Hello everyone! Well, first of all, I'm (kinda) new to the list. . .I've
actually watched FK since I think my freshman year in high school, then
we moved and we didn't have sci-fi for a while, and when we finally got
sci-fi, i found, to my horror, that FK was not on anymore. . .anyways, I
saw it again when sci-fi was doing the chain reaction thing when
bringing them back on the air and i was so delighted. I didn't even
realize i'd missed the show so much. I just joined the list again after
getting off it when we moved and I've been lurking for a while, but
today I decided to come out of lurkdom to say a few things. . .

>I wish Nigel
>could find a better role than the one he has in
>LEXX. He's too talented for that stuff.

I personally know nothing about the show LEXX. But, if you'd like to see
Nigel in a pretty good role, he occasionally pops up on Psi Factor, and
it's a pretty good role. Pretty mysterious. They never really delved
into the character but it suits him, i think.

> But Forever Knight remains as strongly attractive to
> me as it was the first time I saw it.

Same with me, and I was a serious star trek: tng fan. I think it's
because FK has so many different characters. . . there's something for
everyone there and. . .sorry folks, i lost my train of thought, my
brother came in and started acted nuts. . .as i was trying to say. .
.i'm sorry, i forgot what i wanted to say. . .well, i need to go, just
thought i'd add my 2 cents in.

Subject: Lacroix Drops In, or a Not-So-Subtle Reminder (2001 FK FanFic Awards)

The loft was dark. The only light came from a single candle flickering by the
grand piano. Nick sat moodily at his piano, plinking at the keys and morosely
passing his hand through the candle flame. He knew there was something he had to
do...but what was it? He couldn't quite put his finger on it...

"Really, Nicholas," a voice intoned from behind him.

Nick almost fell off the piano bench. He pulled himself together and tried to
pretend he hadn't been startled by his sire's as-usual undetected arrival. "What
do you want, Lacroix?" he snarled. "I'm busy. Go away."

Lacroix merely raised his eyebrow. "Busy? You must have a new definition for the
word." He paced to the fireplace, grimaced at the gothic carvings, then turned
to his sullen offspring. "I merely dropped by to remind you to submit your
nominations."

"Nominations?"

Lacroix sighed. "Yes, Nicholas, your nominations. For the 2001 Forever Knight
Fan Fiction Awards. You *have* been doing your homework, have you not? The
deadline is tomorrow, April 30. At midnight." He smiled frostily. "Quite the
appropriate hour, even if it is in that most mundane of time zones, the Central
Daylight Savings Time Zone. All those dreary states with names beginning with
vowels."

"Oh, no..." Nick groaned. *That* was what he was supposed to remember! The
Awards! How could he have forgotten? The familiar sense of angst washed over his
unworthy being.

Lacroix continued, ignoring Nick, "Everyone else has participated. Even young
Vachon, despite his slacker tendencies, has sent his nominations in. Your Dr.
Lambert has been especially industrious. I must say she has many faults, but
missing deadlines is not one of them."

Nick said suspiciously, "How do you know, Lacroix? Surely Natalie hasn't
confided in you."

"You should know by now, Nicholas, that I am far too old and powerful to be
foiled by a mere website password. Ms. Kaminski's feeble attempts at security
were childishly simple to hack. Her Access awards database is mine for the
asking."

Nick choked back his protestations of the immorality of invading other people's
computers and leapt for his own. As it booted up, he checked his watch. "I have
almost 24 hours to work on my nominations. Good thing I have the thirtieth off!
Who needs sleep when there're nominations to be made?" He logged onto the
Internet and accessed the awards website at www.nancykam.com.

Lacroix asked, "I assume you have your voter ID number?"

"Naturally. It's the same as last year -- 1228."

Lacroix shook his head. Ms. Kaminski was indulging Nicholas a bit *too* much. He
looked out the loft's enormous expanse of windows. "Dawn. What a pity. I fear I
must spend the day here with you."

