I'll bet he'd enjoy football (the proper kind, not the American kind
;) ). For some reason I can quite easily picture him exclaiming
"Gooooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaal!" ;p

I don't see that on the page.

Amanda queried about the www.gwdfc.org announcement

<<I don't see that on the page.

The page was a header put up for flag day only. But there's more on the
event on the discussion board. I have to say that whilst I congratulate Ger
on gaining his citizenship, a small part of me is sad that his
Welsh-Canadian background appears to have been abandoned. They have given a
lot in the way of identity, work and opportunity and I hope that won't be
forgotten.

Anyway, as said before, congratulations Ger.

My understanding was that the U.S. doesn't allow dual
citizenship. Or is that only for people who were
Americans to begin with and acquiring new citizenship?

Hi there... I'm sorry to bother everyone, but I'm looking for crash space in
the Boston area.

I have a friend who is in the NE Medical Center in Boston, who was just
placed on a priority list for a liver transplant. Without a transplant, they
are only giving her two weeks to live.

I am trying to get out to Boston this weekend to visit her in the hospital,
and to be there for her husband who is at her side. I may be with 2-3 other
people, and we would like to find a place to crash if possible.

I have feelers out in several communities, so I might not need it, but I'm
trying to cast a wide net so that I can be sure to find something.

I can be contacted through email, or my cell phone number is 000-000-0000.

Apparently the rules have changed in the last few years. It's my
understanding that dual citizenship is now allowable, as long as you
do not serve in the other country's armed forces or hold public office
there (on the theory that you might have to actively participate in
actions against the US).

I suppose this will make it easier for Ger to get work here in the US.

 From the Department of State:
A U.S. citizen may acquire foreign citizenship by
marriage, or a person naturalized as a U.S. citizen
may not lose the citizenship of the country of
birth.U.S. law does not mention dual nationality or
require a person to choose one citizenship or another.
Also, a person who is automatically granted another
citizenship does not risk losing U.S. citizenship.
However, a person who acquires a foreign citizenship
by applying for it may lose U.S. citizenship. In order
to lose U.S. citizenship, the law requires that the
person must apply for the foreign citizenship
voluntarily, by free choice, and with the intention to
give up U.S. citizenship.

Intent can be shown by the person's statements or
conduct. The U.S. Government recognizes that dual
nationality exists but does not encourage it as a
matter of policy because of the problems it may cause.
Claims of other countries on dual national U.S.
citizens may conflict with U.S. law, and dual
nationality may limit U.S. Government efforts to
assist citizens abroad. The country where a dual
national is located generally has a stronger claim to
that person's allegiance.

My Father came here from Israel in the late Sixties,
became a citizen after he married my mother, and
continues to retain Israeli citizenship.

I also know quite a few Americans who moved to Israel
and they (and sometimes their Israeli-born children)
have dual citizenship.

Judy clarified

<<He also can keep his Canadian citizenship. He now has duel

I didn't realise that you could do that, I was also under the impression
that Canadian citizenship could not be kept if one becomes a citizen of
another country, but what all the changes etc it's hard to keep up with all
the changes in immigration laws. But it would make more sense I guess with
Ger living in the US, and his family now having put roots down there as
well, it would make sense.

I hope I didn't sound bitter in my post. I was just lamenting the fact that
Canada/Wales' loss is the US's gain and what a prize they are getting too!!
