*chuckle* Why? You're not wrong. (Besides, it's not like there's
anywhere you could effectively hide if we really wanted to come after
you. *eg*)

I wouldn't go as far as "horrible", but they definitely seemed all the
way through season 1 (with a few isolated exceptions) to give the
impression that Nat purposely chose harsh/unflattering makeup colors,
clothing and hairstyles as a counter to being an attractive young woman
in a traditionally middle-aged man's profession. In fact, I was
surprised when they had her turning 30 in OtL -- up until then I assumed
they had cast someone that young and then tried to make her up older.
This was my impression through 22-year-old eyes, and it hasn't changed
much 10 years later.

In second and third season, I think the improvement resulted from (a) in
their world, Nat being more confident and feeling less like she had
something to prove, and (b) in our world, somebody figuring out that
they could contrast her with Janette without making her look like a frump.

I have to agree, and I am a Natpacker. I didn't like her makeup first
season. It seemed overdone. And the curly hair was almost on the frizzy side.
I did like the late first season and rest of the series hair with the more
natural wave, and not the mass of curls. Her makeup was more natural as
well, subtle but there.

Missing scenes:

I have seen three different versions of first season FK and each one is a
little different. There's the Canadian version, the CBS (US) version and the
SciFi version. The CBS and Scifi versions are a little different from each
other.

When the show first aired on CBS the Americans were wondering what the
Canadians were talking about when they were going on about Nick and Nat's
relationship, and how they'd kiss and other things. They were wondering how
we missed it. The answer turned out to be that many of the good N&N scenes
were cut from the CBS versions. There were scenes with other main characters
and character combos cut too, but it was the N&N ones that were the most
noticeable as it gave a completely different dimension to their relationship.

BTW, Marg's Candian copies are quite good. :)

Subject: Re: How do I access the FTP site?

At the risk of sounding like a computer geek, I'll answer
these:
FTP means "File Transfer Protocol". An FTP site, without
getting too technical, is a site where you can see files
like they are in a directory. The only difference is that
this directory is not on your own computer but on some
other computer to which you are linked by means of FTP.
So you can access the files in that directory and
download them into your computer if you like. Clear
enough?
When people talk about the FTP site on the list, they are
talking about this link:
ftp://ftp.win.net/winnet/fkvoyage/fkfanfic/
which archives the stories posted to fkfik-l.

IIRC means "If I Recall Correctly" and there's nothing
technical about it as you can see :)

Glad to be of more help, offlist, if there are any more
questions

That's exactly how I found it, and how I felt (except I'm not much of a RS
fan, sorry). Later, my sister came to stay with me for awhile and told me
that it had been made into a series (this was when it was on CBS' 'Crimetime
After Primetime') so we settled down eagerly to watch. The first ep I saw
was 'Unreality TV', and my first reaction was, "But he's *blond*!!!"
Needless to say, I quickly grew to like Blondie. <g>

Oddly, most of my feelings towards the characters have remained the same
from the start through all my oft-repeated viewings.

The first time I ever saw Carpe Noctem was in a novel by Dean Koontz called
'seize the night'
which was published in 1998, whether or not he got the phrase from somewhere
else or came to it on his own I couldn't say. But the move from the
relatively well known phrase 'Carpe Diem' to 'Carpe Noctem' is not a
particulary big stretch.

Subject: Question on a Episode

I have been racking my brain for the past few days, trying to remember this
one episode (one I want to watch again now that FK's back) and I can't
remember it. I rarely pay attention to episode titles (a bad thing if you
want to watch a specific episode, but don't know what the episode is called)
so I was wondering if any of you know it.

It's the one where I think Nick is being investigated by other cops (I
think?). They find a sunbed in his appartment as well as blood (which later
he explains by saying it was a thickening agent for paint?).

There was another one that I wanted to know about as well, but I keep
thinking it is the same as the first one (why, I don't know, because it's
probably not) where Nick gets some background information so it looks as if
he's had a past? I think at the very end, he tells his birthdate.

If you can understand my ramblings and know what episode(s) I'm talking
about, could you please contact me off the list? Please? Pretty please with
sugar on top.

Hi!

I found Forever Knight after attending the monthly L.A. Comicbook Convention at
the Shrine. Two friends of mine did a tape of the first five eps - including
the pilot - for me - all first run from CBS (Channel 2 in Los Angeles).

After that, whenever I remembered to program my VCR, I taped the episodes. I
have most of them first run - I think - from Sci-Fi Channel. I am checking my
tapes for I know I missed some from each season. What I already have I am not
re-taping.

I do enjoy the show and, being a writer of fanfiction, mainly slash, I can now
put down ideas I thought of doing my introduction to it.

Did this make any sense??

I think that would be "Killer Instinct", the ep where Nick
is being framed for murders and in the end we discover
that it is the resurrected LaCroix doing the framing.

Was then OUTRAGED by, what I thought, was Copyright infringement, had sent a

there was no infringement and was looking forward to a series . . .which
didn't materialize until MUCH later with Forever Knight.

Was again, OUTRAGED, cause didn't know that it was basically the series and
not another infringment, lol. . .sheesh on me! Anyway, fell in luv with the

As someone else has already said, that was Hunters, from the first season.
Don't worry about not being able to remember episode names because I couldn't
remember the title of this one myself. The precinct computer operator can't find
a file for Detective Knight, which means he has to get one faked and put online
before someone finds out that this identity doesn't exist. That's the one where
Nick gets the year of his supposed birth wrong, then covers it up by saying that
because he was born on Jan. 1, he tends to do that. Personally I don't think
this would happen in real life, but it satisfies Stonetree.

(For the newbies, Pat and I are often guests at the same conventions, thus this

PAT'S REPLY:

Not the first time people have wondered whether FK swiped my idea, but for
the record--and I looked up the dates--the Rick Springfield pilot came out
AFTER I signed my 1st book contract with Ace for the Vampire files. I'd
been working on them since 1986, signed the contract in the spring of 1988
and the 1st book came out in 1990. I'd beaten James Parriot by a few
months!

However a few people think I swiped the idea of a vampire detective from Lee
Killough's Bloodhunt and Bloodlinks books--which I never knew about until my
own 3rd one was in print. I wrote her to let her know what was being
rumored around and we became good buds. She's got Blood Games in print with
Misha Merlin Press. Please go to their website or hers and order your fine
selves a copy!

Actually FK bears way more resemblance to Lee's books than mine, so there IS
a possibility that some idea borrowing happened, but I prefer the "great
minds think alike" scenario. So does Lee. I imagine James P. would agree to
that, too!

BTW--this isn't on Nigel Bennett's website, but he's one of the media guests
at Crescent City Con (1st week in August) in New Orleans. I'm going to fly
down there with the cover artist of our books, Jamie Murray, and we are all

For those who've just joined us and therefore haven't seen the list rules for
Fkfic-l yet, I just want to state something that I know Carla already knows.

That is, that while a crossover between The Mummy and FK would be very
interesting, it couldn't be posted on Fkfic-l because we only do xovers with
other tv shows (and those not of the reality variety.)

The reason is that the owners of print and film copyrights are much more prone
to sue for infringements than those who own tv shows.

This doesn't mean such a crossover couldn't be posted elsewhere. It just means
that since Don and I could be personally sued over the fic list, I tend to be
maybe a little overprotective. :)

It also doesn't mean we can't talk about one on here. It just means a written
story would have to go to another site or list.

McLisa, just applying an ounce of prevention :)
