Hi Everyone:

Two scenes that come to mind...(and I might add
rather recently seen on SCIFI)

1.) Dark Knight II: Seeing Nick stuck in the
trunk (the initial shot of Ger with his eyes
clenched shut, hands over his ears) with the
"Schanke polka" playing. And then, there is
Schanke's expression when he finds out about the
brakes..... :)

2.)"For I Have Sinned":(2 scenes) Schanke's
confession and Nick's reaction is good for a few
chuckles (not to mention the fake accent). After
his confession, Schanke realizes that it was Nick
in the confessional.

Sorry, but seeing those scenes makes me laugh so
hard that I'm in tears....:)

Thanks

David

Honestly, Buffy hasn't been any good since she left high school.

I will watch the H.S. eps, but I seriously hate the university eps,
and I especially hate what they did to Willow. How shameless
on their parts.

# Yes, they are shaving off a few seconds, escpecially
around the commericals. The biggest cut I noticed was
in "Dark Knight", after Schanke totalled the Caddy.
The garage guy tries to open the trunk (with Nick
inside), but this time around, that scene was cut.
But, they kept the part about looking for another
Caddy in the junkyard.

Brian... What do you mean "what they did to Willow?" That's she's gay. I hope
that is not what you meant. Please explain.

I didn't start watching Buffy until this year, and I really haven't found a
season I don't like.

I think of all the episodes of Buffy vs. FK, FEVER is still my favorite and the
best episode of television I've ever seen. I even did a a few papers on the
episode when I was taking a script writing course. There's a lot of power there.
One of my favorite FK lines is Natalie saying, "Who am I to judge?" concerning
the vampires.

Back from Europe, hehehe. Actually, I had some bad information, that the

Anyway, what's this about Buffy vs. FK?? Is this fiction for the crossover
loop?

Oh, and what happened to the LC's??

Yep. Turning Willow gay really made the show cheap. There was really no
development for this to happen. They just did it, and I felt this would have
been treated a lot better if it actually appeared to be planned.

Also, the writing and acting slowly declined since the h.s. eps. I started
watching Buffy when it first aired. And I gave up on it after all the cheap
gimmicks started. The whole Angel and Buffy ending was far more tragic than
what I had expected from this show.

Thus, the h.s eps equal quality; the university eps equal bad writing like Saved
By the Bell.

Technically it is, and it's not as ridiculous as it sounds for a lot of
reasons. The nature of the law forces them to be paranoid if they want
to have any claim to their property in the future.

As bad as I feel for the author of the book in question (and I missed
all that entirely, so thanks, guys, for filling me in), it means they're
actually paying *some* attention. Which -- considering that just 4
years ago poor Ginjer Buchanan was talking to was talking to what seemed
like different people every week about getting the tie-in novel license
renewed, some of whom apparently weren't even aware that Sony *owned*
the property, let alone that it was currently running on SciFi -- is
actually encouraging. (And could I *have* a more labyrinthine sentence
there? Sheesh. Sorry, guys.)

Also encouraging. If so, let me say I will be the first in line to
pre-order DVDs the second I can do so. In the meantime, I want to be
able to watch something that isn't literally (physical age of my
original-airing tapes) or figuratively (SciFi cuts) in tatters. I know
I'm not the only one, and I know that I for one will scrap whatever
homemade stopgap I might come up with in favor of licensed commercial
DVDs should they be made available.

Sony can take that to the bank, and I can only hope they understand how
literally true that is.

On my short list too. I was pleasantly reminded today (a) how much I
love this ep, (b) how many "classic" lines come from it, (c) how cool
Erica was, (d) how much I still adore the Nick & Nat scene by the window
(my all-time favorite), and (e) why I was so excited when I found out
Brad Wright was joining the SG-1 production staff. :-)

> I'm curious what yours are, and if they impact your

I've written much less fic than a lot of people, but as long as we're on
the topic, "Last Act" had a *huge* impact on my first one in the fandom,
"Further to Fall". Erica in particular loomed larger than one would
expect from a one-shot character who didn't even live past the opening credits.

