In a class on Mexican history that I took in Mexico in 1970,
Ramo'n Pin~a Chan, then the director of the Museo de
Antropologi'a showed us some slides of Mayan frescos in
which most of the people looked like Mayans, but one didn't.
The one that didn't had a full beard and looked like he might
have come from southern Europe or the Middle East. This one
figure has lead anthropologists to speculate that somebody
from the Old World managed to sail to Mezo-America well before
Columbus (someone other than a Viking).

So Nick might have used the same route and method of transport
as the guy in the fresco.

Actually, I think he might show up, armour or not.
Radar will pick up just about anything. Birds, even
insects (in swarms) will register.
There was a report a while back from the Fed. Aviation
Administration (which monitors flights in the US) to
the effect that more than once in the past, large
flocks of birds have shut down airports. Too many individual blips show up on
radar and swamp the
tracking systems. ("Hey, Fred, look! There's 30,000 inbounds on runway 22
Right!")
In fact, the claim to fame of the Stealth fighter is
that it has the same radar signature as a single
sparrow. Nick would most likely be a bit larger. <g>

register on radar either. Sombody, pass me the box of Carr's please. <g>

I can remember seeing an episode where Nick had a reflection.
It's been so long I can't remember which one it was, but
I do recall seeing his reflection in a mirror, and it wasn't a flashback.
However, I have a pic of Urs, seemingly in front of a mirror,
and not reflecting. Is it possible that vamps in FK reflect at some times but
not during others?

Since vamps and radar has been mentioned, anyone know if an FK vamp would
show up in an infrared camera? Off hand, I'd say no, cuz they're body temp
is supposedly closer to room temp, but that's just a guess.

I'm pretty sure this was from Father Figure, the ep where Nick has to
'babysit' Lisa, a child witness to a mob hit. Nick's sitting in front
of a mirror while Nat digs a bullet out of his shoulder. He mentions
that he has a reflection - 'sometimes' - and he also winces when Nat
digs for the bullet, which she thinks is a good sign as vampires
shouldn't feel pain.

Nick has a reflection in Father Figure. We see Nat and Nick in a mirror
as she is removing a bullet from his shoulder. IIRC, Nat makes a remark
about being able to see him in the mirror and he answers her that
"Sometimes" he has a reflection.

I'd hazzard a guess that it would depend on how recently they had fed....a
vampire that has eaten recently would have a warmer body temp (which would, of
course, slowly cool down) than one that has not eaten for a while. I'd think
that it would be much harder to see a vamp considering the body temperature
problem you mentioned, but if they have still warm blood coursing through
them, it might warm the body a bit for a while and allow them to show up as a
cooler body in infrared.

Guessing,

I'm not an airline pilot (and I don't even play one on TV <weg>), so I
could be wrong, but a cargo hold without sufficient pressurization and
climate control to sustain a live human or animal would be pretty darn cold
at regular cruising altitudes. What springs to mind is the recent incident
with the dog that was accidentally placed in the wrong cargo compartment of
a jet traveling cross country. The pilot decided to make an emergency
landing in Denver since, if they had waited until their scheduled landing
in California, the poor thing would have frozen to death.

As it was, they weren't sure they'd make it in time to save him, but
fortunately the story had a happy ending.

If Divia had hitched a ride in such a cargo hold, she wouldn't have been
bothered by the cold and the body would have been nicely preserved for the
duration of the trans-Atlantic flight!

And it also gave her enough time to raid the luggage and put together just
the right fashion ensemble for stalking Daddy Dearest. <g>

Nick shows a clear reflection when he's coming up off the stairs in the
episode with the psychic, I think it's Dying to Know You. He also shows a
very clear reflection in Father Figure when Nat is digging a bullet out of
his shoulder.

He does in Curiouser & Curiouser, too, in the loft, though I'm not sure
that could really count, as he was... in an altered state of consciousness.
<g> Lacroix shows up in the reflection as well, though *only* there.

Nick did seem to get shot with some regulatarity at times.
I suspect that Natalie has been digging bullets out of him with
regularity since he joined hte force. It would also make sense that
in the course of her attempts to define his condition medically it
would have come up when he didn't show a reaction to a needle or
some other procedure that she warned him might "hurt a little".

Don't forget photographs -- many cameras use mirrors to reflect the
image through the camera. The pilot, Unreality TV, Forward into the
Past, 1966, Night in Question, Close Call all show photographs of
vampires, not to mention every time Nick flashes his badge!

As a matter of fact, the cast had been told originally that reflections
would be removed in post-production. Then time and money got in the way, and
the reflection showed up some places but not in others. The dialogue in
Father Figure was improvised by Ger and Catherine Disher as an attempt to
make sense of the situation.

I've heard two explanations for why a vampire wouldn't have a reflection. and
for either theory, the FK vampires should show up in a mirror.

The first explanation is that vampires hate silver (it's not just wearwolves),
and that early mirrors had silver backings. Since modern mirrors aren't made
of silver, Nick and company's reflection should show up. And in any case, I
don't think FK vamps were alergic to silver.

The second explanation was based on the old thought that the mirror dosen't
actually show your reflection, but an image of the soul. (this was why people
used to cover mirrors during a wake, because they were afraid that the soul of
the deceased would become trapped) But again, FK made it very clear that Nick
had a soul. (it may not have been in very good condition, but it was there).
So either way, Nick should have been showing up in that mirror.
