From the clothes, that's 150 years too late, but I can see why she thinks
that - the only Dauphin that did actually go missing was during the French
revolution, the poor little guy (only a child at the time) was imprisoned
after his parents were killed, and was said to have died in prison. For the
last couple of centuries people have claimed that he was spirited out of
prison by loyalists, and some other poor innocent child died in hideous
conditions in his place. However, recent DNA tests on the remains of the
one that died in prison seem to indicate that he was indeed the Dauphin, and
died around the age of 12.

However, this is a known missing Dauphin around the time of the revolution
or not long after, hence Amy R.'s date (I bet - I haven't asked her).
But it still doesn't work, because the Dauphin in the story was set up as a
parallel to Sean duChamp - he wanted money from his father (the king), and
when his father wouldn't give him any, he tried to extort it by having
himself 'kidnapped', with the intention of keeping most of the ransom money
for himself. But then Nick and the other baddie killed him and kept it for
themselves, etc etc.

Presumably the "blood money" isn't weighing Nick down yet because he just
got it that instant.

That flashback was weird all round, though. LaCroix warning Nick that
"material wealth is a curse" - this is LaCroix? Whom I've never thought
short of a few dollars... And then it begins with LaCroix & Janette dropping
a ragged corpse into a grave (or something) and complaining about 'the
quality of the prey around here lately' and what they've been reduced to,
and that it's time to move on. But I thought a) vampires routinely prey on
the poor and homeless, so there would be nothing exceptional in the ragged
corpse they'd just murdered, and b) vampires try to avoid exposure, and
therefore generally avoid killing people who would be missed, i.e. rich
people, members of the ruling class?

Klytaimnestra asked who played the bad guy in Blood Money.

It was Colm Feore, who also played Nick's cohort in the flashback whom Nick
later betrayed. Feore asked not to be credited --it had something to do
with the ridiculousness of the circumstance of his appearing on poor,
low-budget FK (correct me if I have some of this wrong): 1) GWD
picked him up at the airport and put him up at his own home 2) CF
brought along his Cyrano de Bergerac costume, wig, and facial hair to
wear in the flashback. How much of this was actually due to budget & how much
had to do with the fact that GWD & CF are good friends who have often appeared
on stage together, I do not know.

IIRC, 'Rag and Bone' was a series pilot that CBS considered, but didn't
pick up around 1998. This is the first I've heard of anyone actually getting
to see it broadcast - Kewl!

In terms of other work, there's 'Voyagers!' a JP series that lasted for one
season on NBC in 1982. Yes, this predates FK, but I've seen several mentions
of it on TV in the past year because the lead actor, Jon-Erik Hexum, died in
1984 in a some-say-mysterious prop accident. In some ways, the series was
FK-With-Training-Wheels.
I was only 11 when I watched it (still have my Scholastic Reader copy of
the pilot!), but I'd have been on a mailing list for the show lickety split
if PCs and the Internet had been in wide use back then.
The show didn't have vampires, but there's...

- The Blond haired, blue eyed lead was played by an actor with three names
- A lost boy character with long, dark curly hair
- A Battle of Hastings fiasco
- An Ancient Roman episode
- The main guy who torments the hero winds up responsible for Jack the Ripper
- bimbos of the week
- Phineas Bogg (lead character) was on the Titanic.
- Phineas Bogg was a brick.
- The show was all flashbacks.
- One episode features a DaVinci painting
- In one epsiode, the dark-haired lost boy catches a virus and the blond-haired,
blue-eyed hero gets the cure just in time!

What's sad is that *this* has a video you can purchase, albeit a poorly
edited version of the pilot meshed in with other episode material,
but you can BUY it. I paid $40 for the thing through Amazon.com
and the show's been gone almost 20 years! Hello?! The market for
FK videos swamps this! There are probably more fans on this one
list than even remember 'Voyagers!' existed, but those fans have a video!

I learned early never to drink around my poor computer when reading Wars (or
other similar fics, like the NA offerings). Too many keyboards ruined, not
enough thirsts quenched.... And War 8 certainly had it's larger than
average collection of War insanity... vampires appearing in bathtubs and
fridges and everywhere else, carouches going after pet guinea pigs, Alice in
Wonderland, Screeds in tutus, Schanke ala Wild West, penguins and long
haired Vachon-fishes.... (And this I cut my teeth on. Of course, I didn't
have too much to offer in the way of *humor*....)

Favorite War moment? Could never ever decide. :>

It's correct that Wars 9 and 10 aren't archived? Or have I just yet to find
the links?

Dante Hicks: "Empire".
Randal: Blasphemy!
Dante Hicks: "Empire" had the better ending. I mean, Luke gets his hand cut

It ends on such a down note. I mean, that's what life is, a series of down

Portia trying to rationalize the "dauphin" reference (and believe me -- I'm
willing to strain pretty far to find a rationalization! "g"): whichever era
it was, Nick *did* kill the dauphin of the time and poor LaCroix had to work
*pretty* hard to cover up his boy's mess! Let's see...hmmm.....He whammied
everyone into thinking the guy was still alive, but "just in the other room"
or "taking a 'powder break'" or "not yet back from vacation" -- a perpetual
"out of sight" person! "g" Or they worked it out to make everyone think it
was a "natural" death, and the kidnapping was "forgotten" and so left out of
history. Or some poor (lucky?) schmuck (along with the other releveant
people) was induced into believing himself the dauphin and had a long and
lustrious(? "g") reign.

Okay, that's enough -- my rationalizer is getting sore! LOL

Hello, back at ya, Bonnie! I remember this show, and I totally agree with
everything you said! BTW, read your SandTC crossover with FK and LOVED it!
Anything else new going on at your site? I need to visit -- I'm eagerly
awaiting the next in the "Claire" series. Gotta find out what's gonna
happen with Ivy and Vachon, and Nick and Nat. Loved where you left LaCroix
and Nick -- rather uncomfortable, but intriguing point in their
relationship!

The following are the War links that I've found:

Wars 1-4 are at the fkfanfic site
http://www.fkfanfic.com/fanfic/wars.htm

War 5
http://www-personal.umich.edu/~weyrbrat/war5/

War 6 was a letter writing campaign to TPTB

War 7 (the Vaq part) used to be on the Church site, but the link is
dead. (Callalily?)
http://users.lanminds.com/~callalily/forever_knight/fkwar7.html

War 8 is in a different section of fkfanfic
http://www.fkfanfic.com/war/war8/index.htm

War 9 courtesy of the List Gardener
http://www.geocities.com/Athens/7139/war9ldrs.htm#war9_archives

War 10 is in one big 5MB chunk at the ftp site
ftp://ftp.win.net/winnet/fkvoyage/fkfanfic/war_10/

If anyone knows where I can find a live link for War 7, please let me
know.

Several people have added to the list of factions given in
McLisa's original post, but what should be reiterated and
a war newbie should know is that NOT ALL of these factions
participate in the wars. Many of the smaller 'relationship
factions' or 'factions based on personal interests' have too
few members to play or their members have multi-affiliations
and may choose to play with their other, bigger factions.

The list of factions that played in war 10 could provide a first guess
http://www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/Lot/9686/index_factions.html
about who might or might not be playing this time.
