Cloudrider Siri passed on the news that FK is back on
the air in Germany, and gave a link. Here's the synopsis
in German:

Die Abenteuer eines 700 Jahre alten „Vampircops“ im

wieder sterblich zu werden

Nick Knight ist 700 Jahre alt und ein Vampir. Als Cop
bei der Montreal Police setzt der jede Nacht seine
vampirischen Fähigkeiten zum Wohle der Menschheit ein.
Und eigentlich möchte er nichts sehnlicher als die Sonne
zu sehen, eine Frau zu lieben, ohne sie gleich
umzubringen, und einen Hamburger mit Pommes zu essen. Um
wieder an seine Sterblichkeit heran zukommen, begibt
sich Nick auf mystische Pfade. Dagegen hat jedoch sein
Ziehvater LaCroix etwas. Fortan wird die Stadt von einer
rituellen Mordserie erschüttert. Zusammen mit seinem
Kollegen Schanke soll Knight nun das Rätsel dieser
Vampirmorde aufklären.

Picking through the German text (I studied it in high
school and college, but I'm pretty rusty) I found that
the synopsis says Nick's on the Montreal police force.
It also says that he wants to see the sun, love a woman
without killing her, and eat a hamburger with fries. <g>
Whoever wrote this cut right to the heart of the matter!

Glad to see FK is back on the air in another country.
I'd love to watch it with dubbed-in voices. I remember
watching "Ironsides" in Germany when I was in high
school---the voice they used for Raymond Burr was so
unlike his real voice it made it all quite comical.

My German is still pretty good and I also wanted to
mention that. Plus, why they have rounded Nick's age down
instead of up (700+67 years is closer to 800, isn't it?)

I loved it too. As a matter of fact, I love most of the
German text about the show. I don't know, it's probably
the exhilaration of reading about you favorite show in a
different language.

Now, I really would love to watch the German version of
the show. Is there anyone in good old Deutchland willing
to tape some episodes and send them to Canada? I'm
willing to pay, or swap with English tapes if you like. I
really really like to see/hear how they've done it there.
I know that Germany is famous for its good dubbing.

Subject: FK extra sceens.

Hello. I have a question. In all of the season 1/2 eps I've seen on
SCIFI and from Christin's site, why is it that SCIFI shows different
versions of the eps? Why are these extra sceens edited from the SCIFI
shown eps? Is it due to certain rights? Were there eps shown in Canada
with the extra sceens which were never shown here in the US?

Due to commercial time. In Canada when the first season was originally aired,
Canada had less time alotted to commercials than the USA. The next two
seasons, it evened out. Shows in syndicated reruns have even more commercial
time than original run series, so even a little more has to be edited out.

Before anyone cries "foul," commercials is how the networks and cable
channels make money. If it wasn't for the commercials, there'd be no FK.
That's why it is so important not only to thank the Sci Fi Channel, but the
companies who advertise during the show.

Speaking of scene cutting, I sure hate that we always miss that "Dark Knightie"
moment when Nick goes after that lech painter in "Dead Issue!"  At least I think
I remember once seeing him vamp out when the guy complains of having to pay to
bury his suicided assistant....

Interesting how even the strangest bits of news can be related to FK.  The
news ticker on AIM had this as one of it's headlines today:

Remote-Controlled Rats May Hunt Bombs and Bodies

Sounds a lot like ratsie oppresshun to me--either that or something from a

When FK first aired, it was on Crime Time After Prime Time on CBS (the
states), pre Letterman.  If memory serves, I believe the time slot actually
was from 11:30-12:35, thus allowing for more air time and more commercials,
of course.
We are prob seeing the commercialized version of FK now on Sci-Fi - more
commercials, less show.

This happens alot when a show goes into syndication.

Subject: Why there are different versions of FK episodes

In the first season, the Canadian versions were longer because
their (enlightened <g>) law allows less commercial time than the
U.S. does. CBS cut the episodes to the shortest length they
could without getting into trouble with the Federal
Communications Commission. The second two seasons were the same
length for both countries because CBS was out of the picture.

SciFi has made its own edits. I gather from onlist comments
about the marathon that they've made more cuts this time?

CBS's cuts sometimes were important points. They cut the part of
the flashback in Only the Lonely that told us Nick hadn't been
able to hypnotize Natalie. They cut the scene where Nick
confronts the vampire night tech who turned Tawny in to the
Enforcers in Unreality TV and, worse, a scene in which Tawny
wakes up at the console and tells Nick that she had the most
incredible dream. The "dream" is what really happened. We in the
U.S. were left with the mistaken idea that Tawny remembered.
