The GSS was a major sub-group of the Cousins in War 8, kind of a James
Bond-ish bunch. Since then, they've been a good excuse for us to turn up
pretty much any high-tech gadget we want in the CERK dungeon. We've had a
couple of (former) agents play since then. Cousin Bob (can't remember his
GSS alias) was in charge of the GSS and served as one of the heads of
Cerberus a couple of times. And for those who don't remember, the Cousinly
leadership in times of War has been called Cerberus ever since War 7 (the
first time we had multiple leaders).

Shoulda guessed about the Urchins and the Deviants.
But "General's Secret Service"? Sheesh. How many
factions does LC get? *chuckling* even Nick only gets
two that I know of. so, what makes GSS different from
NA and the Cousins?

It was slightly more hardcore. Kind of like the General's shock troops. We
did the dirty work, but got the cool gadgets.

Are there even any GSSers still around?

Columbia House is having a sale on boxed season set.
FK season 1 is $47.97 (not much of a savings) but
season 2 is at $35.97 which isn't bad. Link below.

Ok, I just had this thought and figured maybe I'd put it out there.
I am always kind of torn between Nick / Nat and Nick / Janette. I can see it
both ways... then today, as I am working on a fic, it hit me....

I kind of see a parallel of Nick and Nat's relationship as kind of similar to a
second marriage. Ummm.... a second marriage following a death, or a very
amicable divorce.... where there are still very strong feelings for the first
partner and there is a great possibilty of a reconcilliation if that were to be
possible.

Sorry for the bad explanation, but it just popped in there and I am having a
problem with words today. :)

I think you've got the interpretation I've always used.
It is obvious that Nick has had quite a few lady friends down through the
centuries.
I think he would be content with Janette forever... but she has withdrawn
that option from him.
So....he finds someone like Natalie. If she was already part of the
permanent nightshift... she'd be with Nick... but we'd also be missing a lot
of the fun caused by the conflict of that particular issue.

I absolutely agree with this, with the caveat that
Natalie represents "humanity" and "mortality" to Nick.
So many other NNPackers that I've read seem to try to
ignore the relationship of Nick and Janette, but you
can't. I have no problem with the fact that Nick still
loves Janette but he is IN love with Natalie at the
time of the show. And, "Partners of the Month" offered
some fabulous fodder for tension for poor angst-ridden
Nick. I also think that if Season three hadn't occured
with Janette finding Robert, that it is very possible
that Nick and Janette would reunite. Love is a
bittersweet emotion. When it works, it is the most
fantastic thing on earth. When it doesn't work and you
move on, the best thing about it is you can say to
yourself "I survived it once; I can survive it again."
