Subject: WAR: Cousinly administrivia

I just sent invites for the Cousins War list (fkcousinswar) to everyone who
submitted a Cousins permission slip who wasn't already subbed to the
list. Keep an eye out for the invites, and please respond to
them. Yahoogroups invites tend to get swallowed by spam blockers, so if
you think you should be on fkcousinswar and find you aren't, let me know
and I'll fix it.

If you were still subbed from the last War and submitted a permission slip
this time, you've been set to "individual emails". If you were still
subbed from the last War and *haven't* yet submitted a permission slip, you
were unsubbed. Remember, if you want to play War with the Cousins and
haven't yet submitted your permission slip, there's still time. The
deadline for slips is Oct. 25, and the address to send them to for the
Cousins is CerberusFK@y........

Just na' sure wot all this War stuff is all about even though you've played
in several or h'at least have had them explained to you?

Just can't take anything seriously (except for shiny pretties wot 'appen to
be sittin' about h'all by their lonesome)?

Wanna be a Merc but are sure ya never could make a mission go as planned?

Wanna jammy-jam h'in a ratsie sort o' way so tha' no 'un kin be 'actly
sure-a-mondo o' wot h'in the woods ya mean?

Then the Ratpack may be for you!

The Ratpack just wanna 'ave funsies!

Libratsie@a.......

P.S. The Ratpack is aligned with the Mercs... well, okay, we've just infested
them and the exterminator says it is the worse case of Ratpackers that he's
ever seen so there's no hope of getting rid of us. So if you play as a
Ratpacker, you'll also get an invite to join the Merc war list.

Subject: Attention Friends & Stratford-Goers: Lisa (Hobbs) Stevens is in the
Hospital (again) :-(

Howdy everyone (especially those of you who will be going to Stratford),

As many of you know from Stephanie's announcements, Lisa Stevens (known to
some of you as Lisa Hobbs), our mutual friend and friend of many in this
fandom, has been in the hospital twice in the past few months.

Unbeknownest to both myself and Stephanie, Lisa was once again admitted to
the hospital last week. The details of her admission are still rather
sketchy, but I think that she was taken away quickly before having had a
chance to call Stephanie or anyone else in the fandom, which is (I'm
guessing?) why neither of us knew. Indeed, I only found out by accident
when I ICQed her a few days ago and her brother answered instead, seeming
surprised because he didn't realise that I didn't know. Usually, when Lisa
has been in the hospital before, she tells Stephanie and then Stephanie
tells the list. So, this caught everyone by surprise for nearly a week!

From what I can make out (Lisa is on a lot of medications and is
occasionally not very lucid), she has a fever, pneumonia, and a blood
infection of some kind, but in spite of how awful all of that sounds, it
appears that she is out of any immediate danger and is just having a lot of
tests done at the moment.

She hasn't been getting many calls lately and would love to hear from her
friends in fandom. Her phone number in the hospital is (812) 948-7614,
which (in case you end up getting accidentally re-routed to the general
switchboard and need to tell the operator how to route you back to her room)
is room 243 bed 1, of the (I think) Floyd County Hospital of Floyd County,
Indiana.

Calling hours end at 9:30 EST. Also: Lisa is on a lot of medications at the
moment and sometimes isn't very lucid, so keep that in mind if you two are
talking and she suddenly stops talking after saying something, doesn't
finish a sentence, says something that is completely unrelated to something
that she just said a few seconds earlier, etc.

She really needs your support and friendship right now.

W.

P.S. : I'll explain in the next message why this relates to Stratford.

Subject: Would Anyone Like a Pair of Tickets to the Oct. 17 & 18 Openings &
Galas for DNGG and GD??

Howdy,

The recent illness of Lisa Stevens has presented me with a problem which
might also present an opportunity to whomever is reading this.

Last month, to get around the service fees that Lisa believed may have been
charged to a non-Canadian credit card (but don't quote me on that; the
PostScript producer thought that there had been a misunderstanding and there
wouldn't have been any extra service charges either way), I volunteered to
buy not just my tickets to the Sat. Oct. 17 opening and gala of DNGG, and my
tickets to the Sun. Oct. 18 opening and gala of GD, but I also purchased her
tickets to the plays and post-performance galas as well.

With today being Thursday (and it is now Thursday night as I am writing
this), and given that Lisa hasn't even been given a potential discharge date
from the hospital (she thinks that it might be tomorrow but she has no
idea), she has indicated to me that if she isn't out by Friday morning, she
is going to FedEx the tickets to me for Saturday afternoon delivery. (Yes,
I bought them, but she has the actual tickets. I will probably call
PostScript and see if we can resolve this without having to spend the money
on an emergency cross-border delivery charge, plus the additional $20 or $30
for a Saturday delivery!)

So....If she can't make it, I have an extra pair of tickets that I'm about
to waste. If anyone would like to go in her stead, please let me know
offlist. (Yes, keep in mind that I'm going to ask you to _buy_ them for
what I paid for them, which isn't too, too much to see two of your favourite
stars - ordinarily I'd probably have just given them to whomever asked, but
I'm not quite as "rich" as I was during the heady days of the dot-com boom).
But yes, if you do buy them from me, you will probably at least get a free
ride to Stratford with me, since I'm headed there anywhere, eh. :-)

Cheers,
W.

Yes, that's the one. Thanks.
Everyone: this is really worth reading if you haven't already read it (and
if you have it's worth it to read it again)

Just FYI to folks who've been interested: Mel is in atrociously poor
health and is hard put just to make it to work and back these days. I
have notified her housemate (a former FORKNI lister and fellow
Computer Geek) about the domain expiration; she's out of town right
now but will handle it as soon as she gets back. We're investigating
other hosting options as well. Also, Mel is extremely conscientious
about keeping backups, so even if the site did get wiped for some
reason, all is not lost.

Thank you to everyone who has expressed concern about Mel. The fanfic
site is still important to her, but as I'm sure everyone understands,
her physical situation is a far more pressing concern right now.

I was able to find Mel's email address--at least it hasn't bounced. I
told her we would help in any way we can. I do know she hasn't been
well for quite some time.

Network Solutions charges an arm and a leg for domain registration and
there are a lot of registrars that would charge less. If she decided to
keep the site a cheaper registrar would allow her to extend the
registration for more than 1 year so she wouldn't have to worry about it
as much if she wished to do that. Also, she could find a different ISP
to host the site also. Network Solutions charges $19.95 for 250 megs a
month and there are other ISP's that charge less.

And yes she needs to be more concerned about her health so hopefully we
could help with the web site then she wouldn't have to worry about it.

Could you ask Mel to consider turning the site over to someone else who has the
energy and time to start updating it again? That would remove that financial
expense and worry from her, and the fandom would benefit as well.

Just a thought,
