Looking for beta-reader ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sat, 6 May 2000 18:32:15 -0700 From: Teresita Tazon <teresitatazon@n.......> Subject: Defense against viruses, worms, etc. Posted with McLisa's kind permission. Dear Fellow List Members, I'm delurking for a moment to offer a bit of help. Like you probably have, I received many warnings from well meaning people regarding the VBSLove Letter worm and all of its variants. Most emails I got just said to be careful, but said nothing about how to do that. Only two gave me some advice, and neither of these letters covered 'all the bases' so to speak.. That made me think that there might be other people besides me who appreciated being warned, but weren't told what steps to take to protect their computers. (My very non-techie sister comes to mind.<g>) To remedy this, I wrote a letter to family, friends, and a few other lists detailing what they can do to help prevent being infected by the latest bug to hit town. I have URLs for free trial versions of big name antivirus software, info about protecting your email program, and a URL that is especially important to IRC (Internet Relay Chat) Users about how not to pick up the bug through there. If this is something you would be interested in, let me know. Please drop me a line at teresitatazon@n....... . I'll be out this evening (Saturday, May 06, 2000), so I'll start answering requests first thing in the morning. Btw, I'm on the West Coast (USA), so 'first thing' may seem a bit late to some of you. <BVG> Yours in FK, Teresita Tazon teresitatazon@n....... Yes, but I find appealing the explanation that various writers have given that "LaCroix" is related to the fact that he had a predeliction for employing that means of "correction." BWA HA Ha ha!
