But there's more on the event on the discussion board. I have to say that whilst I congratulate Ger on gaining his citizenship, a small part of me is sad that his Welsh-Canadian background appears to have been abandoned. They have given a lot in the way of identity, work and opportunity and I hope that won't be forgotten. Anyway, as said before, congratulations Ger. I'm sorry to bother everyone, but I'm looking for crash space in the Boston area. I have a friend who is in the NE Medical Center in Boston, who was just placed on a priority list for a liver transplant. Without a transplant, they are only giving her two weeks to live. I am trying to get out to Boston this weekend to visit her in the hospital, and to be there for her husband who is at her side. I may be with 2-3 other people, and we would like to find a place to crash if possible. I have feelers out in several communities, so I might not need it, but I'm trying to cast a wide net so that I can be sure to find something. I can be contacted through email, or my cell phone number is 000-000-0000. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Jun 2006 15:30:10 +0000 From: Nancy Kaminski <nancykam@c.......> Subject: Re: FK news flash -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: Laurie of the Isles <laudon1228@y......> > My understanding was that the U.S. doesn't allow dual > citizenship. It's my understanding that dual citizenship is now allowable, as long as you do not serve in the other country's armed forces or hold public office there (on the theory that you might have to actively participate in actions against the US). I suppose this will make it easier for Ger to get work here in the US. Also, a person who is automatically granted another citizenship does not risk losing U.S. citizenship. However, a person who acquires a foreign citizenship by applying for it may lose U.S. citizenship. In order to lose U.S. citizenship, the law requires that the person must apply for the foreign citizenship voluntarily, by free choice, and with the intention to give up U.S. citizenship. Intent can be shown by the person's statements or conduct. The U.S. Government recognizes that dual nationality exists but does not encourage it as a matter of policy because of the problems it may cause. Claims of other countries on dual national U.S. citizens may conflict with U.S. law, and dual nationality may limit U.S. Government efforts to assist citizens abroad. The country where a dual national is located generally has a stronger claim to that person's allegiance. http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1753.html --- Nancy Kaminski <nancykam@c.......> wrote: Apparently the rules have changed in the last few > years. -------------- Original message > ---------------------- > From: Laurie of the Isles <laudon1228@y......> > > > My understanding was that the U.S. doesn't allow dual > > citizenship. > "The price for this gift is the darkness of the night, and the blood of humanity to sustain you." -THICKER THAN WATER, Kristen Fife in progress See my blog at http://spaces.msn.com/members/landinn/ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Jun 2006 11:45:34 -0700 From: Aviva Blumenthal <viv11374@y......> Subject: Dual Citizenship( wasRe: FK news flash) My Father came here from Israel in the late Sixties, became a citizen after he married my mother, and continues to retain Israeli citizenship. But it would make more sense I guess with Ger living in the US, and his family now having put roots down there as well, it would make sense. I hope I didn't sound bitter in my post. I was just lamenting the fact that Canada/Wales' loss is the US's gain and what a prize they are getting too!!
