Well, Vachon *was* the scout, so he was probably supposed to get
there *before* everyone else.
It's also possible that it wasn't actually Lake Titicaca. He
could conceivably gotten lost.

For those of you who have been re-watching FK on SciFi, I'm curious: has
seeing the eps again brought any fresh musings or insights?

A few things:

1) Schanke should never have been replaced by Vachon
2) Janette should never have been replaced by Tracey.
3) Better film stock should have been used in the first season
4) LaCroix should have been in more first season eps.
5) I never realized how sensual the show was now that I am re-watching.

Better film stock or better airing in general of season 1 should have
occured. I have really noticed a big difference between season 1 and 2,
quality-wise. My "The Fix" DVD image captures (will be available tonight)
are turning out much clearer than my "Dark Knight." I was some what
expecting that though, even with DVD recordings. From viewing a few daily
sets of the 1st season, it was not really so much the film stock. It just
seems that it always airs less clearly on Sci-fi anyway.

X-files was great. JK was acting a lot like he did in C&C. It was the
yearly quirky ep of the X files. Burt Reynolds was in it and in one scene,
Scully and Reyes come across him in a parking garage in a .... sea foam
green classic convertable (looked like a caddy, too!) They even popped the
trunk!
I was watching it with this huge grin on my face! I love it!!!

I'm behind on my reading so this topic may be abandoned by now but i wanted
to say that i also don't enjoy Buffy as much as i did when they were in high
school. Willow being gay i don't have a problem with that but wouldn't bi be
a better identity for her? The show just isn't as good and Angel isn't all
that grand anymore either. But there is really no comparsion to these shows
and FK b/c FK was directed to an adult audience and buffy wasn't/isn't.
LaCroix and Janette both said a few times that once you're brought across
you lose your soul but on Buffy they become half demons or something.
Someone mentioned fan fic -- I love fan fiction that is a cross-over with
buffy b/c its interesting her going after vampires that are so different. If
anyone has any suggests i might like please e-mail me offlist.

Hmmn... I see it as their trying to replace Schanke with Tracy and Screed,
and Janette with Vachon and Urs. Guess it never occurred to them that it
would be cheaper just to keep the original actors.

Is there any way that FORKNI-L and FKFIC-L could become Yahoo groups? I'm
on a couple of yahoo groups, and I find the web-only option very appealing.
And then there's the instant archiving and search capability for all posts,
which is useful also.

K,
I wouldn't want the lists to become Yahoo!Groups. I just moved two of my
lists *off* Yahoo! because:
1) I'm sick of ads in the footers of my mail
2) I don't want Yahoo! assuming I want more spam [which, if you don't go
through your preferences under your Yahoo! ID, is now automatically assumed]
3) I don't want Yahoo! tracking any more of my life with its Web Beacons
(basically smart cookies)
and I'm also concerned that:
4) there's a petition circulating the 'net saying that Yahoo!Groups is
considering not allowing "adult" themed groups (groups that would contain
*any* language possibly offensive to children [whether there's real truth
behind that, I'm not sure, but given how things have become so politically
correct, I don't want to risk it]
and
5) that Yahoo! is starting to increase the number of services it wants
people to pay for rather than be free.

So that's my argument.... :-)

I noticed that also about the Caddy. They used a 59 in the same color as our
62'. The movie producers must have something with this color. As Nicholas
Grey and Jon Casser said at LCA2, the color photographed better on film.

It completely ruined the rest of the TV land for me. I
mean, before FK, there was nothing to compare anything
with, right? I was happy with the crap they dished out on
TV. But now that I've seen FK, nothing seems good enough
anymore. The other shows just don't cut it :(

while we're sharing reminiscences: my memory is of my
sister rose showing me pictures in a fanfic book and
trying to explain all the characters and their
respective relationships; and of me asking, "now wait,
is this one a vampire or a mortal?" I was cautious at
first, being leery of dark fantasy, but was not long
in being won over. (I have since developed a taste for
such as a result.) I remember being amazed to find
that while smaller, the fanbase is so much more
devoted than, say, trek-fans. *!!* even still, being
also leery of "Fandom", it was a while of listening to
Megan and Rose talk about what was going on on the
list before I succumbed. and here i am, for better or
for worse. though I'll keep trying, I don't believe
i've truly won over anyone myself, but i think it's
funny: the zeal with which fk fandom tries to
"convert" others is comparable to that of some
religions! ;) as for the marathon, I didn't see all of
it, and I've never really liked "sons of belial", but
what a treat! I'd never seen it on TV, only on tape,
and I'd never seen "C&C" on either media. yayy!

I've wondered if it isn't just that Nick had a flash of a feeling
that he was being watched. It isn't clear to me that he felt Alyce, it is
more that he felt something... and after looking about, he decided it
was just his nerves and walked away.

Actually Tracy was supposed to replace Schanke, while Urs was supposed to
replace Janette, sort of. They appear to have planned to replace the Nick --
Janette -- Nat triangle with Vachon -- Tracy --Urs. Originally USA wanted to
drop Natalie in favor of the neck of the week. Ger put a stop to that by saying
that if they did, he'd leave too. LaCroix would have been seen only at CERK,
doing his monologues.

USA thought all the actors/characters over 30 were too old to interest or
attract their viewers. Why in blazing Hades (this _is_ a family list <g>) they
bought FK with its established characters and audience and then did their best
to lose said audience with no guarantee of gaining the men 18-35 which are USA's
target demographic, I don't know.

USA had *NO* understanding of the show or the fan base. The show lost
most of it's shine when it went to USA. Although I have been know to be a
fairly strong supporter of Vachon, I still prefer the first two seasons.
Nick, Janette,Schanke, and LaCroix we pure magic to watch. The third season
seemed to loose that magic.
All that said I still have a warm spot for Vachon. I would have been
satisfied just to have him walking around *blinking* and looking cute <g>.

On the plus side, I like the archives and the files section. On the
negative side, their servers choke under a heavy load (or just seemingly at

I have access to a free Majordomo listserver and I'd certainly move a list

Curiouser," maybe he's the real vampire. : ) It really
was wonderful to see him again and a bonus to see a
nice classic Caddy too.

I have to say, John Kapelos is a wonderful actor! I don't think I've ever
seen him and thought, "That was just not believable." I've even been creeped
out (when he played the abusive step-father in "The Craft") but knowing he's
as good as he is, I knew not to hold it against him :-D and I definitely go
out of my way to watch TV episodes or movies if I know he's in them (or any
of the other cast members.)

I'm more bent towards the darker side of FK, with only a smattering of the
Light (what happened to the Light Cousins??) but Schanke as a vampire would
be an interesting thread to explore. Hmm gives me an idea for FKFIC.

As ever,

If FK had started in its 3rd season form I probably
wouldn't have become a fan. I, too, agree that there is a
certain charm to the first two seasons that is missing in
the third. The concept and atmosphere of those seasons
are different from the ordinary run-of-the mill TV dramas
we get everyday, and for a change, we see women (Janette
and Nat) that have more complexity and character than
just being blond, sexy and a victim. Unfortunately it
seems like USA didn't want anything out of the ordinary
or it would be too difficult for the viewer to absorb.
For them, TV is like KFC: all chicken. I have nothing
against Tracy, Vachon or Urs. But I have read fanfiction
that had given them more developed characters than what
they gave them in the show. I guess the real question is,
did USA think FK, in its unique, complex and curiously
inventive format was too much for its audience? Did they
think the viewer's brains would shut down if they gave
them a thicker, more involving plot and characters that
were different from the rest of the shows?
