Subject: Re: Fanfic and Fanfic.net

Fanfic.net has been around for awhile. It experienced some 'growth'
problems recently when a similar archive site bit the dust and it inherited
the orphans. Sometimes it is 'down', but I've never known it to be so for
more than a 24hr period. It also had to start advertising ads to take up
the considerable cost of running the thing.

You can archive your things by html format or by text.file. Chaptering
allows you to add to the story. (This is a very new function they just added
this year.)

Is it worth posting there?

Yes! Of course!

I check out Fanfic.net everyday, and always seem to find something I enjoy
like a Last Unicorn story Saturday. I've found X-men, Star Trek, Star
Wars, yadda, yadda. Yesterday, I discovered I liked Digimon's Wizardmon.
Who'd a thought? :) The point is is that if FK is out there it is more
likely to be discovered. If it's NOT out there, how'z anybody going to go
"Oh, wow! What neato characters!".

It would especially be wonderful if crossover stories where posted there.
You can post a story in two different categories, so TV Crossover and FK it.
Someone looking for stories for the other show may find they like these
strange vampire people as well. As soon as I get back my last xover from
the editor, I plan on doing this.

Should this replace the ftp site? Heaven's no! I like having our own site,
and you never know if Fanfic.net will bite the dust like its former
competitor. (Which is another reason to keep more than one archive going,
IMHO.) Fanfic.net does, however, have one thing that I dearly miss from
Mel's site: a New Stories category with dates. One stop to see if anything
new has come down.

fanfic.net is an anime fan fiction site
The link that I posted is for fanfiction.net which is for all sorts of stories.

Nick came home from a short vacation to find both Wilbur and Charlotte gone.
No web over his bed... no warm pig greeting welcoming home.

"They've left me," he thought morosely. "Just when Charlotte was going to
give me the secret to becoming mortal and getting out ketchup stains, too."

Or maybe LaCroix had shown up?

But the truth was worse than that.
Far, far worse, as Nick discovered the next day at work as his new partner,
Donald G. Schanke pulled out his lunchbox and proceeded to chow down.

"Yeah, Nick," the somewhat portly detective managed to get out over a greasy
mouthful of his ham sandwitch as the vampire looked on in horrific
realization---too late recalling just *who* he had asked to loft-sit for him
while he was gone, "You wouldn't *believe* the cobwebs I found in your
place. It was disgusting. There was even a spider above your bed! But I
took care of it all for you, pard, cause I'm such a pal."

The next evening no one seemed to know why Detective Schanke had not shown
up for his work shift.

There's been discussion on the list that the blood on Serena's face is
actually a smear from her feeding. She would not have been in the mood to
take time to feed neatly nor would she have been interested in cleaning up
since she was so upset about not succeeding.

When I looked carefully at the scene, it seemed to me that this is the most
likely explanation. However, YMMV

I was checking this out and uploading a couple of my stories from last year
to see how fanfiction.net worked, and one thing the rules said was:
"There can only be one copy of any unique story on the entire site. No
exceptions. Crossovers are not exempt from this rule."

:(
This made things a little tricky - you have to choose between 'Crossover,' 'TV
Crossover,' plus the categories for the individual shows.

Mel is sort of OK. Her overall health isn't very good, and she's been
feeling pretty lousy of late. She's also had to switch jobs because her
employer got bought out by another company and most of her division was
laid off. So her life kind of stinks right now. But she hasn't forgotten
the site, and she and Jamie are working together on a fairly major update.

I've seen some relatively snarky comments lately on this list about the
fkfanfic site not being updated often enough to suit people. I'd just like
to remind everybody that Mel has busted her tuchus for this fandom for
*years* and to ask for a little bit of understanding right now. I realize
that everyone wants to see the newest fiction ASAP, but you've got to
remember that there are real human beings with sometimes-difficult lives
behind any web site, and that those people DO read this list and DO have
feelings.

Please relay my sympathy and support! The reason I asked about
www.fkfanfic.com and JADFE is that these are the two sites I go to most
often (no offense to any other archivers). My mind boggles at the amount of
work it must take to maintain the fanfic site.

I want to heartily thank *everyone* who maintains fic archives, pic
archives, links pages and faction pages. I also want to thank Nancy K. for
doing the work behind the FK Fanfic Awards, all the dedicated fans who work
on the KtK, and Don and McLisa.

And now that I'm embarrassed at gushing so much, I'll slink off the

Yes, web sites do take work. There were several times when my websites weren't

Especially when you have one or two webmasters making all the graphics, writing,

Yeah, I guess that's true. Maybe it's just me. Somehow, I put the person

Poor Richard, he died twice in that episode. First as a mortal from a
gunshot, and then as a vampire by Nick's hand. However, if Richard had
later come to learn that his big sister was in love with a vampire that was
on the side of good, I believe that he would have accepted Nick
wholeheartedly. I really think they could have been friends. Richard would
not even have to worry that Nick would take advantage of his sister, that is
as long as he was well fed. Maybe Richard, Nick, and Nat could have opened
their own little office. They would have all the bases covered. Nat could
gather the forensics clues, Nick could capture the perps, and Richard could
prosecute. Sort of their own version of "Law and Order."<g>

I do believe that Richard would have no problem with Nick as soon as he
became accustomed to the idea that vampires exist.
