According to the transcripts, the partner's name was Czajkowski. He managed
to survive and Nick was offered a citation but insisted that he should really
go through the academy....

Hmm... as close as I can figure the pronunciation, this would be the Polish
equivalent of the Russian Tchaikovsky. IIRC Cz in Polish is a "ch" sound.
Can anybody confirm this?

I think he probably *was* in Chicago, with a few sabaticals, from '64 to
'89. When he and Janette talked during the pilot,

"Wasn't it Chicago before?"
"It was time." (Looking a little uncomfortable/unhappy about it)
(with recognition) "Ah, the Dorian Grey syndrome."

That refers to the story in which Dorian Grey's picture aged but he did not,
and eventually those who knew him caught on to the fact that he didn't.
So apparently Nick had been in Chicago long enough that people were starting
to catch on that he wasn't aging. That many years, there could be some
people who he met halfway through who would believe he was still him, and some
from the sixties who thought he was his own son. What happens when they get
together? And if anyone from the sixties had known him all along, there'd
be no possible excuse they could buy anymore by '89.

The matter is especially complicated if we assume that Nick was involved
in law enforcement throughout this period. Even if he was in different
precincts and popped into the suburban forces occasionally, he'd still
be having run-ins with cops he knew earlier. And cops are the people
most likely to investigate something odd like that!

Anyway, if he was in Chicago until '89, then maybe he slipped down to
Champaign during the '80s when our bar bands were at their peak, or was
around during one of my occasional weekend trips up north to the museums. ;-)

Yup, you're right. I asked my mom, who speaks Polish, and that's what she
said. (my mother has been know to grumble, "Why can't people pronounce
Polish names? You say them exactly as they're written," usually after a
newscaster has slaughtered Lech Walesa's name. Incidentally, that's
pronounced "Fow-wewn-sa.")

Subject: Nick Still Best Angst-Ridden Vampire (Re: A Movie I Just Watched)
         Kinda Long

Greetings Listfamily!

Yes indeed, I am still alvie and kicking <hears a few (maybe more than a few
<g>) people groan...hehe> ......<waves enthusiastically at FK/HL buddies
answering my posts over on the Highlander List>.....

I just watched this movie called "To Sleep With a Vampire." Brain-Freezing
on the actor who played the Vampire (he was Mallory's boyfriend towards the
end of "Family Ties....character in FT's was named **Nick**).

So, I'm watching away---and at first it starts looking like we have a
good-guy, non-human killing, angst-ridden Vampire, and I start to wonder "gee
how much are they going to have 'borrowed' from Forever Knight?" Ala Nick,
Vampire (only Vampire in the film, BTW) winces and backs away before he puts
the bite on someone--then does not follow through. Ala Nick real angsty
facial expression and body language when he is real hungry or distressed in
some way. Ala Nick, suddenly appears vast distances from just a moment ago.
Ala Nick can throw humans through the air as easily as cutting melted butter
with a sharp knife; incredible strength and speed. Ala Nick, able to whammie
someone bugging him in a bar to go away and leave him alone (but does not say
a word, did it with just a look....kinda reminded me of LaCroix there for a
minute <g>). Ala Nick, "floats," when observing something from above ground.
Doesn't really look like he can fly ala Nick, but *almost.* Ala Nick, drives
a cool vehicle <right fast, too!> but it's a Hog, not a car <g>. Most of all,
ala Nick, has an angst-ridden demeanor, but can smile, laugh and be charming
when he wants to, fangs only when vamping out.

Then he (we finally find out his name at the end of the movie---but I won't
tell in case someone wants to watch it; running on Cinemax every so often)
reveals his true nature---he starves himself until he cannot stand it anymore
and takes someone he has "sensed" has given up on life and says he will set
them free. Uh-Huh <smirk>.

Yup, they kinda lost me there. Reasonably decent movie (already taped over
it, not *that* decent) but certainly **not** up to FK standards, IMHO, by a
long shot.

Then we have "Angel." Of course I still love it :::::ducking and running in
case Angel is a sore topic here nowadays::::::, and many moons ago I opined
that he was the winner of the Most-Angst-Ridden-Vampire Contest here on the
List. He is still danged moody all right. But since Buffy is out of the
picture *most* of the time, IMHO, Angel's angst-factor has fallen far below
Nick's.

