Subject: Re: SciFi, FK, and FYI

Susan brought up some GREAT points!

Although I haven't done any conventions this year, I normally do several a year.
I normally have a friend or two with me to split costs (I'm a guest, but still
have to pay for travel, room and board, alas). We sometimes drag along a VCR and
FK tapes, and if the con allows room parties, throw one on Saturday night!

We put in FK episodes and sometimes decorate the room slightly in an FK theme.
The Ratsie Wot Kilt Screed normally makes an apparance, but you don't have to
have an actual prop to have FK fun!

I usually carry Kickstart the Knight flyers with me. My publisher, if he's at
the con, won't let me wear t-shirts at his table (I have to dress ... well,
sexier <g>), but at night he doesn't care so I usually will have on an FK
t-shirt.

If you don't have local cons, have you thought about starting an FK club in your
area? Or mingling with the local science fiction club?

How do you do this? See about few rooms to "rent." Often libraries will have
public rooms, some businesses will. Or check with local bookstores and
restaurants. Place a want ad in the paper looking for other fans and simply meet
informally at a restaurant if anyone is interested.

If you feel "safe" with the people, maybe the next meeting could be at someone's
home where videos could be watched.

Although I haven't seen one advertised in a while, listmembers used to have "FK
parties" where people would travel to their homes for a weekend of fun. I went
to one in Dallas once and had a blast!

All these are places to ask people to WRITE to the appropriate people. E-mails
DO get deleted. Phone calls can be very annoying (the last thing we want to do
is annoy) and there's no way to guarantee your message is being taken down.

What do you write in a letter? Keep it as non-fannish as possible. Tell a little
about yourself. I normally state I'm an administrative assistant and
professional writer, and am impressed with the show's scripts. I ask if any
thought has been given to a tv movie.

I've even been known to write letters for off-line FK fans to sign (and a few
on-line ones) who are uncomfortable writing their own. I put the letter in THEIR
words.

Form letters are form letters and quite obvious, so don't copy a letter a
hundred times for your friends to sign! ;-)

He reacted to it like a drug (He went on a "TRIP")

Well, as for Last Knight . . . you guys have some great theories! I, myself,
don't have any, on account of the great cloud of denial that envelops me
whenever I think about the show . . . as everyone says, it is *majorly*
depressing. And I've only seen it once. I'm glad I was at work monday, and
didn't tape it.

Anyways, to pull away from this sad sad subject, I just watched Dark Knight
1 and it was like I'd never seen it before! I think I've only seen it once
before, but looking at it again, I realize that, as pilots go, it was a
really good one. I also noticed the huge ambiguity surrounding Nick and
Nat's relationship even then. She seems to get a little upset when he tells
her that he kissed Elise (was that her name? the woman at the museum?). It
makes me wonder, and if I were seeing that for the first time I would think
they had something going on (Nick and Nat, I mean) . . . also, didn't
Janette have the Raven for a while before Nick was there? I was under the
impression that she had . . . I was just wondering about that . . . anyways,
other than LaCroix's shocking wardrobe -- the cape in the flashback is one
of the most horrible things i have ever seen, almost bela lugosi type -- i
loved the episode. I forgot how good it was . . .

anyways, there we go! just made up for having not posted during my vacation
in florida . . .

which reminds me, emily, i love your theory about everyone ending up on an
island in the carribean drinking blood wine!

Five) are the flyers current?
Six) anyone going to gencon?

You can go online & there tons of programs for down loading MPG's

Once the program is loaded you can down load it for FREE

The ending was left to be interpreted in many ways by the viewer and I
think Kristin's theory could be a possible conclusion. They don't
actually show what La Croix did with the stake but I can buy the idea
that La Croix may have staked Natalie since Nick and Natalie were so
close he knew Nick may not be able to do it himself. I would think that
if TPTB were to ever make a movie or bring back the series one day that
they would need to leave the viewer thinking Nick could still be alive
or there would not be a need to make one. Nick did not want Natalie to
live in the darkness like he does so he did not want her to cross over
and be one of them. La Croix took over knowing Nick would have a hard
time doing it and did the deed (staking Natalie) so this would not
happen to her. Then I think that Nick and La Croix left for their next
destination. It was time for them to move on. Janet

