Haven't posted in eons but you're on the right path Kristen. As long as everyone
who wants to be involved realizes that the actors that created the FK we
all know and love will pretty much not be involved in a new version. Of course
one can hope for a guest appearance or a rebirth as another character, but I
wouldn't hold my breath. I'll keep tuned and interested.

I'm curious if I'm the only one with this kind of odd attitude toward FK
missionary work.

My experience with fandom is typically that you pimp your favorite show for all
you're worth...something I certainly did with FK when it was airing.

After it was over, though, I did not--could not--watch for two or three years
or more. Only recently, with the arrival of the DVDs, have I been able to watch
it with enjoyment, and even then, that enjoyment is bittersweet, knowing the
path on which these people I came to love so are travelling...and where that path
ends. I will not watch anything Jim Parriott does as I don't trust him (any
more than I trust my heart to anything Don Bellisario does).

I am part of the group of FK fen who follow the "rule of informed consent"; I
will NOT encourage someone to watch the show without warning them (often with
SPECIFIC details, if they're willing), "Before you start to watch this, you must
know the following: One) You will come to LOVE these people, who will become
quite fully realized as PEOPLE instead of merely characters. Two) They do NOT
end well."

Does anyone else feel slightly guilty/uncomfortale about pimping FK, knowing
how it shifts so starkly from a tone and theme of hope and redemption to being a
tragedy where not only do things end badly for beloved characters, but where
they end thusly because those characters *destroy one another*?

Just curious,
Amy

Or can't find it. Much to my frustration, none of the stores around where I
live stock it. Indigo doesn't even have it online.

THere are probably fans there that don't even know FK is on DVD now.

I just found the second season DVDs at Best Buy last week. They were $47.00,
which isn't a bad price at all.

I haven't checked recently, but I ordered mine through Amazon, and recall
seeing it at DeepDiscountDVD.

As for introducing FK to someone knowing what happens to some of the
characters, it doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I've introduced many
characters to FK through 'Fever' in which my favorite character dies.

Characters die in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, yet I also haven't
hesitated to introduce people to those series. Angel even ended in a sort of
cliffhanger.

It is television, and even in real life people I love have died. Plus, in FK,
we really don't have a final resolution (IMHO). Tracy could still be alive.
We don't see the stake go down into Nick, and so forth.

Shoot, I even ran across a woman from Gilbraltar on-line a few years ago who
I found out loves FK. She asked what happened in season 4 because they hadn't
gotten it et. She was very surprised that the end of Season 3 was the end of
the series.

I watched Near Death again a few days ago and I was wondering if anyone
knows what it was that Nat told Schanke about Nick? Does anyone know of any
fanfics about it?

Nor I! I would have been really teed off if FK had had a happy ending, with,
say, Nick and Nat having a daytime garden wedding in the final scene of the
final episode. It *had* to end in tears.

Your humble & obedient servant,
Angela Gottfred

Not in the least. Being able to make an emotional investment in the
characters, no matter what the eventual outcome, is one of the great joys of
being a fan of this series. And, be warned, these are the types if books I
tend to recommend to friends as well. The bumpier the roller-coaster, the
more enjoyable the ride.

Speaking of which, what did the general group think of NB's last book? I
re-read the first two of the trilogy, and just finished the last book.
Riding a roller-coaster it the perfect analogy for how I felt upon finishing
the last sentence! Nigel should definitely consider writing more, if he
wants to slow down a little as he mentioned in the interview that was posted
to the list earlier in the week.

I don't necessarily agree with the last part, but I do agree that a
really sweet & sappy ending wouldn't have made much sense, given the
way that it was headed. I do think that it could've had a much
better resolution, though. But that's why there is fan fiction.
