I have been watching SciFi for awhile, and after
some grumbling, I have several questions for
those of you on-list who are much wiser and savvy
than I.

=46or at least the last 5 years, we (FK Fandom)
have been communicating to the powers that be
that we would appreciate more quality
programming. One example of which is Forever
Knight. We would like shows that appeal to a wide
range of ages and very diverse demographics,
which Forever Knight did.

While watching Stargate SG-1, which is basically
all that's left on Scifi that even begins to meet
those requirements, I have been subjected to some
of the commercials advertising the nifty new
programs beginning on Thursday.

It seems that our answer from the powers that be
to give us more quality programming is a show
about people who are being as weird as possible
to get on TV and then a show that seems to be
oriented around the 'right to fart'. Again, their
response to our request for quality programming.

Obviously, five years of communicating with the
powers that be, they have no idea what 'quality
programming' and 'diverse demographics' mean.
Sorry about those terms=8A I realize that they are
more than one syllable words=8A

Anyway, I have decided that the only way left to
communicate these requirements would be to hit
them in the one place to which they have to pay
attention: the pocketbook.

I think the only thing we can do is watch these
(adjectives removed) programs and record those
companies that advertise on them and so support
them. Then, we start a campaign with these
companies asking that they stop supporting such
programming and only offer to support those
programs that are examples of 'quality
programming' and 'diverse demographics'. To make
our point, we, as a group, stop buying those
products advertised on these new programs and ask
our friends, neighbors and the strangers on the
street to do so as well.

I plan to 'watch' these programs with the mute on
and make a list of products advertised and then
stop using them. I also plan to find the owner
company of each product and write to them
explaining why I can no longer support them by
buying their merchandise. It's the only thing I
can think of to convey to the Scifi powers that
be what I think of their response to our polite
requests over the past five plus years.

My questions for the group at large:

1. Is one set of the 'bare bones' season one in
five years a 'good' response from Scifi showing
that they are, indeed, listening to us?

2. Does it make sense to continue to ask the same
people over and over again who are responsible
for the above response, as well as the new
programming for more Forever Knight?

3. Will going after their sponsors make as much a difference as I hope?

Hi all. Just had an odd FK moment to share.
This morning while flipping through the channels I happened upon the opening
of a telenovela, or soap opera, in Univision. The title? "Luciana & Nicolás".
I thought to myself that the UF or equally, um, uniquely perspectived
faction must be taking over Univision. Anywho, just had to share this one.

How does this relate to FK. Well, those of us who were lucky enough to have
witnessed the LaCroix and Schanke reading of Green Eggs and Ham at Syndicon
will probably never think of a Seuss book the same way again! *G*

Just thought I'd stir up some old memories!

My copy of the video is old, grainy, you can barely even see the panel,
but I will never, never forget LaCroix's "Could you, would you, with
a.... goat?"

Even my husband, not a FK fan (though I have tried, really!), comes in
to watch it and we both laugh till our sides hurt. Those who haven't
seen it - try to!

Is this where Nick & LC have been hiding?
Is this their new cover? Or an old cover from a few lives ago?

Is this some Vampire version of "The Odd Couple"?

As is mine!

I've shown it to people at work, who had no idea what the show was about or
who the actors were and they laughed! It really is a treat!

Considering that Luciana is a woman's name this must indeed be a very odd
couple (or has LC undergone sex change without us noticing)?
Hmmm......?

I can only offer an answer to this one: the pocketbook is the only spot that
WILL hurt when going after media businesses. They are, after all, businesses.
But don't just say 'I'. Point out that you belong to a large group that's
concerned about the deteriorating quality of their programming, mention that you're
going to be contacting their sponsors (THAT gets attention). Tell them you're
sick of cable TV all together and are going to cancel it if someone doesn't put
on decent programming (even if you're not really). Mention FK and a few other
favorites, make some suggestions for original series, etc., things that you
would like to see. Such things have worked before.

My brother literally fell off the couch laughing when he heard that. <G> I
just re-watched my copy the other night. Just a question, did they ever get
around to doing 'The Cat in the Hat?' ;)
