I haven't had that much problems with FK fans (so don't worry that I'm

HAVE TIME TO CHAT RIGHT NOW" and insist on IMing me every time I log on for
the entire time I'm on! I've had to block people. I have a life outside of

CURRENT RAFFLE # 30

Begins: January 27th, 2001
Ends: February 16th, 2001
Item: Forever Knight novel signed by Geraint Wyn Davies as Nick Knight
This copy of "Forever Knight: Intimations of Mortality" was signed by
Geraint Wyn Davies in December, 1998, at the Weekend with Ger #4. But
there's a twist - Ger signed the book "Love, Nick Knight." So this copy of
the book is well and truly signed by Nick himself.

You are eligible to enter to win this item if you did
                     NOT
attend the following cons or events:

* Weekend With Ger IV (December 1998)
* Weekend With Ger V (December 1999)

Please note that ALL raffle items are accompanied by a certificate of
authenticity which tells you where the item came from, who signed it, who
witnessed the signature, and when and where the item was signed. All
signatures are original and genuine.

There is no purchase of a raffle ticket or any monetary donation required.
We do, however, ask that you write ONE letter to one of the many addresses
we have listed at our webpage, to support a Forever Knight television
movie, release of more Forever Knight soundtrack cassette tapes and CDs,
and licensing and production of more Forever Knight video tapes, novels and
other tie-in books.

The letter you wrote last week, last month, or even yesterday does NOT
count. PLEASE honor the spirit in which these raffles are held - write your
qualifying letter and drop an email note to Rae Plachecki
(Javiette@a.......), telling her who you wrote to and when, and what
affiliation you are, if any. The future of these raffles is in your hands.

Use the raffle website entry form to enter
(http://members.aol.com/fkraffle/fkraffle.htm)

or

send an e-mail to fkraffle@a....... and include

1.Your real name
2.Your snail address

In addition to writing a letter, if you haven't done so already, please
take the time to visit
http://www.fortunecity.com/lavender/casablanca/433/index.html to e-sign a
petition to have FK released on professional tapes and or DVD!

At 11:59 PM, on Friday, February 16th, all e-mail entries will be dumped
into a bag, shuffled, and one name will be drawn. The winner will be
notified on Saturday, February 17th and will be asked if their name and
city/state may be posted. The prize will be mailed priority rate within 2
-3 days.

After the winners have been drawn, the contest entries are destroyed. None
of these names or addresses will be kept or compiled for any sort of
listing. Names and snail-mail addresses are asked as a security measure
(and to assist me in quickly mailing out the raffle prize). THEY ARE NOT
GIVEN TO ANYONE. EVER.

This raffle will be advertised on the ForKni-L list, the Forever Knight
newsgroup, the AOL Forever Knight Board, and the SciFi Channel Dominion
Forever Knight bulletin board.

Hi All,
due to my recent computer problems I lost the addresses to
all my "favorite places" on the Internet. I have been able to
rediscover most of them but there is one I can't find. It was
a web site that had loads and loads of FK photos, including a section
that included all the major and reoccurring characters. I want
to say the site was created by somebody named Nancy.
Does this sound familiar to anybody? If you know where this is
I would love to know the addy.

Thanks.

I dunno, but with permission of the authors, I would think that a printed out
copy of some fanfic might make a delightful addition to some of the auction
packages for KtK and the GWD charities. Dontcha think? You wouldn't be
selling, you'd spare some other person from printing the stories out

I believe that you join a faction by just declaring that you have
that affiliation. Put it in you .sig file or just below your name
if you don't have a sig file, instead of sending a message to the
list JUST to make that announcement. <g> (The list hampsters will
thank you.)

But joining a faction is NOT the same as saying that you want to
play along with that faction in a war. Some faction members
choose not to play/don't have the time, etc. And some factions
themselves don't play in the war. And some individuals
who do not have any faction affiliations still play in the war.

To play in a war you need to have sent in a permission slip for that war.
Generally this is done THRU the faction leaders. If you do not have
any affiliations or choose to play as an independent, generally you
send your permission slip directly to the war master/mistress.
(They will make an announcement ahead of time specifying how.)

(Btw, war newbies should NOT play as an independent, imo. You need
to play along with an established faction in order to learn how the
game is played.)

