**Do we know that for sure about FK vamps? I know it is
true for Rice-ian vamps, Lestat learned to read that
way, but I don't recall FK vamps experiencing more
than emotions and sensuality through the blood.**

I have to agree with you. I believe it was more of an emotion and sensuality
experience in the FK vamps. I don't remember anything from the series about
them gaining knowledge from their victims. However, I am a bit rusty so I
could be wrong. If someone has an example of the knowledge-gaining from
blood-drinking in FK vamps, please feel free to point it out to me.

I'm a new member by the way. I've been watching the FK series over and over
again since it first aired. I hope to get to know a lot of you in the
future.

Blessings,
Anajiel

Yes, there is such an episode where Nick has learned to play the ... I think
it is the violin from a victim, but he points out the talent will soon fade.

Killing 2 birds with one stone here....

I think somewhere in FK it was mentioned that vampires have excellent memories.
If so, this would explain how they would adjust to modernity. If you could see
something once and remember it, you could do it. As with anything, if you
don't use an ability it fades over time. An example of this is Excel. Not having
used it in a while, I could use a refresher course but I would be able to pick
it right up again. This is what I think vampires can do.

As for Buffy, I never was a Buffy fan. I like vampires and Buffy does not like
vampires. They are the bad guys. Also, Season 1 was fine but it got silly as
it went on with everyone developing special powers and all. And Angel I
thought was just a FK ripoff. I saw an episode on TV the other day just to refresh
myself about it and the thought still stands.

*raises hand* I'm a rabid Buffy fan now. I'm both a
NNPacker and a Bangel(Buffy Angel shipper) and yes, I
did gravitate toward Angel, I started watching Angel
'cause he reminded me in some ways of Nick.

Buffy took me longer to get into because I was used to
the good guy vamps and stuff but as time went on I got
hooked.

I do like the crossover thing, there's even one Yahoo
RPG where I play Nick and he's helping Angel out at
the moment lol.

I wonder how Detective Lockley from Angel would react
to having Nick on the force lol...she probably would
have a freak attack since she didn't like Angel after
the whole vamps killing her dad thing.

I wonder amongst the Buffy/FK fans, if you were a Nick
fan, did you
gravitate towards the angsty Angel and are LaCroix
fans more favorable
towards Spike?

I've always been a Nick fan and I found Angel to be a poor copy cat of Nick.
Spike, however did add some flavor to the Buffy show. Althought there were
times when he did seem to brood a little.

I always found that the Buffy-vampires lacked conveying the experience that
should come with their age. Okay they are not as old as our FK guys, but they
should be more mature for their age.
With Nick - although he also has his moments of acting silly - I always have
the feeling that this man truly has the experience of 8 centuries.

Anyone agreeing with me on that?

I'd say so... All of the FK vamps seemed to have an aura (for lack of
a better word) of history around them. Yes, they fit right in with
the modern world, but there was a worldlyness about them. I think it
was hinted at during the show. It's a bit early and I am running
late for work, so I can't think of exact moments right now but I felt
it.

Maybe because they were from different times and very different people.
Nick was very responsible at a young age, while Angel is portrayed as
being not too much more than a boozer and womanizer. Spike aka William
wasn't very worldly at all. I imagine these two needed a good deal of
time to grown up and while Nick was a less than willing participant in
his vampirism, these two seemed to revel in it. LaCroix was older and
from all appearances, a well respected and learned man, so he took all
those qualities with him. Darla reminds me a great deal of Janette, two
women that took their new lives in stride and their new powers and used
them to their advantage.

And Spike still had a lot of growing up to do, even in Angel <g>

For those who think Angel is a rip off of FK, I disagree. I thought so too
until I started watching the show. Angel isn't a detective with an established
police force, he handles super natural cases only, he's usually the boss... If
Angel is a rip off of FK, then FK is a rip off of PN Elrod's and another
author's (I think Lee Killough) vampire detective books which were written
before FK premiered.

But FK isn't. To me, Vampire detective is rather generic as is female
detective. It isn't the character, but what you do with him. (talk about a
loaded statement<g>)

Until the 5th season, I didn't like the series Angel as well as Buffy, but
grew to appreciate it. I love all three series.