So, I hereby nominate Detective Nicholas Knight of FK for the all-time-best
and most angsty good-guy Vampire for all Eternity. <g>.

Any news on further FK stuff (movie, etc)? Probably not, but can't hurt to
wonder, and I have been "nomail" here for a long time. (She has? We didn't
notice! <eg>). I ask because the trailer for the Highlander 4 Film "Endgame"
is out in places, and though I am delighted at the prospect of seeing both
"Macs" in a movie, it irks me that **they** made a movie using *their* TV
character Immortal and *we* get no such thing......wahhhhhhhh......I want an
FK reunion movie (me and 1,000 others, eh?).

Also, no VS-4 has dropped into my box.....any news on that front?

Anything exciting <ggg> going on on the FK List here? <asks tentatively
because the last time someone asked that question when I was getting List
Mail, the answer was *ever* so complicated!>.

Let's see now.....speaking of angsty good guys <g> my VCR decided it did not
want to tape the Season/Series Finale of Pretender.........<ala Nick, black
jacket, much angst, out to save the world and find himself, poor, dear Jarod
is, eh? <ok, so it's a stretch, but it works for me> Willing to trade FK
(Season One I have Canadian), FK Boopers, FK Alumni, Highlander, Highlander
Bloopers and other HL shorts, Buffy, Angel (but I don't have Buffy/Angel
tapes exactly labelled since they don't bother to *show the episode titles*
<sheesh!>), etc. or cover tape replacement and mailing costs as
usual......and my dubs are now getting taped as soon as requested, then
mailed to their recipients *the day after* they are finished <g>. Someone on
the HL List got me my one missing ep of Highlander: The Raven <whew>. I'm
trying to find someone who is as silly as me and has "Highlander: The
Animated Series" <hey, quit laughing, I can hear you {g}> (approx 40 total
1/2 hour each eps in all and I only got about half of them before they
stopped showing it.....). Any Highlander fans here with it? <Hears a bunch
of people go *****as if***** <LOL>.....same offer as for Pretender Finale.

I hope all is well with the Listfamily here! I have missed you guys. Hope
work and such don't necessitate "nomail" for me again, for a *long*
time.....even when I lurk I like being amongst you all!, that's for sure!

Forever Yours,
Billie-Lee

Ky.

I was there from the beginning when it started at 9:00 pm. There was only
one FK question that was chosen. That question happened to be mine. I
asked that since there was such a strong interest in vampires series, and
since FK had such a wide audience, then why wasn't Forever Knight being put
back on the air? Bonnie Hammer answered that the Scifi channel had received
the series after the creative team had already disbanded, but that there was
going to be a new vampire series on this summer called Ultraviolet. That
was it! That was the only mention of FK during the entire hour and twenty
minutes. I tried to respond to Bonnie Hammer's remark on FK, but it is
really not a chat, it is a question and answer period with a moderator who
limits what is presented.

Anyway, most of the time there were between 250-260 scifi fans waiting to
ask questions about there favorite series. I recognized about a dozen other
FK fans at the chat, but I'm not sure how many were actually there. At the
end, the moderator said that a transcript of the chat would be available at
www.sci.com/transcripts in a couple of days if anyone is interested. I hope
I was able to answer your questions Kylie.

By the way, a scifi fan asked how beneficial writing campaigns are, and
Bonnie Hammer said something to the effect that the letters really do not
help, but it is nice to know what the fans think.

Someone (forget who) asked me about it a long time ago and I said something
like "I *think* so." Well....now I know so.

Surely a vital piece of information for us all here in FK'dom....no?

Yeah, right. Hey, lack of sleep promotes silliness (no worries, just

Letters DO help. I have studied broadcasting to a small extent and one thing the
professor did cover was being receptive to the fans. I'm sure Ms. Hammer meant
no disrepect, but this comment comes across to me as, "We don't care what the
fans think."

Excuse me, but without the fans and what we think, there'd be NO Sci Fi channel.
Talk about a public relations blunder.

There's NUMEROUS shows that have been saved through the action of fans. STAR
TREK pops to mind immediately, and there's scores of more modern shows too.

Well, Ms. Hammer has gotten me slightly miffed (not mad, just miffed) and when I
get miffed, I move into action. Where's my paper??? Where's the printer???
Where's my stamps???

