If not, would you let me try? We wouldn't need any ring provider, because
there are free cgi-scripts that allow us to make our own webring.

Serena in Baby, Baby.

>2. What do you think the major cause of Ritchie's downfall was?

I think Richard showed evidence of believing he was invincible and things
would go his way *before* he was brought over. His vampirism just
intensified these natural traits.

>3. What do you think will happen when Sarah's hypno-suggestion wears off?
>(He's got a bad track record there, too.)

I don't think it will wear off. I don't think there's huge evidence that Nick
can't hypnotize people just as well as any other vampire. The times we
have seen him fail he's either been weakened by something or is dealing
with a strong willed person.

>4. Why didn't Nick use up some of that sick time and properly take care of
>his new charge?

Probably because he didn't want to be considered the same type of
"father" as LC.

>5. Do you think LaCroix knew about this?

I doubt it. I think LC was off licking his wounds after being staked by Nick.

Ligeia wrote:

Interesting idea, but I'm not sure I agree. Vachon, the Inca, and Urs all
seemed to do okay as vampires without having any particular character
traits that would lead one to suspect that they would survive as vampires.
Urs even wanted to die as a mortal.

Barb wrote:

We don't really know that that's what happened. We know that Nick told
her that he couldn't be responsible for her, but realizing what a mistake he
made in bringing her across, I think his guilt would have been enough that
he would have insisted on giving her at least some basic training (there has
to be *some* reason that Nick would be so jealous and possessive of her
in the present). And Serena was intelligent enough to have taken that much
from him, I think.

As I've said on this list before, I do not recall seeing any evidence that Nick
*bit* the East German police/soldiers. Killed them certainly, but not by a
vampire attack imo. And were there "plenty of others"? I only recall the
female he thought was a spy in Outside the Lines being killed by biting.

I don't have one currently. I don't listen to the radio much anymore.

While I can agree with the first sentence, I can't agree with the rest. (By
your theory, Nick should have taken on some of LC's traits when LC
brought him over.) I think Serena wanted to find mortality again because
she never really wanted to be a vampire in the first place. I think she would
have wanted to be mortal again regardless of which vampire brought her
across.

>Infant vampires need close supervision. Nick wasn't "mature" enough to be a
>master.

I think it's wrong to put all the failure for Richard on Nick too. Infant
vampires do *not* necessarily need close supervision (Vachon and the Inca had
*one* night of training). If Nick was not mature enough to be a master, why
then does LC let him bring over the doctor in the flashback of Fever? And
except for the doctor thinking he was so far above mortals that he couldn't be
stopped, he otherwise seemed to be rational (which would seem to argue
against Nick passing on "confusion" in his blood).

>Nick hadn't wanted to bring him across, and so he was very
>distraught, and those powerful emotions pelted the new convert.

Now this statement I can agree with. However, I don't think that these
feelings would have made Richard go off the deep end. Wouldn't those
feelings have instead led Richard to consider his vampire life as not
worth living and make him want to destroy himself instead?

Hi Portia:

Thanks for your message. Unfortunately, my stories are all in paper draft
form at the moment. (Good news though: I am currently in the process of
transferring the stories from my notebooks into the word processor so that
they can go to the fanfic list. Once they are there, I will probably create
a link on my personal site to them.)

By the way, I just asked this question to our listowner....How does one find
a Beta Reader for stories? Just curious.

Thanks for the thoughts and for writing. Back to that third story now...

Sincerely,

David

Hi back at ya, David!

Just finished reading your apology for posting our msgs to the list. "g"
The good thing about it is that you have effectively begun addressing your
own question!

Basically, you post a msg to this list requesting assistance from
beta-readers. Those with the time and inclination will send you a reply.
If I'm free when you get ready, and you wanna take a chance on me, I'd be
pleased to give your stuff a shot.

Anyone else willing to offer?

Jill, I felt the same way you do. That's why two days after Yahoo took over
I dissolved my webring "Fans of Forever Knight". I was lucky and had only
one bounced e-mail. But just to be on the safe site I thought I'd send a

If anyone is still interested in maintaining the old look of there webring

Subject: Plausible LaCroixs, and Touching Priests

Several topics in one!

Diane wonders about LC & Nick:
>Do we know for sure whether LaCroix actually forced Nick to stay in his
>company at any time? I'm trying to recall a time in canon in which that
>happened, and I'm drawing a blank.

LaCroix comes close in Father's Day -- that reunion in
LA is downright coerced.
But if you mean did we ever see LaCroix lock Nick up, or
physically drag him home with him, then I think not.

>2. Have we ever, onscreen, seen LaCroix injure Nick, and has their
>relationship ever come to blows, before Dark Knight? Again... blank...

Dark Knight, Father's Day, Trophy Girl, and Curioser & Curioser to
name the ones that pop immediatly into my head.
(Note: C&C might be an hallucination on Nick's part,
but one could argue that it proves Nick expects that
sort of treatment from LaCroix.)

>3. We do know that Nick has fled and LaCroix has followed, for
>instance, in Capitol Offense. But in that case, do we know if Nick
>was fleeing from LC, or from someone/something else?

It wasn't stated, IIRC. He was fleeing an angry mob, but where he'd
been before that isn't clear. We only know that Nick had told LaCroix,
at some time previous, that he wanted out. Whether he fled or just
walked out is up for grabs.

>We do know that Nick fled LaCroix in the
>events of Father's Day (at least, if I remember correctly, tell me if
>I'm wrong). Did it ever occur elsewhere in the FK timeline?

Cherry Blossoms, perhaps, when LC comes after Nick at the
acupunturist's shop. It's one of my favorite LC lines, in fact -- Nick
protests that he's left, he doesn't want to associate with LC anymore,
and LC replies, "It's not your choice." The guy's bold, if nothing
else. :-)

>4. Have we ever seen LaCroix do anything cruel to Nick and/or friends
>that was not related to the whole "You should embrace what you
>are!" scenario?

That depends -- it could be argued that almost everything LC
does to Nick relates to that scenario, in some way. :)
But Trophy Girl might count. Tonight's Lesson: don't mooch
food off LaCroix's plate.

Emily then asks:
>Now I have another question: Do priests themselves have any effect on
>vampires? I mean, just by virtue of being a priest?

In FIHS, Nick seemed very reluctant to shake hands with the priest
when they first meet outside the church. Make of that what you will.
It's also interesting that Nick gets so angry, even hostile, with the priest
later at the precinct. Could it be that Nick's discomfort is provoking some
of his harsh response?
Then again, he didn't have trouble touching Marion, an
almost-shaman. Dunno, just speculating here.

Very insightful comments, but I laughed out loud at the one below:

Forever Knight TV show Kit wrote:

"Tonight's Lesson: don't mooch food off LaCroix's plate."

A lesson we all should keep in mind...especially Natalie.... "eg"

Portia (with, for some inexplicable reason, a vision of Nick standing with his
nose pressed in the corner.... "g")

PS. I like Kit's take on why Nick was so excessively angry at the Priest, but
maybe he was also transfering something else -- he's angry at himself for
turning his back on his faith and so directs that anger at a representative of
that faith. It's an idea....