Some factions will allow non-members to play along with them in the
war. Their war leaders will send messages to the list, actively trying
to recruit participants.

hope this helps,

If you know that you want to play with a particular faction, you contact
the leader(s) of that faction. When War is close, the leaders announce
themselves and invite folks to contact them. If you are undecided, you can
either play with the Diehards or as an independent.

should things go awry (and they always do, or maybe that's just my faction.

on the faction mail lists, but not always. I think I can safely say that
once war details (dates and faction leaders) are worked out, leaders will
send invitations to the lists, telling listees who to contact for which
faction they want to play with.
By the way, I can't wait :) I love it!

Do you consider Close Call *the* or *a* valid end to second season? - I
don't recall what episode originally ended second season in production
and/or airing order? Does anyone remember and does it matter to you? Or
do we all accept SciFi's use of Close Call as the "Official" end to second
season?

If you do accept it as the end of second season...how do you think things
stand at the end of the ep?
Below is my opinion, I'm very interested in hearing the perspectives of
both newbies and old timers.
                                *********************
When the second season ended the first time around no one knew what would
happen both behind and in front of the camera. Close Call although never
designed as Schanke's swan song is the closest to a closure ep we have for
him.

Schanke figures it out about Nick and runs the gamut of emotions before
settling on loyalty and friendship. Schanke finally meets LC and has a
rather interesting interaction with him, did LaCroix whammy him or just
persuade, did Schanke really decide Nick is Human or just that it doesn't
matter we never really know especially if this is the end of the
season. It also makes it possible that LC had something to do with
Schanke's death or conversely that the third season changes in LC might be
the natural evolution from that final scene.

IMO Scifi made a good choice both dramatically and financially by moving
that ep in light of how the third season began. What do you think?

Subject: Admin: What's a war, Mommy? :)

Yes, I know I said that hereafter we'd use the war
topic. That was before I realized that some things
will need to be explained to everyone so we can decide
if we want to play.

A war is a large-scale online role-playing game of
sorts. The premise is different each time, depending
on what the warmistress (it's usually a warmistress)
has come up with. The FK universe is real in war
time. The characters lead their factions (e.g.,
LaCroix and the Cousins, Nick and the Knighties) as
they all try to accomplish whatever the goal is. This
leads to inter-faction battles, pranks, etc.

The main thing to remember is that wars are supposed
to be fun and _funny._ This is not war as wargamers
understand it. Attacks consist of things like the time
I, playing as an independent instead of a Cousin,
arranged for the Ratpack to introduce a thousand
glow-in-the-dark pink rats into the Cousin
headquarters at CERK.

Everyone who is subscribed to whatever venue we use is
eligible to play, provided he or she has filed an
e-permission slip. More on that later. The main thing
is that because real people can't be depicted without
their consent, we have to have permissions on file for
everyone who plans to play. To prevent complete chaos
we don't allow crossovers with other shows in wartime.

A war-time persona is the player's self. You can
enhance yourself somewhat, for instance by giving
yourself a really great laptop or more ability at
programming and hacking than you actually have. But
unless you really are a martial arts expert or really
do own a Cray supercomputer, you can't do that in
wartme. No non-human personas or powers are allowed.

You don't have to affiliate with a faction to play.
I've been asked what a faction is. It's the
fans/followers of a particular character. Some
factions have subdivisions. A list of those I can
remember in my current groggy state:

Knighties: Nick
Cousins: LaCroix (why Cousins is a long story)
Natpack: Nat
F.O.D.S. (inactive): Schanke
Ravenettes: (not very active): Janette
Perks: Tracy
Vaqueras: Vachon
Ratpack: Screed

I'm sure the ones I've forgotten will make themselves
known. :)

The factions attack each other and/or the characters.
The first wars allowed attacks by individuals on
individuals. I want to get back to that kind of
spontaneity.

Several of the early wars are on the net. A search key
of +"Forever Knight" +war should find them.

Above all, this is very preliminary. No war will
start until a date has been chosen and people have had
plenty of warning.

Which lead to one of my cats (who always attend the Wars) dropping a pink
rat corpse on Uncle's head while I was standing in his office. Quite an
interesting experience ...

Was it only a thousand? Seems like those little buggers multiplied
exponentially and were *everywhere* the rest of that War. And pink seemed
to be the signature color, too.