FK on-line fans love to play in on-line roleplaying "Wars." Well, this fan is
going off line and taking her "war" to paper in the way of polite, intelligent
letters to Ms. Hammer and the others on our Kickstart the Knight list of
addresses!

Could someone post the KtK addresses again? That way I can don my battle gear
this weekend!

what is it with "Maru" and spaceships?

I'm referring back to Star Trek, and the "Kobiashi Maru" scenario at Starfleet
where Kirk apparently came up with a... unique... solution to an unsolveable
problem.

Maybe this is just an honorary nod to the Grandaddy of sci-fi TV series.

And to keep it on topic... how can I tie FK and Star Trek together? Bill
Shatner to GWD - here goes:

Bill Shatner played Capt. Kirk in Star Trek.
Star Trek was created by Gene Roddenberry
who also wrote Earth: Final Conflict.
E:FC starred our own FK alum Lisa Howard
who starred in the Fk episode "Spin Doctor"
Fk of course starred GWD.

I'm working on a shorter link... there must be one.

Yuppers.......it was GWD's "bad" personality that Duncan killed (but he sure
didn't want to) when GWD's "good" personality was able to break out and beg
Duncan to put him out of his misery now that he (GWD's good personality
"Michael") knew what had been happening all along. (Yet another of
probably-legendary-from-my- past/long-ago-posts Brain Freezes on "bad
personality's" name <argh> and <LOL>).

Interesting parallel? The *only* way to kill an HL Immortal is to cut off
their head. Is it not true in FK Canon (as well as *most* Vampire Canon)
that beheading is a means of doing away with an FK Vampire? I could be
wrong.....wouldn't be the first time, that's for certain!

I always wanted to see an FK/HL television crossover. I've heard rumors both
ways (they were going to do it, no they weren't, and Nigel Bennet *was*
(reportedly) slated to play an HL Immortal named "Terence Coventry......,"
wow, Imagine Uncle and that *voice* as the "other" kind of immortal <weg>.

But, if Nick and Duncan were in a crossover episode, I wouldn't want either
of my heroes to lose..........(GWD as an HL Immortal doesn't count, he wasn't
Nick <g>). How would an HL Immortal with Duncan's pretty stringent "Kill
only the bad guys even if *There Can Be Only One,*" (that is of course, only
from my POV) respond to a Vampire, albeit a good one? They'd both have to be
on the same side for it to work for me :>)

Thanks, Emily.........and to off-list folks even though I've answered them

As I remember, Maru is Japanese for ship.
It is commonly part of a ship's name.

Sort of like how most ships with a US registration are U.S.S.

If you are basing your ship's name on an existing Japanese
vessel, you would copy the name perfectly. This also explains why
it is the U.S.S. Enterprise in StarTrek instead of FS (Federation
Ship or some such nonsense).

It's day 12 of the Feedback Blitz!! Go ahead and e-mail the two powers that

1. Sci-fi: feedback@w.......

2. Tristar/Sony: http://www.spe.sony.com/spe/help_feedback_index.html

..................................................
Forget what the blitz is about? Read below:

It looks like these blitzes we have been doing are getting some attention!
So we at KtK, are going to turn them into a monthly routine. This month we
are focusing on the two main powers, Tristar and Sci-fi.

Its going to be a double dose of e-mails from each of you the fans that
would love to not only have FK back on Sci-fi's schedule, but want to make
sure everyone knows that we are want more FK with the original cast in new
episodes and or movies!! So, what do you say? Are you ready to sit down,
take that few minutes and send off two e-mails? It could make all the
difference in the world!

Remember, say a little or say a lot, but say it!! We can make more FK
happen!!!

June 12th, through June 24th, we are asking everyone to blitz both
feedbacks!!! For the two weeks, you can re-use the e-mails you did before,
or write new ones. They can be long, or as short as just saying, "Bring Back
Forever Knight."

ALSO REMEMBER!! Sci-fi will be changing its schedule around in June, and
again in the fall.... lets make sure that we get Forever Knight on!!!

Sci-Fi's E-mail: feedback@w.......

Sony/Tristar Mail Form: http://www.spe.sony.com/spe/help_feedback_index.html

When e-mailing TriStar,(especially) give as much personal info as you
can...rather than just an e-mail name. A bit more personal carries more
