Subject: Philcon in December

Hi all,

I just wanted to know if there is anybody on the
list going to Philcon in December (Check out their
site http://www.philcon.com ) It's the oldest Sci-Fi
Convention in the country, held in Philadelphia.
I'm trying to see if there are other Forever
Knight fans going to be there so that we can all get
together. Also is there anyone near Virginia Beach who
could give a lift to Vickie Holt (author of "Vengeance
is Mine"). She wants to go but has no way there.
Dragon's Lair Studios will be there with LOTS of
FK items and also a special package deal of Vickie's
book and the CD or Cassette audio Drama.

Let me know off list please!

Are we talking about LaCroix here? If so, I think he'd
be more inclined to the Branagh 'HenryV' or the
Ian McKellen 'Richard III'. Also, it's not Shakespeare,

That's general vampire lore. I don't think they applied the film part to FK. You
might be thinking of the other vampire series in which Ger had a recurring role
(sorry, can't remember the name of it, but IIRC it had to do with Dracula and the
descendants of the original Van Helsing in modern-day...well, 1980's...Germany).
I think they tried to do the mirrors but were inconsistent with it.

There was much (and frequent) discussion, back in the day, on the Vachon Loop on
what the "D" stood for, so this is undoubtedly where this originally stemmed
from. Dionysus (also called Bacchus), in Greek mythology, is a god of fertility
of nature, associated with wild and ecstatic religious rites; in later
traditions, he is a god of wine who loosens inhibitions and inspires creativity
in music and poetry.

I think you can expand Vachon's influence to include fanfic!

Of course, we all assume the "J" stands for Javier, but that's not necessarily
so. Nick Knight is not Nicholas deBrabant's birth name -- and he hasn't always
been a "Nick" in all his former identities, right? -- so there's really no
reason to assume that Javier D. Vachon is Vachon's birth name. The "J" in J.D.
Valdez can just as easily be Juan or Jorge or Juno or Junipero or Jasper or....
And, it might not be anything at all. Maybe "J.D." is just some character out
of a book ... an old dime store novel about J.D. Dunne of the Magnificent
Seven.... Just a thought. Fun to speculate, and I'll admit to usually using
some "J" name in combination with "Vachon" just for reader association in fanfic
whenever I'm doing pre-Toronto stories.

For Vachon, I'd have to say ... those gritty black and white 1930/1940 movies.
Vachon actually quotes from The Maltese Falcon in My Boyfriend Is A Vampire. I
think he'd get off on the dames in those flicks -- strong, yet still needing the
reluctant hero to swoop in and rescue them.

I might even go so far as to say Casablanca, The Philadelphia Story, and The
African Queen, even those if those get a bit romantic.

If Vachon's much of a reader, I bet he's read everything Dashell Hammett ever
wrote. These days, he might be into Michael Connelly stuff (the new movie
"Blood Work" with Clint Eastwood is based on a book of his, and it's not even
close to his best piece of fiction!)

Screed on the other hand ... hmm, bet he's a huge fan of anything by Kenneth
Branagh! And, let's not forget Dr. Doolittle! Then there's The Birdman Of
Alcatraz, Mary Poppins, and Stuart Little. As far as Screed's interest in books
-- I bet he's into Winnie The Pooh. Oh, and The Hobbit. ;-)

I thought he *had* used some form (be it a nickname or a language variation)
of Nicolas for every identity and just changed the last name. It has been a
constant for him. Of course I may be wrong? If I missed one, I'd love to

Fleur refers to him as Nicolas (i.e., French pronunciation.) He and Janette --
whom Nick introduces to his mother and Fleur by that name --apparently keep
the same first name throughout. LC is using Lucien as a French form of Lucius
in the same episode. (It's not really the precise equivalent. Lucien is French
for Lucianus, a common later Latin derivative of Lucius. However, I'm under
the impression that Lucius itself isn't in use in French.)

Yes! Paul is just so snazzy! Let's cast Deborah as Della Street, and of course,
Nigel has to play the prosecuting attorney - that Hamilton Burger guy.

hmmm... I'm not sure about him as Connor MacLeod. I am a die-hard
Highlander fan, so I guess I'm a little biased. I LOVE Christopher Lambert
as Connor, so it would be hard for me to see anyone else in the role. Then
again, if it had to be re-cast, Ger would definitely be at the top of my
list of alternates!

As for the Scottish accent, you have to go see this hilarious outtake where
Ger does use a Scottish accent. He's making fun of Nigel, but still. I
crack up every time I see it. Trust me, it's worth the wait on the