Nick flapped one hand in the general direction of the couch while typing with
the other. "Go ahead. I'll be busy reading those few stories I haven't gotten to
yet. And nominating my favorites, of course." He typed feverishly for a moment,
then clicked his mouse. "There! First one submitted!" He smiled in satisfaction.
It looked like he wouldn't fail his duty after all. Better almost late than
never, that was his motto. Participating in the Awards was one more step towards
redemption, as far as he was concerned. Rewarding fan fic writers for their
efforts was entirely noble.

Lacroix settled onto the black leather couch. Once again, he thought, he had had
to save his wayward son from himself. If Nicholas had forgotten to do his Awards
duty, he would no doubt have been impossible to deal with for months to come.

Even being old and powerful didn't protect one from the hazards of being driven
crazy by the angst backwash from a remorseful Nicholas. And if his favorite
authors were rewarded, he could look forward to more hours of reading pleasure.
He smiled. His work here was done.

Until, of course, it was time to remind Nicholas to vote on the final ballot.

I don't know who originally posted that (I think MSN is losing some of my
mail), but IMHO Nigel is *wonderful* as Prince! He had me drooling all over
again, just like the first time I became enchanted by LaCroix. And there
are all those wonderful little 'Nigel' touches in his portrayal of Prince:
the way he delivers dramatic lines in a very subtle way that gives them
added punch ("I'm very good with pain"), the charming Englishness of his
occasional vulgarity ("They like to crawl up your ***, Mr. President"), and
his adroit use of body language (the way he danced around Xev while walking
her down the street in 'Fluffdaddy').

Yummy!

I've heard of two factions: Heartbreakers and Nighthaven. I think the
Nighthaven faction is N/V. What is the distinction of the Heartbreakers -- just
for those of us who like both the dark and the fair in our "young" vampire
bachelors? "g"

Yep yep yep! I have to agree absolutely!

Lol! I couldn't agree more. Lexx is a fairly... how can I say it... *vulgar*
show, but Uncle Nigel keeps drawing me back again and again! What amazes me
is how he can pull off the subtle nuances of the character in a show
chock-full of quite obvious metaphors, without falling victim of those
himself, AND, creating a character with such charming albeit evil qualities.

The Cousin in me can watch Lexx quite happily, as long as I get a glimpse or
two of our beloved Uncle. Heck, I even sat through that Darkman movie, just
to see him :D

Subject: Still Wending

Well, I'm still wending my way through the fic archive and have made it about
half way through Ms. Clark's stories (I'm in the N's -- man, that woman is
prolific! "g"). I'm really enjoying her stories; she's a very good writer and
tells some very good stories.

Reading through her acknowledgments, etc., however, is making me feel kind of
wistful. I've been a fan of the show since it first came out, but I've only
been involved with the net fandom for a few years. How wonderful it must have
been to be a part of it back when the show was in it's "heyday!" The fandom is
still vital, but back then it must have really crackled. Well, the con is that
I missed out on it, but I guess one of the pros is the wealth of fic for me to
mow through at my leisure.

Anyway, good job, S!

Subject: Blue's Klews... (or, Lock Me Up, I'm Going Insane...)

Silly story idea... spawned by watching the 2-hr
Blue's Clues special where Steve is leaving to go to
college and his brother Joe is taking over.

Imagine darling Nicholas stuck in Blue's Klews
world... hearing the word "klew" over and over...
maybe we'd never need to use the Klew Brick ever
again!

When you have small children, you are exposed to
things that no sane mind should ever have to endure.

Anyone wishing to run with this story idea, please do.

Oh, the possibilities, though! Imagine LC's reaction
to Nicholas doing Blue's Klews.

"Nicholas, you do realize, don't you, that consulting
with an animated cartoon dog is beneath you?"

"Nicholas, your playing at detective was bad enough. I
insist that you cease this children's show
immediately!"

"Oh, Nicholas. Must you?"

OK, I'll go away now. :-)
