You're very welcome. If you're curious for more details (since I got
more into it than I probably should have, yet barely scratched the
surface), check out:

http://www.linenweb.com

That's what I love about this fandom: almost nine years, and we're still
coming up with the coolest tangents to go off on! (Frighteningly
enough, this wasn't as bad or as hopelessly tangential as the last
textile history geekbabble I zoomed off on in a different fandom...)

And this notion of tactile hypersensitivity may have come up as a joke,
but it *is* a logical extension of the enhanced-senses concept. The
Vampire and the Pea? *snerk* I do think you hit on something there.
Makes me wonder about Nick's various Penance Boy phases. Mortals did
hair shirts; maybe he just had to find something cheap for the same
effect! ;-)

It could also be part and parcel of what seems to be a pretty universal
vampiric taste for sumptuous stuff in amazing textures. I've always
figured they liked things to be as beautiful to the touch as to the eye,
but it makes good sense that anything less would just make them nuts.
Take those elements and throw in, say, Janette's psychological issues
about the trappings of poverty, and you've got an unshakeable insistence
on Only The Finest. Interesting stuff...

Oh,

Kind of like Screed! He insists on ONLY the finest from-the-garbage-bin
attire! Won't settle for less! Wot a fast-honed type o' droog, eh?

Aargh! Now I'm wondering whose garbage bin Screed is pilfering from?

Nick's? It's well ventilated what with all of those bullet holes.
Vachon's? Hair-oil stained leather?
LaCroix's? I don't think the old bean would be terribly pleased by seeing
the carouche wearing his cast-offs.
(And please--for the sake of what is left of my mind---nobody postulate the
ratboy in Janette Wear.)

But then there is the question...what *does* happen to old vampire clothes?
Do they become possessed from absorbing Evil after lengthy wearing--Like the
Evil Pink Shirt?
If Nick bleeds on his poet top, does he then have to stake it or leave it
out to burn in the morning sun lest it be 'reborn'?

Thoughts to ponder.

And why not???

You obviously haven't read Greg Kramer's books. Okay, they have nothing to do
with Forever Knight or Screed, but Screed in Janette's cast off evening gowns
would fit RIGHT in any of his stories.

hehehehe

But I don't think Screed would resort to a wig. 'Is dome 'iz rather attached

Waah! I don't believe it!!!
For the first time, I actually sent something to a private mailbox rather
than to the main list---instead o' the other way around! [Kyer looks
fearfully upwards, wondering if the sky is falling... gotta be an omen of
some sort.] Anyways, here is what Forkni-l was supposed to receive:

BTW, the discussion started as a joking response to Kyer. <waves>)
> Molly/StormBorn

[Kyer waves right back]
Yep, it started when I joked about Nick's chafing from wearing armor next to
sensitive vampire skin (sensitive as dictated by many a fanfic story).
As a matter of fact, I love wool products like alpaca. Especially SmartWool
socks which do not 'pick' at all.

Can somebody tell me what kind of 'top' LC was wearing in the flashback
where he brings Nick across? It's really a fancy looking blue one with the
sweeping metal embroidery going around the neck from shoulder to shoulder.
Was wondering what he was passing himself off as. A duke? What?

Remembering that V4S normally posts 5 parts per day... am I missing part 5

I also did not recieve this, and I had all my settings
turned on, so even if it was adult I should have gotten it.

I remember having problems posting my last story to
FKFIC-L. If you don't wait at least 24 hours before
posting parts, one part might not get through. I waited 24
hours by the time stamp and parts of my story still got
rejected at first, but when I waited a bit longer, they
posted fine. I'm not sure this is the case here, but it
might be.

I'll make arrangements for Part 1 to be posted.

There is a three posts per 24 hrs limit programmed
into the listserv for Fkfic-l and I don't have the
ability to waive it. By the Book will, alas, just have
to be 3 parts per day until it's finished.

Historical note: The limit is there because we used to
have problems with people's posting large numbers of
parts daily, thereby jamming the Fkfic-l disc at PSU
and getting us into difficulties with the
administration there.

I'm 160 miles south in xxxxxxx, and though we didn't feel it nearly as much as
Seattle did, it felt like a 4.0+ down here. I'm on the top (5th) floor of a
large building, and everything shook really hard -- but it was short.

We're getting non-stop news coverage from Seattle, and thankfully there haven't
been any reported fatalities. They're advising that 200,000 homes don't have
electricity and most of the phone lines are jammed. It might be awhile before
Seattle area people can get online and let us know they're okay.

Hearing that a 7.0 quake hit, I immediately think of how disastrous an event
this would be in other parts of the world where you hear of this size quake
killing tens of thousands. In comparison, it appears Seattle came through
relatively unscathed. I hope it stays that way.
