Ya know... I could swear that I read two different zany tellings with Nick
as Dorothy. I don't think they were at www.fkfanfic.com though.

I distinctly remember Schanke being a Godfather-ish type whether as the
wizard or as the Wicked Witch.

Or have I just gone off the deep end?

To answer my own post. :)

One was by Erika Wilson named "The Yellow Brick Road".

The other was possibly by one of the Lurkers who wrote in the early years.
I'm not sure.

Hi Everyone:

Okay, I can see everything else...but question,
if you put Janette in the witch's role, wouldn't
Natalie be good as Gelinda? (Sorry, my spelling
is going to heck in a hand basket tonight...)

And then, what do you do with LaCroix? (Oh, this
is a loaded question.....)

If you are on the Forever Knight Webring, over the age of 18, and willing to
contact the management of said Ring, please e-mail me so I can point out a
bit of garbage to them.

I'd do it myself, but I'm not a registered user.

I went to the web ring and emailed the owner of the ring about that site. I
wonder how long it has been there.

The Wizard, of course!

Now, if Natalie is Dorothy, and Sydney is Toto, do we have Nick as the Tinman or
the Lion? I vote for Tinman, since Nick has plenty of courage.

Okay, Janette didn't really undergo that metamorphosis into
a caricature of mortality/normality: unstylish, unhip, shorn of
her usual charisma and panache. But I just wondered what would
would have been the result if the makers had chosen a different FK
vampire to makeover, in a similar storyline. I just had a disturbing
image of Lacroix sporting a ponytail, wearing ancient cord flares and
sounding like Brett Butler ---not that there's anything wrong with her
accent, I hasten to add -- I enjoy listening to it, but it's just a little
incongruous for him. I can't imagine what they would've done to
Screed and Vachon. <g>

and rep ties.
(2) Made them into sleazy Vegas gambler stereotypes.
(3) Made them into rodeo riders (Screed as the bullrider, Vachon as the
rodeo clown).

Mmm. Give the boys sunglasses. Have them steal the Caddy
and tell Nick that they are on "a mission from LaCroix" and run
around Toronto assembling the whole crew for the big vampire
festival at the end.

Screed: "It's three hours to dawn. We have a full tank of gas.
Two dead rats. It's dark and we're wearing sunglasses."

Well, it depends if you're thinking of the book or the movie. If it's the
book, then Janette as Glinda, the beautiful, slinky good witch of the South
is perfect. Tracy could still be the good witch of the North, although
she's young for the part, but a little makeup can take care of that.

For the wicked witch of the West, who but Divia? And for the wicked witch
of the East, perhaps one of Nick's victims (Gee, I didn't mean to have the
house fall on her and kill her. Oh, the angst!)

>And who else but Syndey as the show-stealing Toto?

LOL! Perfect! I can just see him, doing that little cat growl in objection
to the scottish terrier costume we've dressed him in.

I picture Schanke as the Cowardly Lion. And before I'm
berated by Schanke fans, including myself, remember
that the Lion wasn't really a coward. He just thought
he was until the chips were down.

Natalie as Glenda the Good, I think.

Screed as Head Munchkin?

The Ratsie Wot Kilt Screed as Toto?

Liam O'Neill (or however the surname was spelled in
the script) as the Wizard

LaCroix in drag as the Wicked Witch of the West?

Nick in drag as Dorothy?

What's really scary is that having seen Ger as Klaus
("the Unstable Vampire") in Dracula: The Series, I
really _can_ imagine Ger in drag having a wonderful
time playing Dorothy!

Subject: Human Factor

Someone said they didn't like "Human Factor" very much because the fact
that Janette was able to stumble on the cure Nick had been searching for for
centuries put Nick in a bad light. It made it seem that Nick didn't
love Nat enough to effect the cure.

To this I would add that HF could make Natalie seem a bit too concerned
about her self-preservation when she tells Nick *right away* that she
understands why he would be unwilling to put her life at risk.

But we can't leave things like this! We must think! We must chow down
parmesan and think some more!!

Janette did not become mortal until after the death of her beloved.
The implication was that the shock of his death caused the
transformation to become complete. Naturally, Nick would not wish to
undertake any cure that would require him to sacrifice Natalie.
Whether the death of the beloved was truly necessary was left
ambiguous, thus making it possible for Natalie to persuade Nick to
try it in the last episode.

There may also have been another difficulty. We learned in "Baby, Baby"
that what works for the goose, does not automatically work for the
gander. Serena could become human by having a child by a mortal man, who would
die (his death, according to LC, "went without saying"). If the mortal's
death "goes without saying", then it would be a bit difficult for a male
vampire to become mortal by having a child by a mortal woman. It may also be
that sipping while making love would be easier for a female vampire, because
it is easier for a female to take a more passive role. (I'm trying to be
circumspect here.) Lisa didn't send me any warning messages the last
time I brought this up; sorta would like to keep it that way....

Hi Everyone:

I was waiting for Serena to enter the picture...
I must admit that I've had always wondered why
she failed in "Baby, Baby". The moon was right,
her companion had the right chromosome,
etc....but...

1.) She didn't love the man. (Positive passion
generates a strong inner light. Using someone to
get to one's end doesn't qualify. With Janette
in HF, she loved Robert...)

2.) She still harbored ill-will toward Nick.
Again, is acceptance of vampirism (and
responsibility for one's condition) necessary to
find a cure? Both Nick and Serena hadn't
accepted their conditions as purely their
choice... Janette had long since accepted her
vampirism.

Another unrelated question: is the reason why LC
doesn't tell Nick the whole story is because he
legitimately didn't know it, wanted to torture
his protege, was keeping back vital details, or
all of the above? (With LC, one should always
study the man behind the curtain.... :) )

Oh well, that's enough parmesan (sp?) from me
since my bottle just went dry! <grins--as he
jumps off the soapbox.> Thanks for listening!

Sincerely,

David

Subject: (OT?) Merc Web page Update

Hello everyone, I've gone through and tweaked the Merc Central Webpages a
little.

The first major change is that it is now at-

http://www.geocities.com/forevermerc/

Secondly, I need some help:

There are some sites that are either outdated or missing from my lists. For
example: FoDs, Knighties, the fkfic site...

Could the different factions take a look at the Merc faction list? If
your're missing and wish more advertising, or the url is wrong/old contact
me with your faction name and the url for your faction page. That's if you
have one, if not- tell me you don't have one. I would appreciate it very
very very very very much.

Our list of faction pages also leads to pictures of the various characters
(or combinations) that the faction supports. If someone has better pictures
for a faction (or more), and you can distribute them, let me know.

Also, please report any other broken links to me.

There is also a picture of some Natpackers with a former Merc GHP outside a
Madison, WI, Red Lobster. If the Natpack could take a look at it and let me
know who else is in the picture, I'd appreciate that as well. Also, which
former GHP is it? My visual history of my fellow Mercs is not good.

Also, if anyone has suggestions for the page, please let me know.

And to hold down on list traffic, please respond off-list to me.

Thanks in advance-

Well, Nick loves Janette, LaCroix and Janette love Nick, Vachon loves Urs
(sorta), etc. As for, er, 'making love', remember that in the series we are
never shown that the FK vampires can't "make love from the waist down",
although that was the opinion of one of the producers (can't remember who).
I don't see why they can't, but this is a PG list, so...
