I had another thought

Many times nick has been shot
if the wounds heal so fast, does that mean that the bullets are still inside
him?

or does his "Muntent healing factor" push them out
or do they get metabolized some how

(that's a hell of a way to get your daily source of iron)

When and how exactly in the wars did the Inca get
dubbed Juan Valdez?

I don't remember the Inca being given a name in
Black Buddha, but I seem to recall that in fanfic
he is referred to by the same name as the last Inca
emperor. (Whose name I can't remember because
I have cottage cheese where my brain used to be)

I always thought LaCroix was simply making the point with Nick that the
Enforcers were out there and that if Nick continued to play with mortals he
was liable to find himself on the wrong end of a stake.

<snip>When and how exactly in the wars did the Inca get dubbed Juan

Tracy Sue Morris started that and established him as a law partner of
'Valdez, Montoya, and Montalban' in her fanfic. I think it was with an
out-of-War story called 'How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love The
Evil Pink Shirt.' Since she was one of the people who came up with the
llama idea in War 11, that's the Inca that was used.

Nancy Bonilla/Warlocke uses Amaru as the Inca's name. If I recall
correctly, he appeared in War 9, in several Incarnate posts by the
Pardoe.

Actually, during the last War's barfight, there was a scene Tracy Sue
did using several fanfic Incas, joking that that's why he never got
tired of chasing Vachon in 500 years.

Molecular biology and vampires...what fun ;-)
My take on this is that FK vampires, due to the engineering of
their symbiotic retrovirus (The Fix), enjoy a very high pain
threshold due to huge levels of dopamine in their systems.

Wow. That's good enough to make you think vampires could be real.
At least FK vamps, who fit in with science quite well here. Keep
working on that theory for wooden stakes.
And no cheese needed!

BTW, I wanted to let you all know that I passed my dissertation

after 6 years. I can't beleive it.

Yep; in Father Figure, Nat remarks that his injury should have been
"healed and sealed" almost immediately. I believe the only reason she
got the bullet out was for evidence. And there are lots of people alive
today who still have bits of bullets or shrapnel inside them, so why
should Nick be special? Ok, I know he IS special, but what I meant is
... oh, never mind.

And I think the only thing he does metabolize is blood, so that kind of
rules out lead.

Subject: The Enforcers you and I know are wimpy goons--here's why

From the realm of physics, biomechanics, & bad acting...

Whilst engaging in the dangerous pastime of thinking, I pondered the
strange behavior of the Enforcers in that they do their "offing" of community
offenders with stakes.

Now, given the relative physical strength of the average FK vampire, and
the fact that the Enforcers themselves are supposed to be...mmmm--what was it?
Three times stronger/faster? Can't remember the exact details from "Unreality
TV," but if someone does, please feel free to chime in. At any rate, the
point is that, with the established givens, an Enforcer should be able to rip
an offender's frigging head right off, a la Predator style (human offenders =
tissue paper, no contest). So, why mess with a silly stake?

In addition, for all that they are supposed to be these nastybad awfuls
that strike fear into the hearts of the FK vampire community if they do the
no-no of exposure/disclosure, they come across in U TV as brain-dead goons!
The reanimated dead in Resident Evil had more cognitive ability! Even a
preying mantis has better stalking/pouncing skills than those mush-heads.

Okay, okay: I realize that the on-screen portrayal of the Enforcers
suffered a great deal from those stunt guys' inability to act... However, they
were such an *original* vampire concept, unique to the FK universe, that I
dearly wish they could have lived up to their potential of extreme, mad-dog
killers. Once loosed on a victim, there's no reasoning with them--it's you or
them, like vampire Terminators. They could have been carouches that fed upon
something really feral for first hunger, like a wolf or lynx. Or a mutation
of the vampire virus, hence their oversized canines. Just...with a bigger
brains than a saurapod.

(Sigh.) In my dreams, FK still lives. And I'm a writer for the series.
God, talk about a job one could love...

Oh, boy! I have a mental image of Nick trying to go somewhere by plane now
that they're so extra careful about screening, setting off metal detectors
because he has bullets in his body, and having to whammy not only the
inspectors, but also much of the line behind him. With his luck, some of them
will turn out to be resistors, too. :)

Well, as somebody else said, there are mortal-type
people walking around with bullets in them. Also
people with steel plates, rods etc. I think I remember
hearing in the news about a man with a steel plate
who got stopped by security who wouldn't take his
word that it was a steel plate, and now he travels
with a note from his doctor. So Nat could just
sign something on some official-looking stationary
and voila: World Traveler Nick. (Globe-Trotter

Why would nick need a note?
he's a cop, he should be able to slide past security

Oh, no he couldn't! If anything, they are going to check him extra careful to
make sure he is who he says he is (which could raise all sorts of extra
problems, huh? LOL!) Some of my co-workers now have special security clearances
and background checks due to our jobs having become somewhat connected with
national security. Now when they show their ID, they are automatically searched
THOROUGHLY at airports. Remember, fake IDs are common.

> but why would he go through security anyway

Knowing Nick, he'd do it just because he is suppose to. But I have a feeling he
would fly unless it was job connected or something where flying on his own might
be suspicious - such as if his office was to book the flight for him.

My dad carried shrapnel in his leg, a souvenir of WWII, which used to set off
the metal detectors in airports (that was back in the late 70s). When that
happened they'd take him off to a side room and either frisk him or scan him
with the wand---it would go off over the site of the metal shards, and they
would see he didn't have a weapon there. Later on, when he received a
pacemaker, he was forbidden by his doctor to go through the scanner because it
could disrupt the pacemaker's functions, so he would just tell them they had to
hand-search him, and they would.

I'm sure Nick would subject himself to all this just to be like an ordinary
human---what could be more mortal than going through the tedium of airport
security? If he had to stand in line for an hour, it would just be another
penance. <g> I'm sure he would apologize to the security people for making them
do extra work, too.

(Ta to McLisa for permission to post)Respond directly to: marykroll@i....... In
the real world, I make goat milk soap for a living and have undertaken the quest
to make a Ribena soap (Ribena being the blackcurrant syrup used as stage blood).
A particularly provacitive UF chat has inspired an entire series of Forever
Knight themed soaps. The plan, thus far, is to have a soap for each character.
For this, I turn to my fellow Knighties, Natpackers, Cousins, Ravenettes,
Vaquieros, etc for ideas. When you're thinking about your favorite character,
think about shape/design, color, scent, possible additives, and a category I
call "absolutely not's". No idea is too silly and they are all very
appreciated. If you find yourself with tons of inspiration, I even have a
simple spreadsheet you can use. Please also indicate if you might be interested
in purchasing said soap (these are not pre-orders, just a way for me to guage
possible interest before I spend money on supplies). ktk!

I am one of the above mentioned persons. I still have small bullet
fragments in my right arm from a shooting accident many years ago.
Occasionally, one works its way close enough to the surface that it causes a
slight infection and the body kicks it out, but for the most part, they're
just there.

Good question. Guess which of the below answers is correct:

(1) His leather coat is made from special vampire cows; consequently, it
possesses a unique healing quality.

(2) He has applied so much Teflon spray to his clothes that they're now
self-healing.

(3) The wardrobe mistress called in sick that day.

(4) His clothes are actually full of holes, but he's hypnotizing everyone
to think that they're not. Good thing, too, or we'd know that he's wearing
stuff from the 70's.

(5) We're looking at Nick and you're thinking about holes in his clothes?
Are you okay, honey?
