"Sonnet For Nicholas" for the historical poems category. It's a work that's
very dear to my heart. I think it's the one of which I'm most proud. It

Actually, the explanation that I remember was that mirrors were a reflection
of the soul. Which is why all mirrors are covered at a wake, so that the soul
of the deceased couldn't be trapped in a mirror. So the reason that a vampire
had no reflection was that he had no soul.

Now in Forever Knight, all the vampires had a reflection, so i guess that they
all had souls. Which, come to think of it wasn't the problem. Nick was never
convinced that he had no soul. He was just convinced that his soul was
damned.

Just came from a Slayer site where the owner stated that her Transcript

Wow.

All I can say about the fan fiction nominations is WOW! I am still floating
on cloud nine. 1999 was my first attempts at writing fan fiction, and
everything that I posted was nominated and three actually made it to the
final ballot. Thank you all so much for thinking of my words and for
putting "Hope," "The Path Not Taken," and "You Could Have Said I Love You
Just Once" on the final ballot. Thanks to all for helping me to enjoy
writing for "Forever Knight" that much more!

From: FK Awards <fkawards@f.......>
Subject: AWARDS: Just for clarification...

As a number of people have been posting thank-you's etc. about
their nominations, etc. in the 1999 FK Fan Fiction Awards...

A brief status update:

Due to Real Life as well as giving a few authors extra time to
respond to notifications about their story nominations, I extended
the Awards schedule (Nominations period) by an additional week
and a half.

Thus, the rest of the Awards schedule dates have also been
extended. The results of the Nominations (and the Final Ballot)
will be announced, tentatively, by this Friday, March 31. The
revised schedule can be found in the Awards FAQ on the website.

All authors with works making the first round of nominations
have been notified, and most of them verified their nomination
information. There is no guarantee, unfortunately, that all of
these stories will make the final ballot.

(For full details on how the Awards process works, including
nominations, how the Final Ballot is created, etc., please
read the Awards FAQ at:
http://www.fkfanfic.com/awards/awardsfaq.htm )

At this point, Tuesday, March 28, all authors with stories,
poems, or filk making the final ballot have been notified
and most of them have already verified their information.
If you haven't been notified that your story(ies) made the
final ballot, unfortunately, your story(ies) haven't made
the Final Ballot. (btw, the competition was fierce and
close in many of the categories)

The Final Ballot has not been announced yet, nor does
any one know any more about those items making the
final ballot besides those authors with stories being
selected for the final ballot, and then, they only know
about their own items, not anyone else's.

By Friday, I hope to be able to announce the Final Ballots.
At that time, I will also be listing all of the stories that were
nominated, but did not make the final ballot, on the Awards
website.

If you have any questions on the Awards process, please
look for answers on the Awards FAQ, and/or contact me.

Thank you, everyone, both readers and authors, for your
support, patience and enthusiasm for the Awards. And
stay tuned for the announcement of the Final Ballot and
the Nominations listing pages.

Thanks,
Mel

First off, I want to thank everyone who nominated my fics for the fkfic
awards! This is the first year I'm going to be on the ballot and I'm
just so thrilled you wouldn't believe it :)

Second, I just finished revamping (excuse me an amused chuckle ;-) the

Oh, I know the legend reason why. It just never made much sense
*if* the vampire is supposed to be a corpse (that's why I had
corpse in quotes). A corpse is a very substantial item. Soul
or not, it should reflect in a mirror.

Now if the corpse is really a spiritual or more insubstantial
form, which would more likely be the case if the vampire could
shape change, then maybe the legendary reason for no reflection
has more merit since spiritual beings might not have any sort
of reflection.

To bring this back to FK, all the indications there are that
FK vampires are very real and solid. So imo it makes sense
for them to have reflections.

Following in the list vein...a very big "thank you" to those who nominated my

consider my existing work highly enough to nominate it bolsters my resolve to

But if I remember, and I think was brought up in other posts... they DID
have reflections... Am I just really misremembering. I could be. Im tired,

In case people are still having trouble viewing Nancy's nifty video of Nick
filling his wine bottles, I just wanted to mention that it works perfectly
for me. The viewer I am using is Windows Media Player, and I believe it is
version 6.4. It is probably the version that shipped with the newer version
of Win 98, or possibly a version that would've come from
www.windowsupdate.com (Microsoft's site for free updates to Windows etc.).
It's a very interesting and unusual clip, and I would highly recommend that
folks set their movie player to Windows Media Player at least long enough to
check it out.

My memory may be off, but I think something like this was mentioned in
"Stranger Than Fiction" by Nat. That's how she knew the vampire-wanna-be
wasn't really a vampire--because there wasn't two types of blood around the
bite wound. Or was that because there was? Sounds like a good excuse to
rewatch the episode!

Write for the Knight! (this section is for snail mail writers! (VERY

Letís redouble our efforts and really let "The Powers That Be" know that we

where you live, how long you've been watching Forever Knight and how much
you'd like to see it back on TV. Do not, however, put anything on the
envelope that might indicate you are a FK fan or are writing about the show.
These letters are often considered "fannish" and you run the risk of being
ignored.Be business-like...explain why you're writing and why you think it
will be profitable to have the show back in production. Tell them what kind
of Forever Knight merchandise you have bought, and what you would like to

I just found out that Nigel is going to be on the interview show Bynon this

believe is supposed to open in theatres here this weekend.

Bynon is shown on Prime at 6 p.m. and again at 3 a.m., and repeated on Global
at 2 p.m. the following day (in other words, Thursday). All times Eastern
Standard Time. The show is an hour long.

Nigel may not be the only guest, so he may only be on half the show. Still,
half an hour of Nigel can be pretty entertaining <g>.

Subject: Top of the Food Chain in Sci Fi Magazine

I got Sci Fi Magazine in the mail today. There's a great article on Top of
the Food Chain in it. I do have one little quibble with it, though. The
article includes interviews that were done *on the set*. This movie was
filmed in the summer of 1998, but is just hitting theaters now, yet the
article implies that the story is very recent. Oh well.

They're very high on it anyway. :-)
