I get Sci-fi off dish (Direct TV) and have experienced the sound
fading in & out, diagonal lines, digitalization, and "blips" (instant
of loss of picture &
sound). It only seems to happen on FK. Are their copies wearing out?

The extra cuts to make room for more advertising mystify me, since so much of
the advertising is "in house". Sure, they're required to air the ads that are
paying for the program, but why must they advertise so much for other Sci-fi
shows, or take so much time telling us over & over that the "Vampires are out
by day"? Why would we want to watch other Sci-fi programs that have been
similarly mutilated to make way for more Sci-fi advertising?

As well as the hunter in Hunted lugging Schanke from the precinct parking lot
(into a car) and into the generating station. In a matter of minutes, no
less, with time to revive him, make a tape recording, and get back to the
precinct to plant it in Nick's car.

Must be something in that Toronto water....

Actually, I saw it do the line distortion also during a movie they had on
yesterday. It is not their copies (which are a different set btw). It was
around 6:30 when it happened. Same exact distortion with diagonal lines,
etc. Looks like they are having problems broadcasting, especially half-way
through a show. I sure hope I get a response from technical support soon.

I'm really going to have to look out for this. It almost sounds like the
radar interference that we're currently experiencing where I work and
broadcast from. We have a camera on our tower and can usually track any
ships that are in the area that are using radar . We can also tell by the
type of pattern and the time between the distortions (radar sweeps) just
what type of radar it is. There could also be other causes like power surges
or drops. Do the distortions occur at the exact times everyday? Give me any
info you can and i'll see what the engineers at the station think.

As stated recently, somewhat randomly (so far, Monday, Tuesday, Thurs),
always at 10:34 am-10:40 am (central), a signal failure occurs on Sci-fi.
This failure can appear as ghostly diagonal lines, small horizontal lines,
and even extra grain on the image. I called Dish Network and they noticed
the problem as well at this time. It is an analog signal failure from
"Sci-fi." This always occurs about 30 min through a show, such as the one I
noticed yesterday. You have to have a fairly high-quality feed to see it
though.

I have to say that I rather enjoyed Nigel Bennett's(Lacroix) character and
acting in the movie Rats and Rabbits. It was so...almost the opposite of
Lacroix, yet still dark..in a twisted comical kind of way. He was a Mad
scientist of sorts using the slum people as his test subjects. It sound and
was like a warped rendition of a modern Dr.Mengele's life and times, but it
was surprisingly entertaining(in a Pulp fiction kind of way, be warned.<g>)
and I thought Nigel pulled off the character very well.

For those who don't like AOL, is there a chat that exists for MSN Messenger
users? I wouldn't mind setting a date for it, like on Saturday nights or
something. All you have to do with msn is add contacts to your conversation,
no limit. One person would need to be the main one in charge of adding
people in though. Anyone interested in this? I don't mind doing it, if
there's others that'd like to join in. I know most people out there are on
PCs and I like msn messenger much better than the yahoo or aol ones.

How true! I've seen (and been in) a lot of productions since then, and that
still is in the top few. (By the way, seeing the play was suggested by Greg
Kramer as I was rehearsing my first (well, technically second) play at the
time - Lisa has REMARKABLE energy on stage and is not to be missed)

Probably - until Bonnie and I got to answer a round of "What is Greg doing
tell him I said hi...." questioning and messages to pass on.<g> Seriously, it
was one of those weird "hi" moments that wasn't intrusive. Actors deserve
their privacy and get it from me.

(By the way, if you guys ever see me on stage or as a guest at a sci fi con -
SHOWER me with attention. You have my permission. hehehehe. Uhr, just don't
bite me - that did happen to me at a con and I still don't think it was funny
but I digress)

I mention this as I know we have some new people and some youngsters. I've
recently introducted a 14 year old friend to the show (when she carries
around the Ratsie Wot Kilt Screed for an entire rehearsal, you have a
Ratpacker in the making) and she was full of some questions about the FK
actors.

Actors are people and FK was a job. Actors are just as likely to lose touch
with former co-workers as anyone else. However, just like an office runs
best with a well-hired, well-trained group who works together as a team, so
does a tv show.

