Ebay was being a bit fitzy, but you should be able to find it at this URL:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2568083467&category=18840&rd=1

Also, now that we've moved, we're actually a bit away from the fires. It's
really quite scary.

This would be a valid reason for the DVD's being somewhat grainy. You
can't put information (meaning added clarity, sharpness, etc) that wasn't
in the master copy on the DVD. If the master copy is grainy, as it would
be wth 16mm stock that was used in 1st season, then no matter how little
compression you use, you'll still have that. This is the same reason that
even with a digital satellite dish or cable 1st season in particular is
grainier than other shows.

I watched Nick Knight right after watching DK. In that version, Alyce
has an even longer, more eloquent plea for immortality.

And the improvement in sound is *great*; I haven't noticed any picture
problems (certainly nothing as bad as you can see in some episodes of
Buffy, especially from Seasons 1 & 2), and so the improved sound is a
huge bonus.

Even 2nd season looked grainy to me, compared to other T.V. shows. The odd
thing was that, at the time, I liked it like that. I was actually kind of
disappointed when USA took it over, and it lost the graininess. I thought
it looked too slick and too much like other T.V. shows.

Just wanted to let everyone know who are from Europe...

I've been watching the news on CNN, and Jean's word for it was
correct. Libby, if you haven't heard from your family members, it's
possible they're at a shelter. I didn't hear anything on the news about
that particular town, but a lot of areas are being evactuated.

The firemen say they don't have the fires contained, meaning that they
don't have a perimeter around the fire area. The Santa Ana winds are
blowing things every which way. They also don't have enough resources to
fight it and are asking for more fire trucks from neighboring states.

If anyone here is in the area, or if you have friends or relatives in the
area, and people are told to evacuate, please, please, heed the warnings.

Thanks to everyone for the well wishes. Here's my update:

We're in Northern San Diego County near what fire crews are dubbing the
Paradise Fire. At 3 a.m. Monday morning it was within a mile of our condo.
Fortunately, the Santa Ana winds had all but stopped and the area near out
place died down to hot spots. The rest of this particular fire began to move
away to the northeast and northwest of us this afternoon. We felt
comfortable enough this evening to unpack most everything from our vehicles.
Photos and various collections remain packed and the motorcycles are safe at
a friend's house til this is over. The cats are getting used to having their
carrier sitting in the living room, mouth wide open ready to eat them both.
*g*

With the road closures I haven't been able to get to my horse in Valley
Center, but the owners of the ranch assure me that the fire and smoke are
not a threat at this point. Should that change they have a stock trailer
standing by to take him and his barn mates to safety.

The casino in Valley Center where I work was hit Sunday. Only part of one
wall and one bank of slot machines were destroyed along with one out
building. No one was injured there and clean up will begin as soon as the
fire is contained. Unfortunately, most of the homes on the reservation were
destroyed. Rumor has it that the tribal hall was saved, though the threat in
the area is still too great to use it as a shelter.

There are two other fires in the County that are a much larger threat than
the Paradise Fire. One near my mother's, my in-law's and my
brother-in-law's homes. So far all are safe, but sleeping with one eye open.

And a blood red crescent moon hanging low in the sky is watching us all.

I'm sure my aunt, her ex, and the kids have heeded warnings (the adults live
close to each other so the kids can stay with which ever parent they want to).
There wasn't a message on my parents' answering machine, so my mother said
they probably haven't been evacuated, or my aunt just sent an e-mail.

Ironically, my house is now surrounded by the finest of my town's fire
department. A house across the street was totally gutted with in minutes. The
young
lady was awakened by her dog in TOTAL smoke and just managed to get out with
her glasses and what she was sleeping in. I gave her a pair of socks. I
happened to notice the sirens I heard were stopping in front of my house JUST
after I
sent my previous message. I ran to make sure it wasn't an ambulance for an
elderly couple several houses down from me, and all I could see was flames sort
of across the street.

Fire gear is now all over my yard and I'm getting a taste of the awful smoke
myself.

Dear all,
I am praying for you, and i will ask KoC to do the same. Plese, do evacuate
whenever the firefighters ask. Almost everything in a your home can be
replaced (including DVDs), but you can't. I heard that Gov. Napolitano will be
sending some of our firefighters, hopefully the ones with experience in the
Rodeo-Chedeski fire. Anyway, i will pray for you all. Have a great day, and
"stay safe!*

Subject: Fire Update

Good morning, all. Wanted to give you an update on my little corner of
the world.

Looking out the window the smoke is as thick as fog. Can't see the sky,
can't see the end of the block. The sun is showing as a reddish orange
ball in the fog. Even though I've got all the windows and doors closed,
the smoke still gets in. I'm sitting here with a wet bandana wrapped
around my face. Authorities say to stay in the house and run the AC to
filter the air. We've had it running for three days. No place to escape
from the smoke anywhere in San Diego County.

http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/fires/index.html#

This page has some very good information. Under the Multimedia heading
the satellite view gives you some idea of just how large these fires
are. Also, if you look under Multimedia, From UT Photographers, Photo
Gallery Sunday in Valley Center. The last photo is taken at the casino
where I work showing a horse being treated after being injured in the
fire.

It's been 177 days since we've had rain.

According to the channel I'm watching, the Paradise fire has moved even
farther from me. It's moved to the La Jolla Indian Reservation. (not to
be confused with the City of La Jolla) It's getting real close to
Palomar Mountain.

The police are telling people that if they find bodies in the recently
burned areas to call 911 immediately. They're finding far too many
people who waited to long to leave and became trapped in their vehicles.

I've been in contact with Andi T., Jean Graham and Teresita Tazon. All
are fine. To those of you sharing the fires of Hades with me, be safe. I
seem to remember a couple San Diegans being on the war 11 leaders list
with me. Are you guys okay?

You know you've been watching too much Forever Knight when .... you are looking
at the website for the hotel for Bouchercon 2004 (a convention for mystery
fans). Their newly opened restaurant and cocktail bar is called Azure -- and you
immediately visualize the restaurant set for Valentine's Day, with LaCroix and
Natalie at one of the tables. :)
