My companion is from Ottawa, but lives in the US with a green card. The only question they asked us outside of the normal was, "who's playing?" Chris broke into a big grin and said, "The Senators, it's going to be a good game, but we're running late..." The strangest question I've gotten at the border was on the eve of the Bush vs. Gore "tie" that wasn't resolved until I was back in the States. Anyway, I have a very Southern accent and when I handed my ID to the guy at the airport customs station, he asked if I knew then President Clinton (since I'm from Arkansas). I explained I'd met him several times as he was a friend of some family members, but not since he'd been named president. He made a comment like, "With that accent, I figured you might know him." I don't remember him even asking for my birth certificate! LOL! Can you just picture LaCroix being questioned? "I'm MUCH too old and powerful to answer such a question." (Something tells me the guards probably can't be whammied) The fun for me is always taken the Ratsie Wot Kilt Screed through customs. It is still in the police evidence bag. Alas, no one has ever gone through my backpack so I've never had to explain why there's a realistic but fake half eaten dead white lab rat in my backpack. --Libs ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Feb 2006 14:52:00 -0800 From: VADC <freedom_bandit@y.......> Subject: Re: question I don't actually think LaCroix would bother answering. Somehow, I'd like to think most vampires would have better fashion sense than to wear something like that, even if it meant they could go out in the sun. Although it could be handy to have around in case of emergencies. . . and since there are mortals who use them, if asked about it, you would have a plausible excuse for going around dressed like that! I don't think the vampies would have any trouble producing paperwork saying they were anyone, from any where, being any age they wanted. They have people to take care of that sort of thing ^_^ . But even if they didn't have anyone in the vampire community, they would have enough saved up over the centuries to buy the most convincing human-made fake IDs possible. As I was brushing my teeth this morning, I was thinking (I know a dangerous thing) Anyhoo... In the episode "My Boyfriend is a Vampire" Nick and Natalie's relationship seems to be pretty open. What I mean is they appear to the world to be 'more than just friends'. I haven't seen the whole ep in a while but two examples I can remember are (1) when they are at the crime scene and Tracy talks to Natale about her (Nat's) relationship with Nick and Natalie says "It's complicated." She doesn't deny that there are feelings there. To me that isn't the phrase you'd use if you are just friends with someone. (2) In the precinct when Nick gives one of my favorite lines - "What do you want me to say to you, I don't know what to say, Tell me what to say." The conversation doesn't seem very private. To me it seems like one of those office conversations that if Nick were to turn around he'd see a whole bunch of people staring at him or quickly pretending they were working through the whole thing. Especially, if such a conversation were between two people who everyone thought had something going between them. The rumors of a relationship between Nick and Natalie, and the office gossip that goes with it, has been fodder for fanfic, but I thought the show brought it up too. Schanke made a few comments and so did Tracy. So I am just bringing up the idea that in MBIAV, they don't seem to be keeping it a secret. Not that they are announcing it out loud (that would be unprofessional) but it seems to be pretty open. Sorry for any grammar or incomplete thoughts, but it is still early. Any thoughts? -Amanda "This thing... man... whatever it is...evil may have created it, left its mark on it, but evil does not rule it. That is about the size, or maybe a little smaller A book I read on the SkunkWorks indicate a size more along that of a large marble for a stealth-fighter. I think there is a little marketing ploy in that one, but I do believe the story that the original prototype was invisible to radar the first time they tested it... until it suddenly appeared. When someone looked outside, they realized a crow had landed atop the scale-model and was what was being detected. >Of course they may survive at that speed, but their clothes probably wouldn't.<gr> MMM. So - entirely hypothetically, of couse - you could guess as to Janette's intentions to fly over the border based upon her decolletage.....there was a lady who liked to stay in country at night. :-) Tim ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Feb 2006 14:01:55 -0500 From: Stephanie Kellerman <stephke@i.......> Subject: Re: question It may be the bomber I am thinking of. I don't remember what my father said. He worked on and tested both the bomber and the fighter. I just remember when they were testing both while they were still "supposed" to be a secret, that is the figure he said. No, I can't imagine Janette flying over in the clothes she wore. I am trying to decide whether LaCroix would be too snobbish to care if they caught him on radar or not. I can just see the pilot of a scrambled jet flying along and LaCroix, while flying right beside the jet, just looking at him as he does just mentally daring the pilot to do anything. Can you imagine a whammied pilot? Phillips, Tim wrote: > > > >>Yes, but if they get close to 100 mph, (stall speed for a fighter) they >> >> >could be mistaken >>>for a stealth fighter. Wasn't there a plotline in some FK War or other just about this? (Or was it a parody of same, regarding animals of some sort?) Two Screed-related thoughts regarding Nancy's and Lib's experiences: I wonder if Screed could have managed to squeeze in that 6 inch clearance under your Del Sol, Nancy <grin>? And Libs, you're lucky that H5N1 is a bird disease (so far): if rats were its host, you'd have a very hard time keeping TRWKS out of the hands of the public heath authorities. (I was once asked to declare what, if anything, I was bringing into Canada when I drove up to TO to meet a friend from the then-USSR. It was 3 am, raining, and I was tired. I replied, honestly: "A box of Corn Flakes." The customs official must have been as tired as me, or knew about wacky US citizens, so she let me through.) I have more border crossing stories, but they're way OT of FK, so I'll stop now. Cheers, Julia UF list cobra This is the 1,028th day since the declaration of mission accomplished in Iraq. ------------------------------ End of FORKNI-L Digest - 21 Feb 2006 to 22 Feb 2006 (#2006-55) **************************************************************
