Subject: Knight without the Crawler Kyer opined: >If LaCroix...(how do you treat the 'c' in his name anyway? Or even from one of Nat's >'cures'---especially if the other vampires found out and took offense. Uh-oh, m'brain is stuck. When would Nick have died in season one by an enemy's or Enforcer's hand? I do remember that he faced down a few Enforcers in UTV, but he seemed to come through that on his own. LaCroix (seen spelled with capital "C" in the scripts, so I've always assumed that's correct), being "dead" at the time, didn't seem to affect that outcome. In fact, since LC tends to get Nick into trouble more often than he gets him out of it, Nick might have been safer, relatively speaking. <G> But it's still a Good Thing <tm>, I think, that LC returned in season two. More drama, doncha know. And besides, I notice that PBS is running a special on the theory of the dark ages being caused by a natural catastrophe -- an idea I've read about in the past with great interest. Wouldn't it be nice to have LC around and be able to ask if such a thing were actually true? So, what else would you ask LC -- or Nick or Janette, for that matter -- if you had the chance? Sure, old Smuggier Than Thou caused a heap of trouble (and I may never forgive him for beating up Nick let alone that Raliegh incident), but just the fact that LC is Nick's master must have deterred a lot of hostile vampires from Nick's solitary path. I'm sure there are vampire bullies just as there are mortal ones who like to prey on the weak and isolated. And drinking cow's blood was considered a weakness. Nick survived his two encounters with the Enforcers by first LaCroix's smooth talking and second by the destruction of the video tapes and whammying the idiot woman. ( I ferget her name--who was that idiot woman o' the week?) In both instances, it kinda looked like a near thing. Fang and Curly sure looked eager to try out their choppers on our boy. Capital or lower >>case?) In the scripts I have copies of, the 'c' is lower case when he is being spoken of or to. When the name is used to indicate he is speaking, it is all capitals. And it seems to be spelled with upper and lower pretty evenly in other situations, so one doesn't seem to be "more correct," at least not at this point. Depending on when Lucius adopted the name Lacroix, what with the evolution of modern handwriting from Roman lettering, it's possible he first started writing it with *all* capitals. Personally, as a lazy fanfic writer, I prefer not having to use two fingers to produce a capital 'c' in the middle of his name. <g> >>...had been offed by Nick, then Nick would also have died, if not by >>the hand of an enemy, then by the Enforcers. When would Nick have died in season one by an >enemy's or Enforcer's hand? Season one? Clearly there were no "on-screen" rescues in modern day Toronto. That Crawler guy had apparently crawled off to lick his extensive wounds. <g> However, there's always this back of the brain nagging question of what's keeping the Enforcers off Nick's back while he engages so intimately with the mortal world. In Night in Question, we see quite clearly the vulnerability of a vampire trying to "pass" as a mortal. Suppose Nat and Lacroix hadn't been there to bail him out at the hospital? That could have gone quite awry. And it's no secret in the vamp community (as per Unreality TV) that he's working as a cop. They may not know he's seeking a cure (then again, they might), but there has to be a consciousness that he's putting the secret of their existence at risk of exposure with his actions. Why do the let him do that? I can't believe it's out of a spirit of "Live and let live." <g> Some behind the scenes string pulling? And who's going to have the wherewithal to do that? Not the Knight, I don't think. Looks like that Crawler guy crawls back into the picture. <g> <snip> >In fact, since LC tends to get Nick into trouble >more often than he gets him out of it, Nick might have been safer, >relatively speaking. <G> Well, as Janette asserts, Lacroix was never one to allow his life to become boring. I suppose he feels it his duty to keep Nick's interesting as well. <g> <snip> >Wouldn't it be nice to have LC around and be able to ask if such a >thing were actually true? >So, what else would you ask LC -- or Nick or Janette, for that matter -- if >you had the chance? Good grief, I don't think I could think of just one question. I'm a pint lower than I was a few hours ago, but got a great t-shirt in return. It's black, with big red letters that say, got blood? and then of course in little white letters is says, "baxter blood drive, 2000" I managed to fill my bag in 6 minutes... :-) (the average is 10+ min for most people) I'd be a vampire's dream! BTW - any of you that can donate blood, GET OUT THERE AND DO IT!!!! You never know WHO might need that blood! You could be helping a friend, a relative, or some wayward vampire. <g> And something a lot of you might not be aware of is Platelet donations. Platelet donations take about 2 hours, and what happens is that your blood is run through an apherisis machine, where the platelets are filtered out and saved and the rest of your blood is returned to you. It's totally safe and sterile, and I've heard that most centers have it set up so that you can watch a movie, etc. while you wait. (Or, you can sleep if you want...) The platelets are then used to help patients suffering from cancer, leukemia, anemia, and other diseases, as well as assisting in blood clotting after surgery. Ask your local blood bank for more information. You can donate both platelets and whole blood if you're healthy. There's also Plasma donations, which works similar to Platelet donation. Again, ask your local blood bank for more details. Sorry McLisa... I only meant to tell about the neat shirt, but couldn't resist a push for everyone to donate if they can! -Carla copper6500@y.......
