I just got around to watching the episode of "Without A Trace" I had
recorded last Thursday and I was surprised to see John Kapelos' name
in the opening credits. Of course I spent the whole episode looking
for him.
He was one of the suspects. It was kind of interesting seeing him
'on the other side of the interrogation table.'

Does anyone get LifetimeM who could record this for me and at least see if
he's in it more than an eye-blink? E-mail me off list if that's possible.

Wasn't he great? It was so neat to see him in a role
with a little more "meat" to it. He's sure looking
good, too. Much better than he did in The Craft a few
years ago, IMHO.
His look in Without A Trace made me think of a Schanke
who had survived some terrible shock that left him
harder but wiser.
Smells like fan fic to me. ;-)

Last night I was watching the Spiderman cartoon on Toon Disney. It
was the epsiode with Morbius and Blade. Anyhoo, at the end, Blade
was saying goodbye to this lady and after he drove away on his bike
she sighed and said "Of all the men in the world I have to fall in
love with a vampire."
Of course I thought, wow... she and Nat should talk!

Subject: Re: Fic Question - christmas?
Christmas as such wasn't that important at all until
fairly recently.
the highest Christian holiday was Easter (and
officially it still is).
No trees then either (that customs was introduced from
Germany in Victorian times).
So, it would have been mass and maybe a feast.

Subject: Re: Fic Question - Christmas
Advent (the period beginning four Sundays before Christmas) was celebrated in
the Catholic Church since about the 9th century. Advent is a penitential period
before Christmas (not as penitential as Lent, however); the idea is that, in
preparing to celebrate the birth of Christ, Christians should think also of his
second coming. In Nick's time, there was no longer a fast during Advent, just
abstinence (although it's not clear exactly what was being abstained from). The
third Sunday of Advent was (and is) Gaudete Sunday
(http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/06394b.htm), "Rejoicing Sunday", a break in the
penitential season--instead of penitential purple vestments, the priest could
wear "rose-coloured" (i.e. pink) ones, and flowers were allowed to decorate the
church. (Fresh flowers during December? Obviously only in warmer climates!) The
next Sunday (the last before Christmas) is penitential again.
Nativity scenes (crèches) are credited to St. Francis of Assisi in Italy in
1223, so it's not something Nick would have grown up with.
For Christmas celebrations, you can find some notes at the end of the webpage
at
http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/03724b.htm; unfortunately, they're a bit vague,
but "merry-making" is well-established as a Christmas practice. :-)
Your humble & obedient servant,
Angela Gottfred

Subject: Missing War Stories--Found!
The missing war stories are now properly archived. They were all from
Nove. 12---obviously that wasn't a very good day for me, at least as
far as archiving was concerned.
Remember, if you find that a story you or someone else in your faction
wrote is not in the archive, let me know so I can get it posted
properly.
Thank you,
War Maestro (ret.)

Subject: Re: Fic Question - Christmas
Thanks to everyone who helped me with this question regarding
medieval christmas.
I was able to visit the various sites that were suggested and the
idea of the mass really fits in with the feeling of my story.
Now I just have to find time to finish writing it (probably while I
am waiting for cookies to bake!)
Thanks again!
