Write for the Knight! (this section is for snail mail writers! (VERY
important to keep doing!)

Let’s redouble our efforts and really let "The Powers That Be" know that we
want more Forever Knight!
Do not be discouraged just because its not shown now!! schedules change on
Sci-Fi all the time.
The main idea is to be honest. Tell them your age,
where you live, how long you've been watching Forever Knight and how much
you'd like to see it back on TV. Do not, however, put anything on the
envelope that might indicate you are a FK fan or are writing about the show.
These letters are often considered "fannish" and you run the risk of being
ignored.Be business-like...explain why you're writing and why you think it
will be profitable to have the show back in production. Tell them what kind
of Forever Knight merchandise you have bought, and what you would like to
buy. BUT TELL THEM YOU WANT MORE FOREVER KNIGHT!

From: "B. Stone" <STONEB@g.......>
Subject: "Last Knight"

After reading McLisa's account of the making of "Last Knight", I was
inspired to watch the last scene of "Last Knight" and read the end
of _Romeo and Juliet_ again to 1) imagine how it would have been if
LC stepped into the sun and 2) to figure out exactly what part of
_R & J_ would have been used for the voice-over.

At first, I could not imagine LC losing his grip to the extent of
wanting to put an end to himself. After all, he says "he could never imagine"
how anyone would want to give up the precious gift of life. But then I began
to suspect that these were the words of a person desperate to save the one
friend he had on earth so as not to be left alone. I think he still cannot
quite imagine wanting to give up life until Nick tells him that he is his
"closest friend". That is, I believe, the straw that breaks the camel's
back. For so many years, Nick has run from him, rejecting both him and his
gift of eternal life. To finally hear that Nick forgives all and loves him
as his closest friend at the very moment Nick wordlessly begs to be helped to
leave this world forever, is just too much.

See what a scourge is laid upon your hate
That heaven finds means to kill your joys with love.
-one of the Prince's last speeches from _Romeo & Juliet_

Were these the words chosen for the voice-over? Do any of us know?

Other possibilities include:

A glooming peace this morning with it brings
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head.

which would make it a bit difficult for a vampire as old and powerful as
Lacroix to do himself in, and

Seal up the mouth of outrage for awhile
Till we can clear these ambiguities.

which does not have quite the same impact, although there have been and
surely will be again many times that these two lines would come in handy here,
on our list.<g>

Interesting thought! I tend to feel them as small betrayals myself, because
I think that Nat *should* have been committed to a cure. That's what the
patient wanted and what she'd said she'd try for. OTOH, her first attempt
to get Nick to bring someone across - Richard - was perhaps forgivable
because it shows the audience just how powerful the temptation to
immortality, even for someone as strong-minded as Natalie, would be when
someone she loves is threatened and when she doesn't really realise what it
entails.

But then she keeps slipping up. She asks on her own account when she thinks
the meteor is about to hit the earth; and in fact is so panicked she's
willing to get someone else to do it (doesn't that count as infidelity?)
(as an aside - what makes her think that Spark is going to keep his word? He
didn't look exactly trustworthy to me.) Then there's the time she uses
vampire blood on the boy. Then there's the time she asks him to bring her
across rather than letting her die in LK. She just doesn't have Nick's
commitment to mortality. She doesn't have the experience of immortality
that drives him, of course.

Would Nick experience that as a betrayal, though? I do, because it's not
what I want Natalie to be. To Nick, it would surely mean that he would know
that when it came right down to it, he couldn't be sure he could count on
her. But if he knew this, and accepted it as a normal 'mortal' weakness,
then it wouldn't be a betrayal. It would be a forgivable, if regrettable,
part of her character.

Of course the ideal Natalie would have been a lot more like Joan of Arc.
But the ideal Natalie might not have loved him or worked so hard for him or
been his friend, either.
