do the show. I saw it on the local news.

I bet Nat would Not be happy about that! It would make her work that much
harder, not to mention the dangers from rat bites. Grace would probably be
sitting on top of her desk, tired of jumping every time something brushed
against her, even if it was just a draft of air.

Of course she could always call Screed in to help clean up the place, telling
him that he could have every rat he caught. And I bet that within a short
period of time the place would be rat free.

Subject: Confirmed Sci-fi as Source of Signal Failure

Hi,

As stated recently, somewhat randomly (so far, Monday, Tuesday, Thurs), at
10:34 am-10:40 am (central), a signal failure occurs on Sci-fi. This failure
can appear as ghostly diagonal lines, small horizontal lines, and even extra
grain on the image. I have just called Dish Network and they noticed the
problem as well at this time. It is an analog signal failure from "Sci-fi."
Dish Network said they'd e-mail them about this problem.

Satellite providers, like Dish Network, acquire a satellite signal from
Sci-fi first and then they direct this signal to us. They actually checked
on this for me and confirmed it being Sci-fi. Please e-mail
tech@w....... to report this problem. The more people who mail them,
the quicker they will fix it. Quality is very important to me and I am sure
you all as well.

While many of you may not be able to see it (low broadcast quality, low-fi
tape, etc), I can. This type of distortion spoils new DVD captures (if I can
not remake a whole episode, why bother). Just about all of you record on to
tapes, so you would have to look real hard for this. I can see this quite
clearly on a DVD-R. If you would like to see exactly what I am speaking of,
please click this link below for some sample screen-caps:

http://www.honeybat.com/kristin2/Forever_Knight/Temp_thumbs/

I was going to make some of the ghostish diagonal lines too, but paused you
can not get a very good idea of what they look like. The above should give
you a decent idea. Please e-mail Sci-fi at the above addy when you can and
let me know if you hear from them. A phone # would be ideal, but I can not
find one. If anyone knows it, please let me know.

Thanks for reading,
Kristin

It is not a FK scene. It is a totally unrelated scene
that was flashed for a second or two. It also flashed
in the middle of a commerical. I thought Sci-Fi was
throwing it in on purpose, just to screw up our tapes.
But, I didn't think they would mess with the
commericals. I have no idea what this scene is from
or why it is flashed during FK.

So much for a clean (apart from unavoidable syndie cuts) new set of tapes.
Second day in a row the sound has been blipping out, *only* during FK.
Argh, argh, argh!

Is anyone else having this problem, or should I be grumping at Time-Warner
Cable in Columbus? I'm starting to think my hubby is right about them
letting the signal quality slip in order to get more people to sign up for
digital cable. *sigh*

I have compared my older tapes with new ones from this airing of FK. The old
ones, from a re-run season on Sci-Fi, are of a better quality then the "new"
one.
I have at&t broadband and the reception of FK is poor. Since cable co. is a
monopoly here, complaining would be useless. JudyL in Concord Ma.

I've been thinking exactly the same thing about Time Warner Cable of NY.
I'm trying to tell myself that it's just because I'm so much more attuned
to it that I'm noticing so many flashes, sputters, and various and sundry
types of interference in the reception (seen on watched tape), but I know
that is unlikely. I definitely don't put it past them to be lowering the
regular cable service quality given that they are aggressively pushing
their ditigal cable service in the area.

It doesn't help that Sci Fi Channel is playing fast and loose with the
commercial breaks, running straight into the first act and/or tag in some
instances (which is not necessarily a bad thing, but strangely
disconcerting <G>) *AND* somehow having shortened the introduction/opening
credits by about 30 seconds (and yes, I actually timed it as on the VCR
counter after this was mentioned on the Sci Fi bboard). Does this mean
that they got their extra 30 seconds of commercal time and therefore are
less less likely to make cuts in the body of the show. I am so truly
grateful to the Sci Fi Channel for having returned FK to their broadcast
lineup and yet... <G>

All of which definitely points out the absolute need for a professional
video release! *SIGH*

is the further cutting up of the scene in I will Repay

parts of the whole story that any one that hasn't seen
these episodes is missing a lot. <sigh> Wishing for

This is the first day since the marathon I've had a chance to watch. I have
ATT but they haven't updated our system to broadband yet. I was shocked
with all the extra commercials and cut ins. They did the same-only
worse-with Dark Shadows. I was nice to see it again but I could do without
the commercials.

Subject: Tracker

I thought that this article from the SciFi Channel Newsletter #259, might be
of interest to the list.

Tracker's Future Uncertain
Conflicting reports have emerged about the future of the syndicated SF TV
series Tracker. "Tracker unfortunately is not coming back for a second
season," a series spokeswoman told SCI FI Wire. The spokeswoman added that
the show has completed shooting the last eight episodes that will be airing,
but that the series has not been renewed.

Not true, Doug Friedman, senior vice president of worldwide television
marketing for Lions Gate Entertainment, told SCI FI Wire. "Tracker has not
been canceled," Friedman said in an interview. "We're in syndication through
September or October of this year. We are working on renewing the show.
We're looking potentially for new homes for the show, but we still have the
option to bring the show back. At worst, the future of the show is
uncertain. At best, of course, it will be back. We don't know where it will
be back, but it is definitely not canceled."

New episodes are set to begin airing next week, completing the series' first
season. Tracker, a series about an alien bounty hunter who is tracking
fugitives on Earth, stars Adrian Paul (Highlander) and Geraint Wyn Davies
(Forever Knight).

<< ately and have even brought the show back to the airwaves. If people keep
pushing it, they might eventually get fed up and close down the doors on

Every movie made, every popular CD, and a lot of cult TV from Beverly
Hillbillies on has been copied and bootlegged up the Wazoo by unscrupulous
merchandizers all over the globe ever since the first guy figured out he
could copy cassette tapes and sell the cheap copies at a festival stand. The
only person who should and probably would get in trouble is the person trying
to sell dupes for profit. This is not a case of someone trying to sell FK
cheaper than the licensed versions. <There is no licensed version.> If
there was, we'd all have it ( maybe two sets) and we sure wouldn't be tempted
to buy some cheapo duped set. And in that case, the lawyers would have
closed down the Ebay offer already.

Forkni-L is not promoting this, and McL et al have been scrupulous about
smacking down any and all suggestions which do or might violate copyright
law. This vigilance is very helpful and protective to all of us and
especially to newbies popping in. We can't get our undies in a bunch every
time one individual somewhere out there in the vast Internet community
decides to break the law (nor that someone else decides to break the law by
bidding or purchasing ).

I don't think we have to be inordinately fearful about this, or trot out
terms like 'dangerous' etc. It would be another thing if we, or Ger's Fan
Club, or KtK or some other active arm of FK fandom decided to set up shop and
actively promoted the sale and distribution of tapes/DVDs. But we aren't
going to do that.

The saddest truth of all is that if there were any merchandise etc. we'd buy
it instead of taping the show everytime it airs and keeping 3 sad sets of
homemade VHS tapes on our shelves. Personally, I hope someone notices FK
merchandise on EBay and says, "Why aren't we cashing in and selling licensed
stuff?" There is a major FK merchandise vacuum and the market, like nature
abhors a vacuum. If no legitimate marketer fills the need, then we should
not be surprised to see questionable, if not illegal merchandise offered on
Ebay occaisionally. We can condemn it and as a group refuse to purchase, but
not all FK fanatics are on this Listserver or on the other Loops.
