Topics of the day: 1. self-loathing, and something else (2) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 15 May 2006 15:55:17 -0700 From: chris thatcher <mb_the_spy@y......> Subject: self-loathing, and something else I agree and disagree with what has been said, that nick hates the vampire and not himself. the problem I see is, where do you draw the line? from the perspective of mental illness, how do you separate the "real" person from the disease? it's not easy. when you have a thought, is it your "real" self telling you, or is it the Beast? And he has that lovely guilt complex. When something goes wrong that he thinks--rightly of wrongly--he could have prevented, what part of himself does he blame? His loathing for the vampire is always goiing to leak over onto his human self when his human self isn't able to control the vampire self; and face it, he's not going to be able to do it all the time. Natalie with her constant encouragement (and lecturing when necessary) is good for him, but not yet as a girlfriend. had the show continued, we probably would have seen him give in to his feelings for her, then pull back in terror, then give in... they should stay friends for now. and the something else: I had some people over to my place a while ago, and had my DVDs laying out, underneath some other stuff. Aswe were leaving, a guy said, "hey, is that Forever Knight?" I was pleased and impressed that he knew about it. chris ;? "I don't bite.... Well, that's wrong; I do bite." ~K'Ehleyr ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 May 2006 19:11:44 -0400 From: Debbie Clarke <dittany121@h.......> Subject: Re: self-loathing, and something else I agree. I've always had problems with the concept that the vampire is somehow separate from Nick. The fact remains Nick is a vampire who strives to act like a human. The strain would be tremendous on him. It's a day by day challenge for him to maintain the illusion. Nick knows better than anyone that he can't have a close relationship with Natalie. He might be able to stop killing her the first few times but in the end he wouldn't be able stop himself. That's what vampires do. And Nick was very good at it.
