I'm pretty sure you're right: we never see Tracy at the loft. There was an
episode where Nick went over to her place; but that was when she wasn't
there, and he was trying to figure out where she might be.

But maybe Vachon and Urs aren't "less likely" visitors.

When I was writing FK4 I picked up on the contrast between Schanke's
frequent visits and Tracy's non-existent ones, and decided that there had to
be a reason. (Other than the writers simply not getting around to doing a
scene with Tracy there.) And it seemed to me most probable that the reason
was that Schanke was a man and Tracy a woman.
I figured it could be that Tracy wanted to make it clear--mostly to
Nick, but by extension to the rest of the squad room--that they were
*working* partners. It's notorious that the close relationship between
male/female cops who partner together sometimes develops into an affaire.
She might want to avoid the possibility that her new partner might make a
pass at her by ensuring that they have little contact outside working hours,
especially in private. After all, the simplest way to evade potential
trouble is by just avoiding the situation.
Tracy's position is delicate enough as it is: a young woman, newly
promoted, and Commissioner Vetter's daughter. She'd want to avoid talk
among her other colleagues--especially if it might get back to her father.
She really, really wants to be seen as totally professional.
Of course, after she and Nick get to know each other better, things
could change. Maybe, if there'd been more FK (sigh), we'd have seen her
coming over to the loft, just as Schanke did. But in Season III they're
only newly partners, and she doesn't really know Nick yet.

Interesting line of thinking. I can see it as being correct.
An other interesting idea is what would Tracy think if she saw
how Nick lives? Shaded windows. Blood in the fridge. Schanke in the
end rejected the idea of vampires as something from the movies. Tracy
knows Vachon. She already knows about vampires. Little things that
Nick could shrug off with Schanke would be impossible with Tracy. And
we already know that she is a resistor - at least to Nick's ability to
whammy. Keeping her out of Nick's Loft does have the effect of not
having to go "jeez, can't that woman figure this out!!!" at any point.

Stepping into the real world for a moment, I suspect that the
real reason we never saw Tracy in the loft was simply that at no point
did a story-line require it.

Another possible reason is to show the difference between the
Nick-Tracy relationship and the Nick-Schanke relationship. By the
second season, Nick and Schanke were *friends* as well as partners.
Nick and Tracy never had the time to develop that level of
relationship, so there's a distance between them.

But I definitely also agree with the point that if she were to have
spent any time in his loft, only narrative convienience could have
kept her from figuring out the truth about Nick.

The CotK website addy is in my sig. Click on "Enter the Comfy
Cottage," and you'll get to a page from which you can click on the
"Library". The stories are not all necessarily CotK; they're stories
written by CotK members. Maybe some of the other CotK members can
recommend some your friend might particularly like.
