I saw this ep last night. I was briefly shocked at how different he
looked - but, oh, it was still good. He looked in incredibly good shape.
But, I have to say, I thought the short hair (I know the long hair was
never his own, but I've only seen pics where his hair was somewhat
short, not this short) made his eyes stand out more - I never realized
HOW big they were. I dare say... he looks better with the short hair.

Well, I guess that I must not be ignoring you anymore.

I suppose that I'm just a big teddybear who can't hold a grudge to save his
life. Just call it a random act of kindness related to my impending return
to Toronto after seven years away (it's not official yet, but I'll let
"y'all" know when I know for sure). I sure wouldn't want my fellow
listmembers thinking that Cousin Will has no backbone and doesn't keep his
word, so I'll just attribute this to the "Perky" in "Perky Cousin Will".
I've been on this list for ten years now, and I try to help my fellow
listfolk when I can, no matter who they are.

>(sorry for spelling mistakes I don't really know French)

Don't worry, it's the correct spelling. I reckon they don't teach French
down there in New Jersey as a general rule. Well, Spanish is Greek is Greek
to me (no offense to anyone who's Greek, but it seemed like a good example
because: 1) it's a saying; 2) it's not part of the standard curriculum in
Canada or the USA), so I guess that it's just a matter of being familiar
with what you were taught when you were growing up, i.e., don't worry, you
won't be graded on your French spelling. :-)

>It has been said in several fanfics (various
>authors) that it was LC's kind of special pet name for Nick,

Indeed it should be, because it means "My son".

As for where Uncle may (or may not) have said it, I seem to recall that he
has (but as always, I could be mistaken), but I don't recall where. Oh
wait...I recall it in a flashback, possibly right after his "creation". I
vaguely recall that the tone was slightly loving, which suggests an earlier
flashback, but as we all know, Uncle has a way of being "slightly loving"
even when he's about to kill someone, so if someone remembers for sure, I
for one would love to know, now that Amanda here has gotten me curious.

Cheers,

That article must have been written months ago, because construction has been
well under way for at least a month now and the water tower, as I reported
earlier, was removed just before the Blackout hit. The east side of the building
is covered in scaffolding.

I'm pretty sure he called him "my child", but I don't know if he
specifically called him "my son." LC referred to Nick as "my child" when
he was on the radio in Dark Knight." He also said something in Curiouser
and Curiouser in French, but I think it was "mon enfant" (i.e. - my child).

Oh, I just remembered. In Sons of Belial, he said, "Nicholas is my
creation, my son."

Two questions about the episode "Dying to Know You":
 1. What does Nat's shirt say when she's in the morgue towards the end? (the
part where Nick and the psychic finally figure out that the rich guy is behind
his wife and daughter's kidnapping/killing) I *think* it's a University of
Virginia shirt, but I'm not sure.
 2. Same ep, same scene... Nick asks Natalie if the victim was asphyxiated and
Nat nods. Then he asks if there was anything unusual. Natalie replys, "Richard
was going to run some tests on the substances found in her body, maybe it's in
here." And she picks up a folder. (Or something like that.) Was she referring
to her brother Richard, or another Doctor? Also, if Richard worked for the
Crown Prosecuter's Office, would he have authority to ask for tests to be done?

Okay. I'm going back to lurking now.

I can't recall any examples, but it's been a while. You can listen for
it, yourself, when you hear them speaking French on the show; it isn't
pronounced the way it's spelled (and you did spell it right); the L is
silent, and it's pronounced so as to rhyme with 'lease'.

Hope this helps!

I don't pretend to be any great French expert, but isn't "mon fils"
pronounced "mon FEE"?

OK, I'm not fluent, but I did study French and I did live in Quebec for a while.
The basic rule of thumb is that the last letter of any word is silent, unless
it's a c, r, f, or l. 'Fils' is pronounced 'fil', skipping the 's'. The 'l'
is partially swallowed, so it's hard to hear unless you're acustomed to it.
(As for 'mon', the 'n' isn't technically pronounced-- the 'o' is said up in the
nose, giving it an 'n'-like ending.)
As for whether or not LC said it? I dunno. Guess I'll have to go on an FK
spree and find out!

we sure need a native speaker in here. ;) I was certain it's spoken [fis]
(short i) and I looked it up in my Petit Larousse - that's what it says:
[fis]. Granted, Canada may differ from France, but that's what I remembered
hearing from native speakers. ;-) Now we'd better find LC saying it.

1. What does Nat's shirt say when she's in the morgue towards the end?

BTW, I believe Nat wears it again in False Witness, during the popcorn scene.
It's a political slogan, which reads, "Facism is not Racism."

No, she isn't a Wahoo! :-) (Slang for UVA students.)

2. Was she (Nat) referring to her brother Richard, or another Doctor?

I thought she was referring to a lab technician.

According to Catherine Disher in an interview with the new-defunct Knightly
News (newletter of former FK fanclub), it said "racism is pure ignorance." 2.

Okay... Thanks!
But *would* Richard (Nat's brother) have the authority, as a prosecuting
attorney, to order tests on a body? I wouldn't think so, but I really don't
know!

Did she pick the shirt? Was it her very own? Was/Is it her own sentiment?
I think I read somewhere that someone else choose their clothing
until third season when Mr. Wyn Davies took someone shopping and
showed them what his character would be wearing. Is this true?

Well, ok two...

First, at work we have this wipe off board where the supervisor puts
everyone's lunch time. Some days he puts an inspirational quote.
Today's made me think of Nick (or something Nat would say to him).
"It is the ability to choose which makes us human."
                                   -Madeline L'Engle

Second, I was looking at the tvguide online this afternoon and on
Thursday 9/11 on STARZ True Stories channel there is the miniseries
"The Last Days of Pompeii" It is a three part miniseries starting at
9.15am. I think it stars Lawrence Olivier. I would record it but my
vcr isn't hooked up to the digital cable.
