I also looked it up on a few mythology sites, including some specializing in Egyptian myths (no time for book research, I'm also cooking dinner), and it doesn't seem to come up. Hope that helps. The schedule for confessions is posted in the church---if Nick had looked at that he would know if it were safe to be in the priest's side of the confessional. In my church, as soon as someone kneels in the penitent's side, the kneeler triggers a light over the door so other people would see if someone were in there or not and thus get in line for their turn. Seeing the light on when confession is not being heard would be very odd indeed and might lead someone to open the door to see what was going on. Given the time that he lived, not to mention the number of people he himself executed by crucifixion, I find it impossible to imagine any experience that would make LaCroix see a cross as anything but a very commonplace form of execution, with no more potential as a symbol of goodness than a hangman's noose or a guillotine or an electric chair would have for later generations. There's a lot of evidence that in the FK universe, the power of objects that are "symbols of the one true light" do not depend on the vampire's belief for their effect. Nick is zapped by the obsidian knife before he knows anything about its spiritual significance, and he is affected by the menorah although he was never in his mortal life taught to look at it with respect, much less reverence. So, LaCroix is at the mercy of the cross and other symbols. He seems to accept this as an unpleasant fact of life, and probably puts it in the category of things that, in his mind, are evidence of the worldview behind his rhetorical question to Nick during the asteroid scare, "If there is a God, must It be sane?" Ah, but Liz is describing true history that requires some knowledge and/or research that goes beyond--"Ok, we're in Eqypt, we need a symbol of 'the light'--okay, Sun God..." Or perhaps "Props..We need a sarcophagus--okay, what's that symbol on top of it?" <gr> FK makes some huge howlers when it comes to basic history (the whole Queen of Harps episode is ludicrous). If Susan Bennett were still on Forkni-L, she'd be stepping in with an eloquent speech against the whole Blackwing episode, particularly the concept of Nick and Marian's sexual healing encounter.
