Subject: Prayer: KC and family

Most of you may not be aware of all that KC has been going through as of
late. A few weeks back, she had to have emergency surgery on her optic
nerves to remove a cyst (the cause of her ever-increasing migraines), and
was literally blind for almost two weeks.
No sooner had she gotten her sight back and recovered from that, than her
husband ended up spending three days in the hospital due to a cyst rupture
on his left kidney. He has Polycystic Kidney disease, and will be needing
dialysis within the next few months, and eventually will have to have a
transplant. The waiting list is VERY long, so who knows how long he'll be
on dialysis.
Anyway, Paul (KC's husband) is having an AV Fistula surgery done this Friday
(something to prepare him for dialysis~ I don't understand it all).
Although it is an outpatient surgery, it is on a major artery, and is very
dangerous. Please pray all goes well for Paul, and that he recovers
quickly.
Also, pray that he does well on dialysis, and that he gets the much needed
transplant. And pray for KC, as she is feeling very tired and sad lately.
Thank you!

Amanda Berendt asked:
>Which of Nick's previous 'lives' do you think he would reflect most
>on (as in, which would be significant to him and for what reason)?

Actually, I think the series itself answers the question: if there's
one episode in his life that Nick keeps on returning to over and over
again, it's his "fall from grace" (in his view), i.e. the day he
became a vampire -- or, more generally, the circumstances leading up
to and just following that moment. Every season had its story/ies
about the very earliest days of his vampire existence.
From a psychological perspective, though, there is another time in
his life to which one would *expect* him to return -- though we saw
nothing of it in the third season, since TPTB were not about to bring
John Kapelos back as a guest star (more fools they, since the fans
would've loved it). But I'm sure there were many times in the year or
so after Schanke's death that Nick flashed back on his previous
partner. When, say, Tracy was going on about yet another relative,
and Nick was trying to let it go in one ear and out the other, and
then thought, "Well, Schanke'd be talking about Myra all the time,
after all".

If you're really trying to write a story with multiple *historical*
flashbacks, though, the best way is to look at the story structurally.
If it were an episode (not that the budget would've allowed
multiples), then they'd've wanted five distinctly different time
periods in terms of sets and costumes. So divide up Nick's life into
historical periods: medieval, Renaissance, Victorian, etc. And have
one flashback from each.
However, if there are only five of these periods, more or less,
then each of them lasted a pretty long time. From Amanda's question,
I get the impression that it's not so much that she wants to know
which era of Nick's life he'd think about, so much as which specific
incidents he'd dwell on. That suggests that she's planning on going
back to flashbacks we've already had -- revisit scenes from the actual
series.
So, which actual incidents that we *know* about would he dwell on?
Well, I already gave one: his being brought over. We've plenty of
evidence that he dwells on that on a lot!
And that's the clue, of course. The one's that he'd return to are
the ones that have the greatest emotional force -- the critical
turning points in his personal life.
So what are they? The death of his last living (human) relative.
Breaking up with Janette. Killing his wife, when he tried to bring
her over. These come to mind immediately; but you'd need a couple of
more recent ones as well.

The alternative, I suppose, is that some common theme is desired. In
that case, you might be looking at historical episodes that share some
common theme that is dear to Nick's heart. I'm not sure what you'd
come up with! Certainly not from the episodes. But, off the top of
my head: [theme: freedom from oppression] the Peasants' Revolt, the
English Civil War, the French Revolution, the Russian Revolution.
Most of which ended badly, with precisely the opposite of what was
intended. (Now that's a theme LaCroix would endorse.)

I was squeeling with delight a few minutes ago...
I am watching Jeopardy and the category was Flags and this was the
$1000 clue. (as best I can remember how it went - not exactly word
for word but the gist is there)

"The colors on this low-country's flag come from the coat of arms of
the dutchy of Brabant"

Of course I got it... Belgium! The first ringer-in didn't get it.

I was just so happy to hear Alex Trebek say "Brabant" Woo Hoo!!!!

Hmm... I we could all probably hazzard a guess as to what the general would
like. "LaCroix, how could you?" "She was an AB Nicholas, I could hardly
resist my favorite!" (would he prefer AB?)

<I wonder if vamps have a favorite blood type for a

Well we know a carouche would. Screed definately does.
lol. But I do wonder about human types too.

That also brings me back to the thing about how things
in the blood would affect a vamp. Like drugs or
alocohol for example.

Like Spike in Buffy said about feeding off someone at
Woodstock or someplace and spending five hours
watching his hand move...lol.

I think they're conscious recollection. They're things that come to mind,
because in some way, they have a connection with something that he's going
through in the present time.

Subject: Nick's second season coat

Does anyone have any info on what type of jacket/coat Nick wears in the second
season? I love the way it flows when he walks and turns and such. It doesn't
seem to be an ordinary trench/overcoat type.
I know he often wore the duster in the first season, but the one in the second
season seems lighter and more flowy.
Thanks!

I believe it's a silk trench coat. (Wasn't it auctioned off at one of the
Gertherings?) Not particularly practical, but very visually dramatic.
