she apologized - but, honestly, didn't treat the offense with the gravity it rightly deserved. In fact, she thought the whole thing was kind of funny - while I, on the other hand, was traumatized and still have not gotten over it! I was so upset about the raped pad of Post-Its that I gave them away (to the birthday girl). It was just too painful for me to look at them. Eventually, the assailant offered to replace the broken Post-It note pad. And, eventually, she did - but not with an identical pad; she bought me square purple ones with the initial B in the corner. It was a nice gesture, but looking at them reminded me of what I no longer had and I tucked them away in the drawer, unopened. Still with me? Okay. So, yesterday, I was telling someone this story and trying to explain what is *seemingly* irrational behavior over a pad of Post-It notes (Don't judge me!). When I got to the part about the replacement pad vs. the original pad, I said, "But I don't want another one - I want THAT one!" As those words came out of my mouth, I thought, "Dang, that sounds familiar. Why does that sound familiar?" It took me until yesterday evening to realize that those were LaCroix's words about Nicholas! So, there you go - Post-It Notes and LaCroix. Life is at least as strange as fiction!
