I'm on digest so I'm always a bit slow to jump in... Regarding whether Ger
could still play Nick in the movie we wish they would make... :) Of
course! It's so easy... They'd need to correct that horrible final
episode of 3rd season so the fact that many of the the vampires look older
could be attributed to the vampire virus. And of course Nick would have
been in a coma for several years hallucinating such things as the final
episode of 3rd season, while Natalie had spent those several years looking
for a cure, so of course she's older too. :)

Subject: Rat Race (Toronto)

I had a quiet spell at work today, and was browsing the company's news
archives, when I suddenly woke up very abruptly on spotting the above
article header! (They list articles by title followed by originating
office.) Naturally, I *had* to look up the relevant article, as I already
had visions of thousands of the wee lil' ratsies racing through the streets
of Toronto, with Screed spurring them on (by pouncing on and draining the
slowest ones, yuck!) to greater endeavour.

The actual article was nearly as good: (selected highlights follow)

On Thursday, April 25, 1996, at 7:00 p.m., join 2,000 corporate "rats" at
First Canadian Place Shopping Centre, for a wild and wacky fun run called
the 1996 Cantel Bay Street Rat Race, in support of Toronto's Ronald McDonald
House. It's a 5 kilometre scurry through the streets of downtown Toronto,
and it's the best thing to hit springtime since the tax refund.

Can't Run 5K? Then why not walk? This is a fun run which means you don't
have to be fast, just breathing with a heartbeat when you cross the finish
line! Medical staff on site.

Rat Racers must wear proper business attire and carry the official Cantel
Bay Street Rat Race Briefcase. Score some comfortable groovy
threads--jackets and shirts are required, as are ties and pants for the men.
(Females can chose between pants and a skirt). Running shoes are strongly
encouraged!

-----------

Movers & Shakers (individuals) - for rats who like to scurry solo
Corporate Bonding (teams of 3, like "3 blind mice") , also a prize awarded
to the company with the most corporate teams entered
Early Retirement (50+) : for the spriest male and female rodents
Media Challenge : for those media guys who squeak to the finish line

A "Big Cheese Cocktail Party and Awards Ceremony" and schmooze-fest
immediately follows the race at First Cdn. Place Shopping Centre (Bay/King)

-----------------------------------

(We resume our usual service here.)

Hmmm.... just as funny. Visions of the Ratpack, clad in various
disreputable 'sporting' or 'running' outfits and ancient sneakers joining
in, with intent to accidentally on purpose jostle the runners and relieve
them of surplus shiny pretties (you know, the mobiles, watches, jewellery,
wallets, etc), and passing them down a convenient manhole to Screed. A
post-race invasion of the 'Big Cheese Cocktail Party' will then be followed
by the outbreak of World War III under the streets of Toronto as the RatPack
attempts to divvy up the spoils of the day! Hmmmm.... 2 questions for the
Toronto-ans on the list - would it be dark by 7pm in April? And was it a
one-off, or do they do it on an annual basis?

And did you note the date? April 1996? Wasn't the show still on the air
then, if not in production?

And Yes, there is a very silly piece of fanfic waiting to be written! Be my
guest! And if medical personnel are on hand, that means Natalie should be
there.... Aaahhh! Not the infamous Screed and his beloved Doc!

Aw, Libs, you dropped the ball! I was also joking - I was giving you an

That does, unfortunatly, disqualify Screed himself. (Poor guy-- I'm sure he was
looking forward to collecting the pretty trophy!)

I don't know if Screed was there for all three years or not, but he probably
snuck in to find his nice comfy Screedy cellar and to check out the local rat

They do. My parents have one. I've read that they're not as good quality,
especially the vcr part. And they're larger. I have a dvd player (recently
bought) and it's quite thin. It's probably 1/3 to half the thickness of a vcr.
If you want an affordable one look at places like Target, Walmart, Kmart. I
bought mine at BJ's (sorta like a Costco, Sam's Club....) and it was around
$83 including taxes.

i read a story one time and i don't remember who wrote it or the title. It's
about Nick and Schanke investigating bombings. They go into a building with
a bunch of uniformed officers and natalie, and a bomb goes off. Nick and Nat
are trapped...and when they get them out it's during the daytime. Great
story--any ideas on the title or who wrote it? i'd like to find the story again.

This is the excellent story by Dorothy Elggren, entitled "Somehow."
It's followed up by the sequel, "Somewhere". Everyone, go read them
immediately! They're available from Dorothy's website,

The same could be said for the image that Caddywhacker brings to mind. But
personally I like the "Knight Shift"

As for Trekkies.. some of us old enough might remember that Trekkies was a
designation not made up by fans of Trek, but by non-fans meaning it as a
put-down. The proper term in Trek fandom (this was prior to Next Generation)
was Trekker.

I doubt there will be a movie, but I can see ways around Mr. Davies
real age.
What if Nicholas had only been half-successful in his attempt at a
cure in Last Knight?

What if he only partially crossed back over.
That he is now stuck in some bizzare twilight world between mortal
and immortal? Growing older. Able to to tolerate some sunlight, but
still weakened by it (think a case of sunstroke). Struck with human
infirmities (Nick in bifocales) and slow to heal from injuries , but
still chained by an insatiable thirst for human blood.....
It would fit with the "tortured soul" theme in FK.

I've seen Nigel Bennet, Lisa Ryder and Ben Bass in movies/television
shows shot within the last year or two. I think they could all still
pass without much difficulty.
What might actually be fun is to put Mr. Davies in deliberate
makeup. Exaggerate his age, as if Nick is now growing older much
faster than normal since he is trapped between the two worlds....

                Could be a fun movie.

Finally, we get to see the cover of the FK DVD boxset! Barnes and Noble
posted a picture today:

General vampire fans are definitely going to notice FK and be interested
(sales boost!). I love the cover though...very eerie looking.

On another note, FK is already at a sales rank of #669 at Amazon.com and it
was just listed today!

Excitedly,
Kristin

Any one out there have knowledge of where I can get a copy of Ger's Ghost
Mom. I love this movie and somehow my DVD vanished out of the jacket. I've
looked on ebay, Barns and Noble, Half.com, and Amazon to no avail.

Actually, I was just trying to start a possibly very silly conversation.

Ebay has several very cheap DVD copies. Type in "Bury Me In Niagara" or
"Geraint Wyn Davies" (check titles and descriptions).
