Have any of you been seeing the tv commercials/trailers for the film "300"?
The story is based on Frank Miller's graphic novel about the Battle of
Thermopylae in 480 B.C. and guess who's in it...

Our very own...

Greg Kramer! As Ephor, in full-on head to toe prostetic make-up.

Oh, yeah, David Wenham's in it too, but Greg didn't have any scenes with
him. Apparently Gerard Butler is nice, though.

If anyone goes to see this film, it would be great to hear a report!

Subject: Unnamed "Hunted" Villain

In second-season's "Hunted," I noticed no name -- spoken or in
the credits -- for the sociopathic woman who hunted people. (I
wonder whether there is a name in the script, but even if there is,
the name is not a component of the episode as aired.) For me, this
namelessness contributes to the distance between her and everyone
else, both the distance she maintains in her feeling of superiority,
and the distance everyone else would feel by not being sociopathic murderers.

Still, it's unusual. She may have more lines and more screen
time than any other unnamed character in FK. (Other unnamed
characters who spring to mind are the deranged fan in "Dying for
Fame" who murders Wendy and back-up singers -- I wonder what happened
in his murder trial, with the Rebecca cover-up? -- and the bald,
African-descended, Raven waitress who appears in several
second-season episodes, but has lines only in "Bad Blood.")

What does the present-day hunter's namelessness mean to your
interpretation of "Hunted"?

(BTW, in the 01/29 digest, Chris Thatcher <mb_the_spy@y.......>
mused on GWD roles, and asked "is [the illegitimate son] Edward [in
_King Lear_]?" It's "Edmund." Like the _Blackadder_ character. <g>)

For those who are interested, the film opens in the US on March 9. It will
also be making its 'debut' at the Berlin Film Festival next month, so our German
list members have a good chance to see it before the rest of us.

Subject: new series sounds too familiar

Hi

From Newsday Today

CBS has picked up two more drama pilots: Twilight and Babylon Fields.
Twilight centers around a private investigator/vampire who struggles with the
repercussions of immortality, his adversaries in the vampire world and the love
he feels for a mortal.

HMM, you would think that CBS would recognize their own show. I wonder if
someone like Parriot could complain.

I am not sure how I feel about this

On what grounds? There were many vampire detectives in novels before Forever
Knight. PN Elrod comes to mind. And I know there was at least one other about the
same timeframe.

Instead of pre-judging the show, why not watch it? Just because it isn't
Forever Knight doesn't mean it is a bad show. It might be terrific. It might not be.
Most likely, some of us will love it, some won't.

let's not have a lash out at another television show like we did when The
Kindred tv series was announced. Although I don't think any of us would do this, a
forkni-l member did go to the Kindred discussion board and post some very
hateful remarks about The Kindred making FK fandom look bad. I know of one FK fan
who basically dropped FK because of these postings. She didn't want to be a part
of such a petty fandom :-(

Well you could also say it sounds similar to 'Angel'. That's kind of
why I couldn't get into Angel...
Before people jump in on this, yes, I know it is a different show,
but there are marked similarities, so TO ME (IN MY OWN MIND) it was
almost like betraying FK to watch Angel. I think I also felt that
way because it aired right around the same time FK was airing.

With this new show, if anyone complains they would say the main
character is a PI not a cop... which actually makes it more similar
in that respect to Angel... So it looks like they took bits and
pieces from both shows. <g>

HI

I was not complaining yet. I will certainly give it a chance. I have no idea
on casting. I was just wondering how similar a show can be before it becomes
copyright infringement. More as a point of interest than complaint.

	Enjoy it.
If it is good and successful...it may lead others to the
"original" show (IE Forever Knight on DVD) or it may lead to someone
getting up the leverage for something like a FK reunion show...based
upon the popularity of vampire television.

Wouldn't it be fun to see Ger and Catherine playing Nick and Nat
once again....almost twenty years after Last Knight...a mortal coronoer
and her semidead police boyfriend with an undead "father in law" that
they are having to deal with.

Even if it a reunion never happens...why be petty about a new
show?

This isn't like Battlestar Galactica...where the new show is
very clearly a remake of the original.
This is someone using concepts that are basic enough that in a
one-sentence description...they look a lot a like.
If you have a character who is a vampire...it is a common
formula to have them conflicted about living forever, to have vampiric
enemies and to have the friction of a mortal love....
Many sitcoms today are "a clueless husband, his put-upon wife,
their wacky kids deal with their annoying parents and the hassels of
modern life"
Ingredients are the same...it is how you cook them up that
defines the show.

	Would I like to see a remake/continuation of FK...yep.
But, until someone in Hollyweird sees the money to be made in
such an endeavor, I think dismissing a new show because it sounds a
little familiar in a one-sentence description is going a little too far.

	Tim

I've got to admit that I'm amused by the wording of the report on this here:

Hey I don't care if the idea is similar. We aren't
going to get any more FK in the near future. I'm more
than willing to see what this new one is like.
People said the same thing about Star Trek-NG. Ive
seen all the Star Trek TV series and they all have
good characters and episodes. I knid of like that the
new show has a vampire detective and fights the same
feeling Nick did. Maybe it's a tribute to FK and with
hope this one will have a far better ending.

We all love FK and wish it was still going but it's
not. I was and old Dark Shadows fan and thought I
would die when it was over...LOL I didn't. I say if
we all love Vampires...the more the merrier. I don't
see watching another show that may be just as good as
betraying the wondeful series that FK was. Its just
supporting new Vampire material.
