Charles duChamps mentions that he has known Nick for half a century now. So obviously he knows what Nick is. Also later Nick tells Janette that he had trusted Charles with everything. Yet Charles says that he feels that Nick's money is associated with a dark secret. Isn't being a vampire dark secret enough? Does Charles really have no idea what being a vampire implies? Any thoughts on the matter? Different in that it is the first book in over a decade to give me nightmares. Some of the imagery is a little too well described. PErhaps the dark secret is the foundation of Nick's fortune---stealing the money from the Dauphin, and then killing him instead of returning him for the ransom. I got the feeling that Nick is pretty ashamed of the way he obtained his money. Nancy Kaminski ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Feb 2007 06:06:58 -0600 From: eowyn23@j....... As any creature needs to sustain themselves, a logical man who listens to Nick talking abour his quest for redemption will come to an understanding about the human kills that Nick actually committed. Nick can't justify that kill in any way other than greed, which he doesn't want or can't admit to because he sees that as another sin against him... one that can't be easily accepted because of the murder. I mean, come on, he got the money in what, the 17th Century? Personally, I would assume that any creature more than a couple of centuries old would have more than a bit of money just because of compounding interest, and especially in the case of vampires who can 1) Hypnotize their prey (ie coerce them into giving their money to said vamp 2) Steal from them outright. --- P J <blue_twingo772@y.......> wrote: > I've been re-watching "Blood Money" tonight and > stumbled over a sentence in the first flashback. > > Charles duChamps mentions that he has known Nick > for half a century now.