It is a tribute to the teamwork on the set that we have a show that holds up
with all the repeat watching. I hadn't seen an episode, even FEVER, in about
a year or so until the marathon. I was afraid my interest might have died
down. I was wrong. Good work is always a joy to see.

When I became a fan of FK, even though I was having a lot
of fun watching and discovering the show, in the back of
my head I was counting the days until my passion would
die down. It had happened with all the other things that
I had been a fan of before (movies, shows, novels), it
had always been a period of intense fanatic love,
followed by cooled down mild interest, followed by cold
abandonment, and the whole episode wouldn't last more
than a year at tops.
I have been a fan of FK for 18 months now (and still
counting), and the fire is burning now as hot as day 1. I
have no idea what the magic is but I'm guessing what Libs
is saying is right. Plus the fandom is so amazing, so
inventive, you never get bored enough to lose interest. I
don't know how long I'll go on but I sure am not ready to
quit now --even if, like my sister recently said, my
family has just accepted the fact that I'm not crazy, but
merely insane.

*pops out of lurkdom* Wow, I've been wondering the same thing for a
while now! I've been a fan of FK since about my Freshman year in
high school (I'm currently finishing my second year of college) and
my interest has never really waned. Yeah, the list had the same fate
as all of the others during the evil College Application Process but
then it was the first one to come back once I found my sanity again.
I look at the fate of my other...fandoms/obsessions, and almost all
of the rest have gone the way of the dinosaur. *shock* Even that
Star Trek obsession during high school has cooled, as you said, to
abandonment. Even those that didn't are just a handful of tapes and
wav files on my hard drive, nothing like FK :)

Napster claimed immunity under the "not a problem sharing a tape with your
daughter or friend" rule, which is not really a rule but simply the reality
is that no one is going to bother to prosecute individuals making individual
exchanges. Financially it doesn't pay. When you start mass producing
copywrited material for 20, 50, 100 of your 'friends', then you are making
enough of a dent in their bottom line that it is worth pursuing -
particularly as there is is plenty of evidence. In Napster's case, there was
no in house use. The so-called service existed *only* to circumvent
copyright. Napster's claim that they couldn't be responsible for what their
"friends" did with the accessible material was the world's lamest excuse -
like the high school student who told me, "Yeah, well, I wasn't giving the
finger to <you> personally so .." Again, no one is that stupid and no one
has 20,000 close personal friends under their roof.

Ebay attracts attention becoz everyone and their dog knows it is there. And
as the people posting there are easy to track down, a person puts himself at
considerable risk posting copyright materials for profit. And if someone is
stupid enuff to do it, we can't help that. But to believe that translates as
a threat to us, is overstating the case.

<<<Taking all this into account, What do you think will happen if Forever
Knight fans start selling video copies and DVD copies for profit? >>
But we don't. The condemnation of such activity comingoff our Listservers
from the fan HQ's would probably peel the paint off my monitor.
Also, it has always been observed that FK fans are as smarter or smarter than
the average bear, Boo-Boo, so we're highly unlikely to do it.
The Ebay situation is not related to any sort of concerted, organized or
underground effort by fandoms to profiteer FK. Again, issues of duping
cassettes of music and movies has been an issue for fifty years. TPTB are
not virgins on this issue. They won't mistake us for volume bootleggers.

Then I guess I will join you Sunny. My niece calls
me "twisted" for my continued interest in this show
and vampires in general. This is the only show that I
have actively pursued collected items for and that I
have written anything for. My husband refers to my

I can still watch episodes and enjoy them. There
are no other shows that have captured my imagination

more than a vampire cop show. Of course, I am not

If this does go ahead, is there any chance of making it at a

In the library where I used to work, FK came to be known as "your weird vampire

I continue, usually, to be interested in previous interests, e.g., the original
Dark Shadows. Exceptions like Remington Steele are based on something specific.
(I was not happy with Pierce Brosnan's on air reaction to the unexpected revival

But Forever Knight remains as strongly attractive to me as it was the first time