I'm sure there are more examples, but I haven't read any of my own FK
fic in too long to tell you what they are.

Gosh, this ol' lurking dinosaur has had a lot to say the last couple
days... ;-)

That scene was never in the Sci-fi version. Nothing has been cut (since the

and sometimes fade into the next scene instead of the next commercial break.

I've always wondered something about this episode,
and seeing it today brought it up again. Those who
were with the list when the show was in first run, and
Mr. Bennett was on list, do you recall any mention
of what they were going for in the very intimate
scene in the beginning between the soon to be
murdered woman and her female superior?
Was the intimacy/sexuality of this scene purposeful?
Was it just a red herring to make us wonder later
if the female doc hadn't done it?

My favorite episodes are Close Call, The Fix, Fever, and the Valentine's Day one.
Close Call has definitely impacted my writing, LOL! Ever since I read the episode
summary on a site I had been waiting to see it. When I finally did see it for
the first time, I had gotten the idea to do a story where Schanke knew Nick's
secret, except the idea ended up becoming much more than that.

I liked the Fix because it portrayed Nick as very human (not unlike the other
episodes, but more so) and there were a few humorous bits throughout that episode.
I like humor, but it has to always take a back seat when drama/action is heavily
involved in the plot.

I thought Fever was one of the best episodes for dramatic quality -- I'm not a
huge Screed fan, but I liked it anyway.

I'm also a romantic at heart, so I enjoyed the Be My Valentine ep a great deal.
That was one of the episodes that really got me interested in FK in the first
place, because it didn't show vampires as just B-movie monsters, but rather as
thinking and feeling intelligent beings who were at least as human as the rest
of us (or perhaps more so). :)

I will probably forget some of what I consider my
favorites, but here is a few.
The Fix: because of the acting. I think it was one
of the best ones for that reason.
For I Have Sinned: because of the interaction between
Nick and Schanke. Also it shows how hard it is to
overcome his fear of the cross and the church. The
favorite part is in the confessional.  ;}
Be My Valentine: Because of the interaction and
developement of Nick and Nat's hoped for relationship.
I like a lot of the first season eps, because of the
Nick and Schanke angle and because there is still a
lot of the dark in Nick and you see the struggle he
goes through with the vampire. I could go on and on,
but I won't. :} Phylis

What's happened with them is, Geocities took them all down. :( I only found
this out when the prof I research for expressed interest in one of my web
pages and when I gave her the link, it came up blank. I e-mailed to ask them
why they've basically obliterated my entire web page (including a non-FK
page I've had there for 5 years) but haven't gotten a response yet.

I'm more than willing to e-mail any videos people may want, and if anyone
wants to host them, or can tell me how I can get them set up somewhere, feel
free to jump in. Tracey Rayner is very kindly hosting a few of the early
ones for me (*waves to Tracey*).

E-mail me privately for a complete list of all available vids (I've made new
ones since the page was last updated).

Sorry for the inconvenience, Jeannie, but I'm glad to hear you enjoy them.

My favorites are:

--the pilot (classic Schanke, and Nick's line -- "Will Somebody shoot
me---please?")
--Close Call (more great Schanke, and that last scene between him and LC--wow!
Is that scary or what?)
--Queen of Harps (Mortal Nick, so naive and idealistic; lovely soundtrack; yeah,
it's bad history, but a nice romantic story; and the little in-joke where Nick
keeps correcting people that the harp's from Wales, not Ireland or England <g>;
and oh, yeah, Nick-On-A-Horse)
--Sons of Belial (hey, I *am* in the UF! <g>)
--Father's Day (More UF!)
--Hunted (Nick says, "Come to me..." and I about jump through the TV screen <g>;
and I love that actress who played the whacked-out huntress)

oh, golly, I love a lot more eps. But these are the ones I tend to rewatch when
I need a good FK fix.