Subject: Forever Knight on DVD Update/Addresses

Greetings,

As most of you know, we have been pushing for Forever Knight on DVD,
recently, by voting at this site:

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/index.cfm

The purpose of the site is to get more TV shows released on DVD. How do
they plan to pull it off? Well, they plan on having a working
relationship with the studios. The site has users who come and register
on it (for free) and show interest in their favorite TV shows. They then
let the studios know how many people want to see the shows they own
released on DVD, and how they want them (season sets, best of, or
individual episodes). Once the studios can see the interest in their
product they will strongly consider releasing more TV product on DVD.
That is why it's so important to vote there. FK's current position is
#4. Thanks to all who have voted and if you are new, click the link
above to vote. It's easy, free, and most importantly, it can lead to
Forever Knight on DVD!

Now for the updates. Currently, the guys at that site are still trying
to work in a meeting with Columbia Tristar/Sony. However, CTS keeps
blowing them off. They are really thick-headed and we must get through
to them. So, perhaps they would pay more attention if the fans started
writing more *snail* letters asking for the series on DVD. Imagine how
good it would look for Forever Knight to have a nice pile of letters
coming in on Tristar/Sony's desks. Here's the addresses:

Columbia House Video Library
1400 Fruitridge Avenue
Terre Haute, IN 47811

Columbia Tri-Star Home Video
2800 South River Rd
Des Plaines, IL 60018
(847) 699-6340

Columbia Tri-Star Home Video
22W645 Armitage Avenue
Glen Ellyn, IL 60137
(630) 469-0411

Columbia Tri-Star Home Video
2722 Kenwood Drive
Duluth, GA 30096
(770) 813-0067

Remember, these are video/dvd specific. You can still write the main
addresses for Sony/Tristar too. You can find them on the "Save the
Knight" section on my site.

There's also Columbia DVD's e-mail address which has real people forward
your messages to the main department. This is also very important to
write to:

dvd@c.......

Thanks to all the fans for their continued support! Remember, it takes
*all* of us to get what we want!

Long live the Knight,
Kristin

Subject: I Could Have (Watched Ger Dance) All Night

This year is the 50th Anniversary of the opening of the Stratford
Festival of Canada and the best of the Stratford Alumni were invited
back to this important year to perform at this year's festival.

Geraint Wyn Davies opened his 2 month stint as Henry Higgins in My Fair
Lady this past Sunday at the Festival. He has a very tough act to follow
as Colm Feore (Walken in Blood Money) has just finished his two months
in that same role to rave reviews.

Ger's performance has not, as of yet, been reviewed in any of the major
newspapers but it was obvious that the sold-out audience was very
pleased as he and Cynthia Dale (Eliza Doolittle) were accorded an
enthusiastic standing ovation when the closing bows were taken.

This is the 3rd time in 3 months that I have seen this production and it
is much to the credit of the cast and the playwright that I am still
enjoying it immensely. The dancers have not lost their drive and the
familiar songs are still sung with enthusiasm.

The supporting characters seem to be coping smoothly with a different
Henry Higgins. Ger's energy level is at least as great as Colm's and
indeed, in a fit of exuberance, he swept his co-star off her feet and
carried Cynthia off-stage after the closing bows.

Ger was still very much on Cloud Nine at the post-play reception as he
received hugs and applause from fellow actors and the other attendees.
He told me that this performance was the first time he had gone through
the entire play with the rest of the cast. Up until now, he had been
rehearsing only his own scenes with the director and other actors as
required.

For those of you who have tickets, be prepared for a most enjoyable 3
hours. Also, don't forget to check out the display near the top of the
stairs opposite Aisle 9 in the Festival Theatre. You won't regret it.

I converted my SO to FK and he just watched Last Knight. Prior to my
reading the conversations here, I had talked to him about his impressions on
the show, Since I am in denial it exists! ;-)

I figured (and asked) to put his thoughts here as well to offer yet ANOTHER
opinion on the insufferable FKLK!

So here is his thoughts and mind you he knows nohting about what I have read
on this list....(and I still claim it don't exist! The show, not the list!
Grin)
.......

You asked, I watched...

What did I think of FK-LK?

Lots of mixed feelings. Since I've had to sit down and watch every episode
for running it off to tape from our PVR, I feel *somewhat* qualified to
make the following statements.

...and they are in no particular order...

As a cliffhanger, the episode holds together.

