Sorry to put a damper on the question of how Nick would have celebrated
Christmas in Jerusalem, but short of some complicated
Larence-of-Arabia-style masquerading adventure, Nick would never have set
foot in Jerusalem. It was not in Christian hands, and access was very
strictly controlled.

One European contemporary of his who * was* given permission to visit
Jerusalem was the monk known to us as St. Francis of Assissi.

Hi, folks. I was just watching the Geminis, Canada's equivalent of the
Emmys, and saw Catherine Disher win an award for Best Actress in a Drama
Series for her role in "Snakes and Ladders." The series was filmed in
Halifax, where I am from. She looked lovely in black and had brought her
son Darcy along as her date. He is a handsome looking young man.

Catherine made an indirect FK comment when she mentioned that this was the
first series that she had worked on that was not showing in reruns on Space,
our sci-fi station in Canada.

Congratulations to Catherine!

Guess who just won herself a Gemini!!! I'm not sure I entirely
appreciate the crack about "Snakes and Ladders" being her first show
not to have its reruns on Space--but what the hell--she earned it.
Long ago.

Snippy... Snip..

Just wanted to add this bit of trivia. I was taught that after you make
the sign of the cross you kiss the side of your finger. Specifically
between the knuckles on the side that faces the thumb. I believe this is
an Italian thing. Could be wrong.

I was also taught you had to bless yourself when passing a catholic
church. In a car walking whatever... And I wanted to thank whoever wrote
out what CCD stood for. One of those things I had always wondered what it
ment when I heard it, just never thought to ask.

Way to go, CD! And, after working diligently with my dh and two different
technical people at the satellite company, I got the TV and satellite and VCR to
all talk to each other just in time to tape the show & CD's award. So I'm happy
to mail out the tape to those who are interested.

I cracked up at her comment about "going on tour" with Carolyn Parrish and
Sheila Copps, two Canadian politicians who have caused all kinds of grief for
the prime minister. Listening to her on CBC Radio for the last few years has
really brought home what a great comic actress she is--a talent totally unused
in the Natalie Lambert role.

I didn't feel it was meant in a derogatory way, but rather, a realistic (and
humorous) one. If an actor is known primarily for work in a certain genre, I
think they may get looked down on as not being able to do "real" dramatic
roles.
Think Jackie Chan, John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, or William Shatner. So it must
be very gratifying to break out of that perception in such a big way.

Again, kudos to CD and I hope Snakes and Ladders is renewed.

It's fun once in a while to stand back and look at
oneself. I think it's funny how we treat fandom like
a religion, with people to convert and lost souls to
find and gather into the fold <G>(a fold consisting
all of wolves in sheep's clothing <EG>).
NOTE, lest anyone feel hurt: I'm not pointing and
laughing at Amanda or anyone else in particular, just
all of us, including myself, as a whole. What Amanda
said just made me think of it.
