Dear all,
Firstly, may you all have a wonderful day, and I hope it is already so. I'd
very much like to play as well! There are a couple of things I must do before
I join, so can we PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE put off the war for just two weeks?
For this I send five pounds of virtual chocolate to ANYONE and EVERYONE who can
wait for just two weeks to start the war from the time this message is sent
out. I am very grateful for this slight delay. Again, have a wonderful day!

It's ok, Dory. Assuming Don can do it -- there are always a lot more bounces
and techie things in a war -- we will first have to call for scenario proposals
from potential warmistresses/masters. Then we have to get things fine-tuned,
allow a couple of weeks to collect email permissions from players (remember the
no real people without permission requirement from PSU that's in the rules), and
makes sure everybody's got their settings on Fkfic-l they way they want them.
There's no way this can be done in less than a month and I suspect we're
looking at more like six weeks assuming Don and I go straight into this.

Besides, there's generally a discussion of starting dates so we can let as many
people as possible fit the war into their schedules.

BTW, maybe I should mention for those who are new to the concept, that wars
actually take place on Fkfic-l and you don't have to be playing to read. It's a
large round robin. It's also supposed to be fun and to be humorous. Think of it
as a large, rowdy, online party.

Once the War is announced, most "factions" will start mentioning they want to
play. Just because your favorite character is LaCroix does not mean you must
play with the Cousins. You may just want to have fun with another faction, the
Ratpackers for example.

You'll sign up with the faction leaders (since Johnsie is MIA, I'll probably
lead the Ratpackers as second-in-uncommand, for example). Special lists are
often set up for war planning in each faction. Factions will have their own
rules for war posts. Some will have just one official posters, others take
turns.
Depending on the war rules, each faction or person may only be allowed a set
amount of posts per day so be sure to pay attention to your faction's rules.

Each faction seems to have its own personality. The Ratpackers, for examples,
are sort of part of the Mercs, only we are a little less serious; more easily
distracted by grilled cheese and chocolate; and more apt to get in very
bizarre situations.

Wars are NOT about the characters, they are about you and me - the fans. The
characters are controlled by the factions (for example, the Ratpackers control
Screed) and whichever faction has control of the character is the one you
must ask permission from before using a character in a War post. Factions tend
to have their own headquarters and areas. For example, depending on the rules
of the specific War scenerio, you'd have to ask before using the specific
Ratpack/Screed tunnels under Toronto (only they were collapsed and filled with
fruitcake during the last War so don't exist anymore).

This isn't a true role playing game. I'll be playing Libs/Libby/Libratsie,
for example. Or rather my Ratpack personal-ality.<g>

There's no reason to pick a faction right now. If you are a newbie, I'd
advise hanging back until things are more firm and you can get an idea of the
various factions' personalities, plus which factions are actually playing.

There doesn't have to be more than a year's difference in their ages.
And once acquired, the "little brother" (and "little/big sister") moniker
lasts a lifetime, believe me!
Every ghostly appearance in the ep involves living people (including Nick)
seeing the dead as they remember them. Joe saw Jordan in camouflage gear
with his wounds showing. The only way Joe could have a memory of Jordan
like that would have been if he had been in Vietnam and had either been
involved in the same action or seen his body before it was prepared for
burial and shipped stateside.

BTW, just to be clear, I do believe that the ghosts in Dead of Night were
"real."

There are no dumb questions! It's been a long time since the last war and
anyway, you can't be expected to know things you haven't been here for.

You participate by either writing posts in which you play yourself, or if you
wish, you can allow someone else to include you as a character in their post,
or both. Libby was right to mention that this is not an RPG as role player know
it. There are no points and no serious objectives. Attacks are supposed to be
fun for everyone, like the time I had some of the Nick and Nat Pack kidnapped
by a Merc and dumped in the monkey house at the Toronto Zoo. They played with
the monkies and had a good time before getting out. You more or less play
yourself, although you can do some exaggeration. For instance, even if your
computer skills aren't perfect, you can make your persona knowledgeable enough
to hack someone's system for war purposes. You can go rapelling down a building.
You just can't have non-mortal powers or be a vampire yourself. There are a few
exceptions for people who got into this before that rule was in place, like my
being supposed to be mortal but Larry Merlin's sister. (I wanted his computer
skills available.) Unless the war scenario this time forbids it, it's usually
possible to play as an independent.

I have found the site of the last war, War Eleven, to be quite helpful. It
is at
http://www.geocities.com/athens/7139/fkwar11factions.htm
Also helpful are the links on it. I assume the "rules" will be similar for
this war, then again, I could be wrong. Of course, if you really want to be
inundated with war information, just enter "War ____" "Forever Knight" (quotes
and all) into google's search engine, filling in the desired war number into
the blank. Hope this aids you, have a great day!

Because the "scenerio" for each War varies, so do the rules except for some
very basic things. Of course sometimes rules are very similar.

I'd urge anyone who is a newbie and is interested, to read not just sample
posts from one War, but several to get a better idea of what is wot.

I've been busy updating my links section with URLs to all the wars that
have been mentioned here recently. Currently, I have links to wars 1-4 and
8-11.

My Swiss cheese memory isn't very helpful at the moment -- one war (either
6 or 7) wasn't really a "war" as we're discussing here, but the "war" to
bring FK back for a third season -- a "Save Our Show" war. Which one was that?

And does anyone have *working* links for the other two missing wars (5 and
6 or 7)? I'd like to be able to offer a single place to find the URLs to
all the archived wars, to make it simpler for people to find them all.