As a series ender. Bzzt! Wrong answer, thank you for playing, we have a
nice version of the home game for you to play - Spike over here will show
you where to go.

Natalie is *clearly* alive (though I didn't see the 'moving hand' I'd heard
about). The whole episode is about faith. Nick is having faith that
Natalie will recover. LaCroix is clearly indicating she's alive but, in his
opinion, won't be. So she's breathing at the end and we're really NOT SURE
if she'll make it. It's not like Nick's intuition is 100% right.

As a clip show, well, I'm not fond of clip shows, but the 'bite montage'
was well placed and looked pretty good. I mean, I understand why you would
put the clips in the show, but to someone who's just watched the entire
series, it felt like being hit over the head with reminders (Ok boys and
girls, remember THIS, and THIS, and THIS?) If this is a finale, you're
doing it for the people who followed the show - you're not trying to win
new viewers so why go so all over the top to explain all that back story?
(Ok, we know why - probably a reduced budget for less film).

No wonder Natalie wants to come over. She's developing a "Jessica - Murder
She Wrote" complex in the 3rd season - knowing far too many of the corpses
coming her way.

Nick dead? I don't think so. After all, he nailed LaCroix with a flaming
pointy two-by-four in the series opener and HE didn't die... And given
Nick's endgame confession there about how he felt about LaCroix, I wouldn't
be a bit surprised if LaCroix did NOT follow through.

So let's see. Tracy is gone, Nick and Nat are simply in Big Trouble.
Jeanette has shown that there is a cure but Nick will probably need it
administered differently (doesn't seem to be able to control himself at the
right moments).

Yeah, I have to agree. There's a 2-hour TV movie waiting to be made that
fixes all of that. But if Sci-Fi gets their hands on it, based on their
recent announcements, they'll re-cast and "re-imagine" the whole thing.
(Quantum Leap without Scott Bakula??? Battlestar Galactica without Hatch
and Benedict????)

they had been given by playing with that tension on the set.

Personally, I think Last Knight is a mind-control experiment by the

To second the question, anyone else going? I am
*probably* taking the train (pray Amtrak doesn't tank
between now and then--geez, they bail out worthless
airlines and can't bring themselves to give the
railroad a few measley million) and I'll be there
Thurs-Sunday. I haven't bothered registering for the
con itself yet but I probably will, though pretty much
all I do is the dealer floor. But come on, I saw NO
FK stuff last year, it's one last big blowout in
Milwaukee before the whole deal moves to Indianapolis
next year....join the fun! (I'd offer to bring tapes,
but unfortunately mine are all lousy six or seventh
generation copies. So see, someone needs to bring
some. Even the bootleggers don't have them!) If
someone decides to have an FK get-together, let me
know and I'll drag along any Star Wars fans I can
grab.

Jennifer

How very dog in the mangerish of them. I wonder why they are so determined
to ignore Forever Knight's fans.

It might help to write the letters by hand. for greater impact. Not
only did you care enough to write but you took the time to write your
letter by hand. It's just a suggestion based on something someone once told
me.

My story "Changes" or someone elses? I can send you one privately if you need
it.

Well, that all depends on each individual's penmanship. I know
mine's terrible, so if I write a letter by hand it probably
wouldn't even be read.

Subject: LK, DK

Isn't it in DK that LC asks "How long is the longest friendship?"
In any case, he does remind Nick that they should be friends and that
they should trust each other. In a DK II flashback, Nick promises LC
that he will repay him for the favor of having brought him across, even
though he wishes that LC would take it back. Could it be that saving
LC from Divia is Nick's payment? Is that why LC feels compelled to
stake Nick as requested?

I think it's enlightening to see these episodes together. And DK is
a great antidote for LK.

Character inconsistencies aside, I actually manage (dare I confess
this?) to enjoy LK. It is sad, but beautiful. It helps to believe
that Nick and Nat are together in some sort of afterlife. I suppose
that the fact that I saw most of the FK episodes after LK may have
something to do with my attitude toward it. For me, LK was always more
of a beginning than an ending.

In a lighter vein, is there anyone out there who has not noticed that
the victim with "two neat little holes" also has a pulse? I mean to
cast no aspersions on the man's acting. He did all that was humanly
possible. If they wanted more, they should have had LC bring him
across.