How have they affected my fanfic? Well, I think my flashback Nick is the one we
see in QoH. And the relationship between Nick and LC we see in the UFfish eps is
the one I try to write. And I prefer Schanke to Tracy as Nick's partner---so I
really like all the Schanke eps and write him into my fanfics.

Some people really do quite suddenly accept the fact they are gay, believe it
or not, even after having been in relationship with people of the opposite
sex.

So I guess having gay people on a show makes it cheap? I'm really surprised
more of the Rainbow Knights haven't stepped forward on this one.

Actually, FEVER was a great parallel between the gay community and the FK
universe vampire community. I guess the time was just not right to say it too
directly. Though I think to have done it more directly might have made the
episode a little too "in your face." In my opinion, the script is nearly
perfect - tight and with no padding. I agree with another fan on this list
who said BtVS's "Hush" is great. That is also a fantastic piece of writing
and acting. Very creepy and fun!

Of course I don't expect everyone to like BtVS, nor do I expect everyone to
like FK. They are too very different shows but are both favorites of mine,
though I fully expect others to have other favorite shows.

De-lurking to add my $0.02 on BtVS and FK:

The earlier seasons of Buffy - set in the high school- was definitely less
on "skin thrills". Lately all Buffy ever seems to do is well...Spike. I
think this shift to more "adult" stuff is what's making the show somewhat
"devalued"...rather than the introduction of the Willow-Tara relationship.

I miss more of the wisecracking stuff and the Scooby gang working together
as a vamp-fighting machine.

Libs is right to say that FK and BtVS are two very different shows.
I guess I'd like to see more Spike's character than his bod. Not that it's a
bad one <g> but Nick was a heck lot sexier and he never took much off at
all.

I made this remark somewhere previously, the FK vamps seemed more "real"
because they seemed to communicate more of their inner emotions than the
BtVS vamps. In a sense, these days BtVS seem like a bunch of randy teenagers
turned vamp - stuck in perpetual hormone overdrive.

Sigh, I miss FK....

Back to lurkdom.

Ell
Who is still saving $$ to buy the FK DVDs which may or may not materialise.
And Sony, if you see this - please, put FK on your AXN-Asia channel. If AXN
can run the original Charlie's Angels, it can jolly well run FK.

Subject: memories in flash--Part 1

My memories of becoming a fan are kind of like a story.
They span over a decade and three different continents;
there are some bizarre occasions in them too. I have
turned it into a list, as short as it could get. Bare
with me, you won’t regret it. Here it goes:

-Tehran, Iran, early 90’s: Family rents a pirated VHS
tape (the only thing available to us in that kind of
country) of a movie about a cop who was a vampire and
romanced a blonde museum curator. At the end my mom
exclaims: “That didn’t look like a movie. That looked
like the first episode of a TV show.”

-Dortmund, Germany, mid 90’s: There is this show on TV
with a blond guy who was a vampire and a cop. Only saw
glimpses of it, and never long enough to pay attention. I
assume it must be that TV show mom talked about.

-Vancouver, Canada, late 90’s: Same show, same story, in
English this time. Dad likes it and watches it
occasionally. I do too, as I’m getting increasingly
addicted to vampires and watching Buffy all the time.
Wondering how in the world the blonde museum curator
turned into a brunette.

-Vancouver, Canada, 2000: Have grown a fondness for
vampires. Buffy, in its third season, is not fun anymore
because it has turned into a monster fest and totally
lost the vampire charm. In search of a vampire fix I turn
into literature. Read a great vampire book, search for
more books by the same author but can’t find them at the
library. In desperation and total boredom I go to the
Internet and decided to find good vampire fiction online
(this is totally out of a whim). But where to start?
Perhaps there will be something about that vampire/cop TV
show online? Do the search. Get to fkfanfic.com. Find
over 1500 stories, wow, long ones too, wow, GOOD ones
too, WOW.
